What is the best size of dome brush should I use for 3/4" to 1" letters? And also for large stencils on the hardcover of a book?

Hi there! We typically always use the 5/8" dome brush. If you are painting a lot of different colors or stencils with a lot of details and different colors, the smaller brushes can come in handy.

What type of paint do you use? Can you use chalk paint?

We use acrylic paint. We know several stencilers use chalk paint. We do not have much experience with chalk paint.

Great tutorial, can you please tell me what to do with a piece of pre-painted wood before I start stenciling? If the wood has no paint, can you tell me what to base paint the wood with? I purchased a board that was somewhat painted the paint started smudging and coming off when I started to stencil. Brand new to this wonderful technique, just need a little help. Thanks again.

Hey Chris! Anytime you have a surface that's top coat is unknown, sand if possible and distress whatever the surface is. You could seal it with a multipurpose sealer, which is on our website, and then paint over that.
