The belly wrap chain is attached to the wood skid. What purpose is that when the coil it self can go flying foward off the pallet?

Prevent loadshift. If coils are flying chains won't help.

Why is that load not spread apart a little bit more, and do those chains ever break??
@DaleLClay8 жыл бұрын
Keeping them close also allows them to prevent movement of other stacks. I suppose everything can break once its breaking point is reached. The number of securements we use is based on a mathematical formula to secure what it can handle.

I can see why some drivers hate tarp ping , looks like, for the majority of your loads, you could use a 25' shorter trailer? What is gained, by the distance, between the two trailer axles? Appears that the military practice of "hurry up and wait" can also be applied to trucking? Thanks for your videos and insight and good luck.

Don't know if this boy is gonna do it. But you can loose a LOT of slack in chains by how you hook them into the rub rails ... Sometimes that's helpful. I hauled a lot of machinery. I even had shorter pieces of chain for specific jobs. Even had several no more than couple feet long .... You can hook a ratchet binder (only kind I carried) directly to rub rails if done right ...

Top coil in center needed a cross chain. Possible if you hit a vehicle and came to a sudden stop that coil could slide into your cab. A truck driver 19 years old died in Tilbury, Ontario Canada from Laidlaw as a frenchman was merging onto the highway and came into the Laidlaws right lane and cut him off and he hit the back of his trailer as the french man ran out of on ramp. The laidlaw driver could not get over because a car was pinning him in. His coils like yours slid into his bunk and killed him. I've been doing flatbed for 10 years and would cross each chain and add a third rail to other rail strap or chain on each of those coil stacks as well. the over the rail to rail does nothing for forward movement but prevents the coils from sliding off the truck in case the trailer gets ditched of a jack knife occurs.Canada requires cross on over on each stack or its an 800 dollar fine.

If you used two chains on the middle stack anyway, why not use the X pattern like the other two? Why not just use straps? Quicker, easier, and will secure the load just fine.
@DaleLClay7 жыл бұрын
+Joe Mavericks policy is chains before straps on steel loads. I am not convinced it would be qiucker, as it's still the same number of chains.

I want to know who showed you how to sucure the front and back of a load with a braceing chain with no binders // tarping you get 75 % you did good the way you covered coils to protect that last tarp ... you need some help with covering on front tarp at thends...
@DaleLClay7 жыл бұрын
Some things are learn as you go with securement videos and securement manuals. Not every load is experienced under the tutelage of an instructor. I still feel fairly new to the trucking world and am always trying to do better in the methods I use.

+RelaxingHomestead I do have a Playlist for how I secure stuff.
@RelaxingHomestead8 жыл бұрын
+Dale Clay Yes Sir looks good. Seems like youtube puts alot of importance on keywords found in the search titles. Looking at your playlist, 5 of 12 have word securement, 4 or so have tarping, and only 1 has title word with flatbed. No consistant theme or way for keywords to find your work. You do the best documentation in this space. Seems like if you streamlined the wording to make it easier for the search engine to recommend your videos. Like start all of them with Flatbed Securement: Steel Coil etc. I am a perfectionist, might not want to be the minutia you want to go down. Just seems like youtube/ Maverick Referrals is a way you monetize your down time while on the road to create an additional stream of income.

@gereral1_jackofalltrades8 жыл бұрын
Correc. I use 3/8 chain and secure for 9600 lbs. You only need half for each point or rail as the ministry does when checking. say each coil is 5000 lbs. have 2 you would need 2 chains and a cross chain or strap. Sometimes I will use straps on the middle coils cross X and over each but always chain the front and back ones. Sometimes side skidded coils you has like 8 rows so you run out of chains. LOL
