When I was there last year there were spectacular thunderstorms on most days in the afternoon. Seems to get the brunt of it compared to even some of the higher alps to the north west.. Amazingly beautifu region. I'm wondering if we were there the same time, we got caught out on Lagaziou, absolutely drenched lol

Can you share how you got to the trail head? Bus? A personal car? Where is long term parking available?

Walked 10km from Niederdorf/Villabassa station. There is a bus from there, but you must book it in advance or they won't let you on. Hence the walk! To add, I actually came back to the lake with family a few days later, parked in Dobbiaco and took the bus, think it was 442. Learned my lesson and bought tickets online in advance. I hear that others do this from Cortina and there's also a bus from there.
