Secrets and Scandals of The Good Life The Good Life (1975 TV Series): A British Sitcom Classic "The Good Life," also known as "Good Neighbors" in the United States, is a British sitcom produced by BBC television. Airing from 1975 to 1978, the show was created by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey. It stars Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal, Penelope Keith, and Paul Eddington. Background The story follows Tom Good, who, on his 40th birthday, decides to leave his job as a plastics designer and pursue a self-sufficient lifestyle with his wife, Barbara, in their suburban home in Surbiton. The series explores their efforts to live independently, generating their own electricity, growing their own food, and raising animals, which brings them into comedic conflict with their conventional neighbors, Jerry and Margo Leadbetter. Cast and Characters Tom Good (Richard Briers): The protagonist who initiates the self-sufficiency lifestyle. Barbara Good (Felicity Kendal): Tom’s supportive and resourceful wife. Margo Leadbetter (Penelope Keith): The Goods’ snobbish but well-meaning neighbor. Jerry Leadbetter (Paul Eddington): Margo’s husband and Tom’s old colleague, who is skeptical of the Goods’ new lifestyle. Production Outdoor scenes were filmed in Northwood, London, although the series is set in Surbiton. Interior scenes were filmed at BBC Television Centre. The show's theme music was composed by Burt Rhodes. Popularity and Legacy "The Good Life" was highly popular, coming 9th in Britain's Best Sitcom poll in 2004. It has influenced various media and inspired adaptations and mockumentaries. The show continues to be celebrated for its humor and the timeless appeal of its characters. #TheGoodLife, #GoodNeighbors, #BritishSitcom, #RichardBriers, #FelicityKendal, #ClassicTV, #SelfSufficiency, #bbccomedy

Yes, The idea that Felicity Kendall was given 'rough' clothes and made to look a mess was not a negative. It just increased her attractiveness. She was, an extremely attractive woman. She would have looked good in a bin bag. Then there is the scene where she's in bed in a flimsy nightie with the light oh so accidentally illuminating her just right. They knew exactly what they were doing with her.

G'day Alan, Well, not too many real, "Secrets and Scandals"; but a generally entertaining program, the 'over-the-top' narrator notwithstanding. Well cast central characters and solid scripts were the true highlights; and cleverly the producers, et al, knew when enough was enough. Like, 'Fawlty Towers'; a finite 'lifespan' seems to ensure fond memory longevity. The other programs in this series are not as well known to me. Anyway, thanks again, except although every male in this video agreed that FK had the 'best bum in the business' we never got a 'parting glance' at it for old time's sake. Pity. Cheers, Bill H.

The Good Life (or here in America, Good Neighbors) was and still is at the top of all-time favorite British Comedies for us. Sunday nights we were treated to their adventures on our local Public Broadcasting Station KERA-TV Dallas/Fort Worth and they, along with Fawlty Towers, Open All Hours, 'Allo, 'Allo and the inimitable Monty Python gave us our proper education on how to do Comedy in its most excellent form. The Royal Command Good Life was given the cover of Radio Times. It was definitely billed at a certain time. The implication they "cut the World Cup match" especially to show The Good Life isnt true. Not least because ITV were showing the match! The BBC had arranged for the Royal Command show to go out on a Saturday night. They "cut" the World Cup in so much as they decided not to show that game allowing ITV to do so. Of course it sounds more dramatic the way it was told in the show, which had to live up to its rather spurious title!

Which why it has been so poorly handled since the Referendum......The Democracy of Westminster is NOT working. And has not done so for far too many years. Any more proof needed? France and Germany are also trying to figure out a way to solve the current EU crisis....which is dragging them both down. The two main remaining players. And both countries are being deluged with uncontrolled illegal immigration (Stop it with the "Asylum Seekers " nonsense..) Which in the UK was instigated under Blair & Labour. Now check out Sweden and Ireland.....both countries known for their laid-back attitude to world affairs...... All looking mighty grim. All thanks to the EU & their misguided policies. Remember too...how the EU ORDERED Eire to have another referendum when they Democratically rejected the "Lisbon Treaty"? Now look at the problems in Eire...... Some folk need to demand a stop to the Pendulum Politics of the UK: Because it has cost the country, financially & socially since 1945. It has to stop.

Couldn't stand it. Or understand it. Too south England for me. Dull as dishwater. The irony was that I eventually went out with a girl from Surbiton. It was just like the series. I left the country.
