I started buying art from the thrift store a month ago after finding a Jane Wooster Scott print and soon after that found 6 more prints / paintings worth $1000 each. You couldn't be more right that people don't know what they are giving away and they just don't care. Two weeks ago I found your KZbin channel and have been absolutely obsessed! You are an amazing wealth of knowledge and every video impresses me. I can absolutely see a show on the history channel of just you appraising items instead of just being part of the show, you are absolutely fantastic!! Thank you so much for sharing the tips and information and I think you're the only person telling people they're giving away expensive fine art for free. Hope you come to Chicago one day I would love to go! Sorry for the essay but I really can't express how happy your videos make me!!!

Very wonderful point about what will sell to the millennials. I wouldn’t have thought about the fact that if they grew up in an era where they were unfamiliar with certain artists, cultures, customs, etc. then they will most likely not pass the knowledge of those artists and customs down to their children. Very interesting point Dr. Lori.
@FlyingRaven4 жыл бұрын
Dr. Lori has taught me so much about art, culture, jewelry etc. I love to learn from her, & she is the best. I went to see her at this event with my Rembrandt. I just turned 31 in August and "I" do not consider myself a millennial. However I think most ppl would consider me one due to my age? I know who Frank Sinatra is, I agree with you on how art, culture, history etc. Isn't being passed down unfortunately. I do see it a lot with friends if my age as well. But I was fortunate enough that my family taught me a lot more than most as far as art, culture, etc. I teach myself a lot from home and learn things online. If it were not for doctor Lori I would not know who Rembrandt was.
@FlyingRaven4 жыл бұрын
I have a 2 year old daughter and I will certainly pass down much knowledge to her. I think it's really great that we could learn new things everyday and we have the world at our fingertips with the Internet. I think what will sell to millennials is what touches their hearts. But that's just me speaking lol. A lot of millennials have very different taste than I do.

That last print is hideous! I wouldn't give a buck for that. I always wonder why anyone makes mass-produced prints of ugly paintings! Probably just me and my bad taste, but looking at that would depress me. I was a graphic artist in the 80s and 90s and used to create camera ready art with pen and ink for logos and posters we printed at the printing company I worked at. I recognized the Sinatra one as production art immediately, the size would be ideal for a record album. I loved doing that work, but when it went all digital, it wasn't fun anymore so I switched to custom tailoring. Location makes a difference in price, too. I live near Palm Springs, where Sinatra and all things Rat Pack are king! I'm sure a local gallery would get a nice chunk of change for that piece, maybe from whomever lives in one of Frank's homes now. When Sinatra died, much of his items were sold, but lots went to the Angel View Thrift Store that earns and distributes money for disabled children (wonderful charity!). An ex-neighbor bought a big sack full of men's ties there, $5 for the whole bag. They were cool silk ties from 50s and 60's and high end, so she got a good deal. Then she noticed each had a fabric tag for the dry cleaners that had the owner's name... F. Sinatra! Then it became a GREAT deal! She went back to Angel View to ask if these could really be from his estate, and indeed they were because they also had furniture and other clothes from his estate. I don't know if she picked up any other fun things, but good for her! I love hearing about people finding treasures like that.
