The beer joke is so confusing to me: He freaks out because it's a can of bud light, throws it away, offers it to the trans non-binary stereotype by tossing it towards him, then decides to drink it anyway. The joke is supposed to be, "LGBT things are bad," but in the end the guy makes a fool of himself because, by the time he opens the damn thing, it's been shaken up so much that it gushes all over his face. Let me reiterate: They created the Norm character as an audience proxy for conservatives, ostensibly so they could depict lefties as the soyjack and themselves as the chads -- and then made _him_ the butt of the joke anyway!? How do you fuck that up?

I think that they're "trying" to be funny by making fun of both sides. Because they're trying to be like the Adult Swim shows (South Park namely) which make fun of everyone. Except it's hard for them to even manage that because obviously the creators generally dislike the "woke" community and struggle to satire themselves equally. Just my guess.
@Shuizid3 ай бұрын
It's a psyop by the left, obviously!!1!1!! Norm is secretly gay for Charly - hence he only brought one gay beer for the two of them. But he is afraid others find out, so with Chloe around (why the heck is she in the living room on her phone when he is about to watch sports?) he has to act shocked and give it to the non-binary kid instead - assuming that queers will mindlessly approve everything queer (just like Chaz's dog allergy makes an exception for queer dogs). Turns out Chaz doesn't and while this triggers Charly because as the other closet-gay who wanted to drink the gay beer, he couldn't handle someone not doing the thing he craves but is afraid off. Shortly after Norm just takes the beer anyway, maybe feeling like the attention is away from him. As for the question if the gay beer splashing his face should be interpreted as a facial or a golden shower, I'm not sure yet. Need more episodes to figure out what exactly his kink is.

When Norman Lear brought "All in the Family" to TV in 1971, it resulted in a timeless classic because it presented a believable family dealing w/ sexism, racism, generational gap, etc. issues in an environmental backdrop of domestic (inflation, struggling to make ends meet w/r/t work & paying bills) & foreign (war - both cold & hot) policy, & the resulting tension of the differences of opinion under one roof. The Archie Bunker character generally seemed the 'butt' of most of the jokes, but he was written & acted as more than just a one dimensional bigot. That's the 'art' of comedy which conservatives seem to miss - when you approach humor with only an agenda, nobody laughs.
@JRain2344 ай бұрын
Good points. I also remember one of the tragic reasons it was popular was that way too many took Archie to NOT be the target of the points the writers were making but the steadfast hero in a decaying world. His racist lines were the most remembered and recalled by the white audience. "It's only a joke" when he used the N word, etc. But I could feel the grievance and resentment clearly (as a very young person in the 70s) and it's been present ever since, from Rodney King, Ruby Ridge, Branch Davidians, Militias all the way to Charlottesville and Jan 6th.

@idnintel4 ай бұрын
@@calvinn9214 Yes they agree they have a right to exist the problem for conservative types comes in where as I'm sure you know there are books and other subject matter that introduces transgenderism and homosexuality into their childs brains which they don't appreciate because they are ideologically opposed to it. I think they object because the material is introduced to the children when they are too young and also they disagree with it in general. Conservatives see the huge explosion in transgender identification being made by kids and they feel they have to protect their children from this conditioning. It is what it is. I personally think kids should be taught important info like science, math, english, history - all the stuff we learned in the 80s and 90s and I even felt that the sexed I got in 1989 was too early and this was just talking about things biologically. This was 7th grade. Again children should be innocent kids and not think about sex until high school but our society has gone away from this direction unfortunately and things have become hypersexualized. It was already like this in the 80s but things advanced even more as time went on.

"It's an animated sit-com, so it has to have a laugh track" - some uncreative producer
@ll78684 ай бұрын
Archie Bunker was funny because he was the punchline, this thing tried to make the "Archie" character the victim. They couldn't even design an original background, that's just sad. Sitcoms used real audiences laughter in the 50s-70s, that's why they needed a 3 camera system, to keep laughter consistent throughout a scene where the cameras change shots without having to reshoot that scene 3 times with different audience responses each time. Laugh tracks started out on game shows to prompt random audience response because they were unscripted, sitcoms started using them for shows like MASH that had no audience or for shows that weren't very funny so tracks were added in post. I hate laugh tracks.
@bradyloose32134 ай бұрын

Southpark excels because all it does is magnify the day to day events of the world to its extreme ends. Trey and Matt also ride the middle and poke fun at everyone. Because its fun. If there is a point of south park, it isn't political. Its philosophical, its about the absurdity of 'it all' when we really focus in on it. Its why anyone can enjoy it, its why they can pump out an episode per week, because reality its self writes the content for them. Not a political leaning that the writers refuse to understand.
