I think the debt cards are a more effective solution because vouchers have too many stimulations that’s why most landlords won’t accept them. If I were a landlord I wouldn’t care if a tenant gave me a voucher or cash they both pay the bills. I’ve been on section 8 for a couple years now, sense 2016 I’m very thankful that they gave me an opportunity for the program. It has helped me a lot and my children, and it didn’t take long at all for them to pull my number I was shocked because I had just filled out for it. But I like the idea I wish that they would of gave me the cash because it was a hassle trying to find places that accept section 8 vouchers

section 8 has amounts they allow for 1 bedroom 2 bedroom etc and in so many places you can't find any place to rent within those top amounts they will pay. So you have approval and no housing, in Oregon they can't discriminate but they just price the rent above HUD'S ceiling.

Rents are $2,000/month average nationwide and landlords demand 3X the rent in income just to apply, sometimes even with a voucher. Those cash programs need to be giving out $6,000/month or more just to keep up with the average rents to displace Section 8. $900 might get you a week in a hotel.

I’ve been on section 8 vouchers for almost 20 years just because of my mom. She passed away and it went in my name. I am now in the process of moving for the very first time and it’s just so confusing with waiting for crap. Cash would be sooooooooo much better.
