This video is so helpful! How thick is the icing you use for lines? Also what consistency do you use for lettering? Thanks!!!

@@jomen1229 Yay! Glad it helped! I usually use the same consistency for outline, flood and lettering. I call it my “in-betweener consistency” - a little thicker than flood consistency, a little thinner than piping consistency. If you count, it’s probably around 25-30 seconds. Sometimes it might need a tiny jiggle to settle.

And this depends on the consistency of the icing? To be able to pull the icing?

Consistency is important, but I would do that technique with any consistency. It just changes how hard you squeeze, how big the hole in the bag is, and how fast you move the bag along.

What consistency icing are you using as I find I always get a small blob if icing when I begin and then a straight line. I see many cookiers have this problem. What causes that? Is the icing too loose?

So it has nothing to do with consistency but pressure?

It could be either. If the icing is too thin, it could come out too fast. It’s also a matter of not squeezing hard and not staying there at the beginning once you touch down. Get up and go as soon as it anchors to the cookie. Also, make sure to start with a clean tip. Pinch off the end of the bag so you don’t start with a glob that has already come out of the bag.
