We so much need a secular curriculum convention. There needs to be more representation. Thank you for this video Alex💜

I was homeschooled myself, back then we were the only homeschoolers in our county and some of the very few in our state. There were so few resources to use that we mostly had retired public school textbooks. Homeschool resources have come a looooooong way over all! But yes the majority of homeschoolers have been Christian. I think neutral/secular materials will start becoming much more common now that there is enough of a demand.

I’m really hoping we begin to see more options… it’s funny you say that,, because when I first started homeschooling five years ago it was a little harder for me to find secular curriculum , so I was doing the same thing buying old public school curriculum. I still do because it’s just an easier less expensive route 😁

Thank you for taking us along with you. I finally got to attend a homeschool convention, even if it is online. So many vendors, I wouldn't even know where to start! (Love your videos, hope all is well).

Can you make a review video of the Syl-la-dot curriculum? Did you like it? How is the drum lessons going?
@Rastarunt3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting! We are Christian but all of our curriculum is neutral, every homeschool vendor stuff we go to here in California is like 95% secular. It's hard for me to find faith based stuff for us. So I guess the opposite for us lol
@WhimsicalFamilyLife3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing! I've purchased a couple faith based items, not all on purpose, thinking I could "make do" and I feel quite tired of that scenario. So, definitely trying to only buy secular curriculum & books from now on.
@HomeschoolOfBelAir3 жыл бұрын
I’ve done the same ,,, I recently purchased my daughter a new math (Christian light) cause of its simplicity…

This was very interesting to watch. I’ve never been to a convention. Here in B.C. Canada we have lots of secular homeschoolers. My 3 kiddos are enrolled with a secular home learning school, one of many.

I saw that they are in Florida next week and about a hour away. I can't turn down a chance to visit one. Thank you for your guidance. I am watching this to see if I should pack the kids up or get a sitter. 💙

I would think you would have to ask questions about any new curriculum, if it’s truly secular or not. I would still like to experience this too!

I've never been to a convention either. I find it's even hard being secular on local re-sell curriculum groups. Everything is so faith based. We used a Christian math curriculum the past two years and it was easy to work around, but I don't think I can do that as easy with other subjects

I almost went to this last year! New to TX, is there any secular homeschool CoOps in Texas or Facebook groups?
@HomeschoolOfBelAir8 ай бұрын
Hi ! Sorry such late response… there’s tons of groups out here .. I’m not part of any but I know people that have joined different types of co-ops. Most of them are from the Austin area. I consider that area to be too far for me so I don’t join any of them.

❤ Hi there!Did you end up using the Sylladot Reading Program?
@HomeschoolOfBelAir8 ай бұрын
Parts of it !! by the time I got it I was already using all about reading with my daughter. The program is a great program, though I use it for some of the sentences for extra reinforcement.

Last year (before COVID shut everything down), I had a friend that was going to advertise her new co-op at the convention near us. They refused to allow her to do so because it was secular and the word was "off putting" to them. So yeah.... don't think I'll ever attend one if they stay in that line of thinking lol.

Oh wow!! I really hope our SEA Homeschool Conventions go back to in person next year ,,, I’d love to go to one of those (secular)
