Sections of a Cube

The outer task shows cutting through a cube in a number of different ways and examining the cross section each time.
The inner task is about working with images in ones head. It is the sort of Mathematics that can be done in the dead of night without access to paper or a computer.

The goal of slicing a cube is to produce two dimensional shapes. The first one illustrated is a square, although the animator also shows that the square face can exist on a three dimensional portion of the cube. 0:26 - 0:39 The second shape obtained is a rectangle. By starting from one vertical edge, the animator show us that a variety of rectangle shapes can be obtained. 0:40 - 0:55 The third shape begins with a rectangle close to the nearest vertical edge, then by pushing the top edge of the cut away from us, the cut face becomes a trapezoid. 0:56 - 1:12
