That was a total dismantling of that damnable doctrine. Well done.

He condemned sin in the flesh. Rom 8:3 . Our problem is sin not old nature. We have sin living in us but now it is no longer I who do it. Rom 7:17.

Where in scripture do we learn that we receive a "sin nature"? I don't find this term in KJV. I find it only once in NIV, meaning "the flesh". I don't find anywhere where God gives us a new nature. Eye says He will give us a new heart and a new spirit, but nature? Is this "sin nature" different from the nature Adam received? Doesn't God form our nature? I don't find anything in Gen 3 about punishment for Adam's sin being handed down to his descendants? Did Abel have a sin nature? What about Noah, Abraham, Moses, Enoch - is there any evidence that they had a "sin nature"? I notice that throughout this excellent series, you rely over and over again on scripture to support your claims, and rightly so. Here however, scriptural support is practically non-existant. David being conceived in sin does not seem like much to base a doctrine of sin nature on. One would suppose that such a fundamental punishment, or alteration of the nature of man, might have been mentioned somewhere. Why is this sin nature necessary? Adam didn't have one and he seemed quite capable of sinning with the very good nature that God gave him. I find nothing that suggests that God gave man domain to change human nature. Through our free will ability to choose, He does however give us the ablility to form our character. Sin begets sin, to the point where it becomes "second nature" to us, but I think nature is a misnomer, as we are more likely describing our character. This fits nicely with the concept of progressive sanctification, as that is how we are to emulate Christ, by conforming to His character....

Adam brought sin and the curse into the world thus giving us a sin nature. Romans 5:12 - Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Colossians 3, Ephesians 4, and Romans 6 all talk about the old man, representing the sinful nature, and new man also know as the new (righteous) nature. Colossians 3: 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Ephesians 4: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Romans 6: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Pastor has some additional messages that may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3XPkImAiLSgqtk kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHi2dIGmqcmFqsk kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5bSeX59jLOAb5o kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXe8cnitl8pmgKs

@@jjsmoley I’m aware of all that. None of it seems responsive to my specific questions. Up until this point in the series, he relies on scripture to make his case. There is no sin nature in scripture. It is man made and contrary to the written word. The responses provided just restate the case he makes, but does not address any of the questions raised. I know this is what is taught by men trained in seminary, but it doesn’t seem to emanate from scripture. Nor does it make sense

@@peterwillett8327 The term "sin nature" is a concept. This concept is used to describe that man's natural tendencies are to sin, sin being disobedient to what God says. We see that in the example of Adam. The "sin nature" is just another way to describe the tendencies of the flesh. Another way to think about it is "sin capacity". We are born with a free will and have the capacity to choose sinful things. The flesh has natural tendencies to server self and go against what God says. Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? When we receive the "new nature" aka the Spirit, it has no capacity to sin, it can only do good. The Spirit/new nature is born of God and cannot sin. 1 John 3:9 - Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. However, we as humans have to make a choice about which "nature/man" we yield to. Do we yield to the flesh/sin nature/old man or yield to the Spirit/new nature/new man. Galatians 5:-17 - For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

sin nature has a specific meaning, referring to the effect that Adam's original sin had on all his descendants. This is widely taught. It is a fundamental tenet of Protestantism. It is the basis on which the doctrine of total depravity or total moral inability is taught. It does not emanate from the text. Nowhere does scripture say that man's nature was changed. Nowhere in scripture does it say that man is born unable to respond to God. Reformers, Calvinists and Lutherans (perhaps others) hold this as Biblical teaching. My point is simply, that it is not supported by the text, and more strongly, it is clearly refuted by several passages. I found the sermon series quite insightful and beneficial. I simply pointed out on this one point, the pastor strayed from his formula of using biblical passages to demonstrate proper doctrine, but when it came to this particular topic, he departed from this approach and merely assumed what he said is true, and assumed his listeners would believe it too. Scripture tells us that God formed us in the womb. God does not form defective creatures. He gives them free will and allows them to corrupt their own character through repeatedly choosing to sin, but to claim that He creates us with a corrupt nature ultimately places the responsibility for man's sin on God. That is an affront to the character of God. And, it is simply not necessary to understand or explain scripture. The flesh is weak. Our hearts are inclined toward sin. We live in a cursed world. But we are not born guilty. We don't sin because we're born sinners. We're sinners because we freely, joyously and willful commit sin. God made nature. Nature is not the problem. We make character - that is the problem @@jjsmoley
