I've been playing the full version and still on the campaign level for 23 hours lol. Diplomacy becomes a must later in the game. Mainly for resources but also so that nations don't send saboteurs to mess with your island structures. The best ally is the Free Traders as 'setting up a meeting' and having 250 curios allows you to purchase a frigate from them. There is no limit to the amount of ships you can possess, only captains that you hire. The frigates come with a captain, of course. There is a side quest to find a legendary captain, his stats are phenomenal, and he starts at lvl 10. Giving him a brigantine allows him to fire cannons every .9 second. Worker count- The worker total at the top left is counting all workers on all islands. Worker total at the top center is the amount on that particular island. There are a few quests that require a certain number of workers across all islands. This number is all categories of worker (laborers, hired hands, smiths, and artisans). It's more efficient to upgrade huts->houses, houses->manors, manors->villas to get this total than to build tons of huts (I made that mistake). Captains- In the early game, keeping them alive isn't a necessity as much as later. Cogs and Ketches are easily replaceable as well as the captains. Put legendary captains in at least a Brig to increase survivability as they cannot be hired or rehired. Acquired legendary captains or purchased Frigates from the Free Traders will go towards the limit of captains you can hire. Ships- Pay attention to their abilities. A fleet of 10 ketches can bring down larger ships if used correctly. The smoke bomb ability blinds ships for 3 seconds so 10 ketches can blind an enemy for 30s if used as soon as one smoke bomb ends. The AI does not use ship abilities. Play/pause buttons will allow you to use all their abilities at once without frantic clicking (use this for ships with salvo and/or cone abilities). Needs- This category is somewhat frustrating as the campaign unlocks structures as you go. Some of the islands that you conquer will have very limited space. Paying attention to the bonuses or penalties of resource production, on a particular island, will allow you to limit the amount of unneeded structures or allow you to demolish unneeded production on islands for a more suitable one. Needs is more of an issue for smiths as they require prisons to be in their vicinity before they can be upgraded.

15:56 Grace O'Malley, Anne Bonny, Mary Read are a few off the top of my head with Ching Shih being the most notable mention as she commanded some 400+ ships.
@CharliePryor4 ай бұрын
Oh for sure. Anne has an awesome (and sad) story. There were a few women pirates, but it was very rare. Ching Shinh wasn’t even born during the era of this game, or the topic of conflict we’re looking at here. Her parents wouldn’t even exist yet.

Upgrading the storage of the building allows it to have more of its needed resource so you can build a little stockpile of the intermediate goods in the production buildings from what Ive gathered in my time playing. The warehouse needs to be massive as holding 5 of everything becomes a large undertaking later in the game with all of the goods available. That warehouse ends up holding a couple hundred items spread across the goods.
@CharliePryor4 ай бұрын
Yeah but the expense isn’t worth it. There’s no reason to have more than 50 of any given resource at a time, unless there are ships that consume more than 50 to build or something.
@travishenderson61364 ай бұрын
@@CharliePryor from what I can remember I think the max used is 30, so no need for more than 50 unless you want to build a stockpile of some of the late game resources that feel like they take decades to make.

At 28:30 when you are trying to reduce the number of workers in the woodcutters lodge I noticed a checkbox called 'automatic worker assignment'. Maybe you have to uncheck it to manually set the workforce.
@CharliePryor4 ай бұрын
Almost certainly that’s what’s happening.

never really thought about the A I not being described in a computer game. the enemy is goes by the programming that is has. It doesn’t have to ability to think.

I may be wrong, but I think the idea is to mostly bolster your money by killing ships and plunder them. It seems to me that the costs are so high to counter the looting.
@travishenderson61364 ай бұрын
Once you get an island's needs taken care of, you make a grip of money off the number of people you need to run the higher tier production.

I count 92 cannons on the sides of the man-o-war
@CharliePryor4 ай бұрын
IRL, a British vessel of such a class would have anywhere between 90-120 guns on three decks, the greatest of vessels (1st rated ship) being noted as a "ship of the line." More common though was that lower 80-90 gun vessel on a man-o-war. So this one having 92 on a single side... is a big exaggeration. :P
@memesarememes83144 ай бұрын
@@CharliePryor I counted about 45 on each side so totaling 90

@@CharliePryor oh, that was 92 on both sides.. I was unable to get a good eyeball on front / back to count those as well :D And yeah, I kinda love old boats too :D Amazing feats of engineering for their times!
@CharliePryor4 ай бұрын
@@bubbles69138 well if it’s adding up to 92 total for both sides… quite realistic for a ship of the line then. ;)

Judging by Isabella‘s accent the developers have watched Black Sails… ☺️

Is the captain limit universal? Or is it per captains lodge/whatever. (You have 2, don’t you?)

It’s a universal limit.
