Hi! I am Kathy from Utah, USA. I found your vlog the other day while searching for bag tutorials. I have listened to all 14 of the podcasts as well as several of your tutorials. I love your ideas, and especially love your yarn heaven! I also love your chickens. Mama chicken is teaching her babies to eat when she scratches. Chickens need sand in their craws to grind up their food. The chicks can’t scratch through the grass so mama does it for them.

Hi Kathy!! So nice to meet you! And you know about CHICKENS! Do you have chickens? I have never had chickens in my life. ha ha ha! What sort of bag did you make? Or do you want to make? I'm working on a shopping tote now, and want to make this super cool purse style one - once I get a chance and the picture turned into a pattern! Chat soon, Christa. xx!

I just moved so I don’t currently have chickens, but I have had them, and I love them. People don’t realize how sweet chickens are. The added bonus is the eggs! I crocheted an 11 x 11 granny square bag about a month ago, and I love it so much that I want to crochet more bags. That is how I found your site - I was looking for the alligator stitch one. I got sidetracked though and am starting the Moroccan bag instead.

Hi again :) I am still on the mission and watching your older episodes...this color pooling left me unimpressed til you started explaining it...I just might try it...your blanket is great! Lazy crocodile stitch?! sounds good. any shortcut making crocodile stitch is superb! Hooks keeping: I do leave the hook on my table where I sit and mostly work if I am monogamous and work on one crochet project. I used to put it away with the wips...which is not always the best idea, therefore I now write always on a little tag what hook size I use and pin it on the project, so I do not forget. I try to keep Ravelry project pages up to date, but no way, I am too productive, and do not like describing it always..... I have only one set, others are just without a case, so I keep my set complete at all times....and have hooks in drawers, metal boxes etc. But I still find sometimes a hook in the wip bag as I used to do.... Love from Croatia, Ada

Love your chickens! I have had a backyard flock since 2001. Right now I have 12 hens. You will love it when you start getting eggs. I usually keep my hooks with my wips. But that led me to buying multiples of certain sizes of hooks since I often have several wips that use the same size hook. When I make up a pattern, I do make a note which size hook and what kind of yarn I used when I get it how I want it.

I love that paintbrush stitch, Christa, & will hunt for that tutorial! Gorgeous! Never heard of colour pooling & gonna check that out too.... though I'm very limited with yarns I can use due to multiple chemical sensitivities! I have way too many hooks stored in a couple of crochet hook bags plus one I crocheted hook roll up case and even more in a snaplock bag! I inherited crochet hooks from my grandma and MIL. Also inherited a fine crochet hook set with bamboo handles from my son after he went through a dreadlocks stage! Lol! Blessings. Kerryn

@@SecretYarnery I've just rewatched the planned pooling section of this to work out my border...... very helpful Christa!!💖👍💖 I used the same Gumball colourway as your tissue box cover, as our lounge suite is the same shade as the dark green in it!!😉 I really like it, but needed to check out your border as nothing I've thought of excites me!🙇 The colour pooling drove me nuts as my tension had to change for each colour!!😠 Setting up the start is key!!!👌 I should have frogged it early on & set it up right, as I could have crocheted 5 blankets in the time I took to crochet one!!!😠😁😂😂😂 I might look at chenille....if I can get the right shades! Thanks again for all you do on your channel.... yours is my fave!😍💕🐨

I really like the pillow and pooled blanket. 😊 I'm inspired to try similar projects. I tend to keep my hook with the WIP. That way there is no confusion. When finished then the hook goes back in the case. My mother also made the awful green jello salad way back when. It was gross then 👎🏽and it's gross now. 😄😄 I own that paperback border book and will consider the other one for more ideas! 👍🏾 Thanks for sharing.

Hello from the UK Christa, we used to keep chickens and had a few broods of chicks. I think the scratching mummy hen is doing is to teach the chicks to scratch and also to disturb the grass and soil so the chicks can get to the bugs and grubs. I love your podcast by the way. Those colours on the cushion cover are stunning.

Oh THANKS Deborah!! I am an absolute chicken noob - as the last time I was in a coop was in 1976. HA HA HA! ...Next question - I can get rid of all the roosters, and just keep the hens, right? For eggs? I thought that's how it went, but then some guy told me I needed to keep a rooster to look after the hen??? Chalked that up to macho guy talk, but thought you might know better. ;) Chat soon! Christa. xx!

Hi there! I recently started watching you, and I just love your vlog! Love, love, love the ruana you made, and I can't wait for the tutorial!! Everything you showed today was so pretty! I keep my hook with my WIP, but I did try writing the hook size and stitch on a scrap piece of fabric, and tying it on to the beginning of the project. I also have a jar (covered with crochet, of course) that I keep several hooks in for test projects, because who wants to go back into the hook case all the time- right??!! LOL. I have several hooks of the same size in the sizes I use most frequently.
@SecretYarnery7 жыл бұрын
V - a person after my own heart!! I have multiples of the ones I use most often too - probably the only reason I have ONE in my case most days! ha ha ha Fabric is a clever idea! Smart. Oh Lynn! You're going to make me cry!!! You're so kind. Thank you! I wish I had the discipline to keep notes... I'm so cocky I always think I will be done the WIP before I forget - like it is just SO obvious what hook I used, etc. Uh... not so much. LOL! Case in point: filmed the ENTIRE first half of the Ruana Poncho tutorial last Friday using the wrong size hook. o-0 Can you imagine? Ugh. Have started keeping notes in a notebook, since the Ruana Poncho was long since complete when I went to make another. Compromised and filmed making a child size Ruana Poncho in regular acrylic. Turned out so cute! Just waiting to convert and then upload it. ...actually, forgot to check where the end music was before I uploaded it - had to delete, fix, and am uploading again. Classic! How I keep up with the hook size❤️I have numbered beads in that I hook with a non-spiral safety pin to my work. I try to put my number bead on all my project as soon as I began😁 The hen is scratching on the ground looking for small bugs, insects, Ticks to eat. Chickens will eat tiny rocks that goes into the gullet to help them digest their food. She needs a small amount of sand to dust her feathers in to keep clean and theparasites will stay off of her. Diatomaceous earth is good to get to keep her from having worms. I’m sure you can look all that up😁 enjoy your chickens they are so fun.

