Joining the Room Builders Group was one of the best things I ever did, I got so incredibly much inspiration from there, and tons of new tips and tricks. And maybe I was even able to inspire someone else with my builds 😄

I don't think the Mos Espa Vespa Cyber Punks deserved that much effort 🤣 Good video as always and a solid reminder/introduction on how you can tell what feels like Star Wars and what doesn't. Everyone is a bit different, but certain things just scream Star Wars.

There have been scant few singular movies that have inspired and entrapped the imaginations of so many people. Since watching the original movie seven times in the theater (first time with friends, the next six times by myself so no one would disturb my concentration) I have continued to be awed by life's imitation of art. There is hardly a media of daily monotonous life that has not been touched by Star Wars. Clothing and fashion, toys and games, other movies, furnishings, building designs, peoples hobbies, vocabulary! If you look closely you can see the influences, the inspiration, those subtle hints in everyday objects that someone, somewhere recalls a some thing they once saw...a long time ago, in a movie theater far, far away.

Very cool inspiration. I need to document what's in my head and my own vision before I get a case of "inspiration contamination" and lose sight of personalization. There's a lot of great work that I never knew existed!

This is the best video on your channel. It's like the keys or code to enter the first door of the journey. The Star Wars art styles in particular are visually overwhelming. So, it's nice to have someone point out the design elements that are doing the trick the most. Also appreciate you pointing out other artists, so we can all find more inspiration and instruction. My biggest struggle is with all the lighting. Wiring an entire room safely, and knowing how to code something is way over my head. Junk, foam, and paint are one thing, but actual electronics are another. I feel like I would almost have to become an electrician to understand what I'm doing.

I’m always inspired by your work. That’s why I miss it so much when there is nothing new to show. I’m thinking someone is busy on a larger project?😉 Everything you’ve said is so correct. You can replicate a Star Wars theme, but without the details, it’s just a facsimile of the real thing. And if you add the details, the possibilities are endless as to what you can do, even down to modifying a bench to fit your room. One of the key elements that you didn’t touch on was lighting. To get a real feel of the Star Wars universe, you have to create the proper lighting. From the clean bright halls of an imperial ship, to the darker ambience of the Millennium Falcon. I’m so happy to see another video from you! Keep ‘em coming!

I just started watching the series Light and Magic about how the whole Star Wars universe began with new and vintage interviews with the people that literally created it. During one of the close ups of the Millennium Falcon I could spot parts from Tamiya model kits. They showed stacks of kits that I built as a kid back then. The Star Wars aesthetic has so many layers and came from so many different origins you can fall down a rabbit hole so easily and never see everything that has been or can be done.

Nice video Brian as always. I would be interested in your method of creating the graphic layout for a control panel before you run it through the laser cutter. Even if it's 10 minutes of you drawing and rearranging shapes on the computer screen I would love to hear your musings and reasonings why this circle looks better over here and why this square looks better over there. I don't know how you do it but each of your panels always look in universe and recognisable as Star Wars and totally fantastic :-D

GREAT vid BRIAN a fellow soul who appreciates design. Can I recommend get the book the 2001 theLost Science-the scientists influence and design . In it you will find designs by Harry Lange for the control panels of the ships. If they look familiar its because Harry also designed the panels for the original trilogy. Lucas was impressed by this and hired Mr Lange for Star Wars. On top of that its got great spaceship designs in it. As a fellow GEEK I'm sure you would enjoy it.

@@TheSmugglersRoom I found reference to Caf or Caffa dispensers used in star ships to help the captains and pilots stay sharp, but only found one image related from a comic book. It was basically a coffee cup and coffee pot. I imagine that would give free reign to imagine any number of designs. From wall inset dispenser to a countertop machine, or maybe even something that would be brought by a droid. Although this seems like a minor thing to dedicate a whole droid to. Maybe not on a luxury cruiser, but even then.......

Wow, this is so helpful and gives me some direction to go. I'm a newbie at making sci fi stuff with no fancy equipment and limited funds. I really like making stuff, I have graphic design, art skils and carpentry. Alas I have zero ideas how to do any of this. For example, I'm trying to make a control panel to frame my computer monitor. I have this big piece of styrofoam used for shipping with lots of interesting surfaces but how do I make it look less-you know- like styrofoam? I'm starting to gather greeblies etc. but it's all taking so long.

So Excellent !! Love the sage info you are imparting and the people you highlighted (I follow them all) that have definitely earned their Star Wars achievement badge and beyond Where do you get you concept art books? Is this a Amazon visit? Or are these the kind of limited editions sold only on a nuanced geek web page, where you know if you know? Lastly, I’m thankful for you outtakes. Most often KZbinrs stay strict to the face in screen or cutaway shots. But I like your film style…and it’s often the outtakes (that yes,…are funny), that I learn the most. It shows maybe how you filmed it, did voice over, memorized lines or ran an audible,…where you put your lights or a more comprehensive look at your space so I can see how you set up for more than just framing yourself and your backdrop Wow that went long…but I’m always a believer of critical feedback and thoughtful appreciation. So I just wanted to say thank you

Since one year I practice "Jedi's fance " in a club of the French fance federation and now I need a jedi inspired outfit for my first challenges . I have yet pantalon (?), boots and a black T-shirt to do the first layer of the torso costume . But the two layers kimono and the cape are missing . So, I want to know if Carissa had put patterns of this pieces of costume on line or if I must buy them somewhere ! By the way the mandalorien costumes that Carissa had made for the Starwars celebrations days are very beautyfull ! I am an old woman ( 65 years old ) so I want wear an helmet and I think used the Props maker academy advices to do it but for the costume, the Carissa councils seems the better I can find on a KZbin channels so I allow me to do such asking ! 100%. They created a visual language that tells us if it's in the Star Wars universe. I encourage anyone who can, to go to Disney's Galaxy's Edge. It's a bit surreal as, for the first time in your life, you feel like you're IN what was previously a 2D experience, separated by whatever distance -distractions and stuff - between your eyes and a screen.

We have both a Glowforge Pro and an OMTech laser cutter. The Glowforge is a fairly small but very easy to use unit. It has a working area of roughly 19.5 x11", the OMTech is nearly 30" wide by 24" tall.

Sorry if this has been asked, what would be the top 3 books you would recommend as Star Wars references for us getting into building SW stuff? Thanks!

Amen, unfortunately current Disney executives and imagineers are egotistical, cheapskates and creatively bankrupt. The result cheap boring crap that they insist is what you want at prices little can afford.

@@spike1670 oh definitely, and to add that most Star Wars fans can do a better job of continuing the legacy of Lucas than these talentless hacks that use Star Wars to push their social ideology and have no understanding of the history and lore or even the physics of the Star Wars universe. They change whatever they want to shoehorn their particular needs in a moment of a Tv show or movie. It’s about their narrative and not about the Star Wars universe. It’s just another IP to exploit. Lucas and his ideas mean nothing to them.

@@TheSmugglersRoom neat! i did find a square roomba that appears to mop, so maybe an xl mouse droid could be possible but more as a type of box over it..

Star Wars has a visual aesthetic that I think is pretty unique in the world of sci-fi. A lot of sci-fi feels kind of generic, and too darn squeaky clean to feel realistic (case in point: a lot of Star Trek, and I love Star Trek as much as Star Wars)