I keep my hook with the active project. I've made the lettered "hook-minders", hook reminders. I never remember what hook I'm using no matter how many times I tell myself that I will. I've just ordered the number beads to make them in millimeters since the letters don't always correspond.

Hi Cynthia! I do the same. And WANT to do the same! Wasted 2 hours yesterday starting that CAL with a hook 2 sizes too small! Imagine. ...but then realized I was copying a finished object - not a WIP - so the stitch marker would be removed anyway. Sigh. Maybe I need to make a cute book that stays with my hook case? I dunno. lol! Love the bead idea, though - those will be SO adorable!!! Like earrings. ;) Chat soon, Christa. xx!

Yay weekly vlogs! I’ve been following the pillow cover on Instagram, it looks so soft. I keep my hooks in a ziploc baggie when I’m not using them😬🙄 I know, that’s cringey but it is what it is

Hayley my dear!! How are you?? Ziploc bags would be my LIFE if I could buy them here. Don't joke! Pure genius. What's on your hook?? Chat soon, Christa. xx!

I love chickens! So very sweet. I don’t have them now, but wish I could! As for my crochet hooks, I don’t have a strategy. So, I’d welcome any advice. I’m always forgetting which hook I’m using and lots of times they disappear. 🤔

Enjoyed this video my hook stays with the will until it is finish. Or until it becomes a UFO, which I'd seldom.

That's how I wished mine worked out! Maybe I need to get a better definition of UFO... not WIP-for-Months. ;) xx!!

Hi Christa! Love, love, LOVE the pillow! The colors are gorgeous! I had to wait all day to watch your video (why do we have to work?..lol). Your yarns are so pretty. Do you have a favorite brand you enjoy using? I've wanted a Silky chicken forever but I suppose he'd look pretty silly walking the beach. Anxiously awaiting the book cover tutorial! Have a great weekend! Cary
@SecretYarnery7 жыл бұрын
CARY!!!!! How are you, my lovely?? What is on your hook? What are you up to? My girlfriend from high school "collected" chickens for awhile way back when. She had ALL sorts, and would go to chicken auctions(?) to buy rare ones, etc. Some are so pretty! I would like those ones with feathers on their feet...do you know those ones? I'm SO chicken ignorant! lol And YES! I have a favorite brand: The Secret Yarnery! We import our own branded yarn from Europe. :D Bamboo is so far my favorite fiber... but have yet to dip into that silk. Chenille is also so satisfying to work with - it works up so fast, and is so thick and soft - like a cloud. Sigh... dreamy! What's on your hook?? Chat soon, Christa. xx!

The Secret Yarnery Hi Christa! I'm doing well thank you. Just working...and working... I have nothing of any significance on my hook at the moment..but, my coworkers and I are planner freaks! I'm crocheting them little clips for their planners for Valentine's Day along with a few other goodies. I wish there was a way to attach pics to our comments. Have a great day! Cary ☺

I keep my hook with my wip but I have expensive hooks I keep in the case
@SecretYarnery7 жыл бұрын
Ooooooh! Expensive hooks! You must tell me all about them!!!!
@kimwheeler84146 жыл бұрын
The Secret Yarnery sorry I'm so trying to keep up with all of the replies ha ha ha! My expensive hooks are the etimo rose tulip hook set in the case it was something like 129.00 but I got it on sale for like 89.00 but I wanted them for a year before I found them at that price. When I saw them at that price I had to get them. I started with the aluminum hooks then found the clover soft touch hooks, which are still my faves, then I found the clover amour hooks and I love them I use them most often, I have a few of the most used sizes but I mainly got the bigger sizes to use with the Bernat blanket yarn. So that's my hook story, sorry so long. I do have a lot of hooks but the clover and tulip are the only ones I use. I know their not 100 hooks but a 100 for that set was a lot of money for me, I usually get to make one big purchase a year like that my husband is great and gives me what I ask for which isn't much. All I ever ask for is yarn hehehe

Christa, you don't need a cockerel to keep the hens in in order, or for them to lay eggs. Just give away or sell the cockerels. We lived in the country and kept a cockerel because we liked having one around. But they are noisy ( crowing early in the morning ) and can fight with one another.
@SecretYarnery7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Deborah! That is exactly what we will do. You're a star!! xx!

I thought u needed a cockerel if u want chicks ( for fertilization) one of my daughter's neighbours borrows a rooster when she wants chicks. U don't need them for eggs to eat tho x

Hi Christa, Thanks for another fabulous episode. I love your argyle blanket so much. What is the brand of yarn you used for it? It is normal for chickens to scratch at the earth. Chickens love to dust bathe and is absolutely necessary for them and promotes good health.. dust baths help prevent mites and lice from living on your chickens. Here is a link to info that you may find very useful -----> www.wideopenpets.com/dust-bathing-from-a-to-z-for-backyard-chickens/
