Thinking about speakerstands and -placement, I find there's this paradox: on the one hand people worry about dampening the speaker's vibrations and look for 'soft', spungy, absorbing materials. On the other hand there's this idea that to enable the bass/woofer to accellerate well (to produce a tighter, accurate bass), they look for a secure fixation of the speaker onto the floor (hence the spikes) or wall. Somehow the solutions for these two ideas seem contradictory. Any thoughts on this? TIA
@markphilpot8734
@markphilpot8734 28 күн бұрын
The key to knowing the truth of your speakers is to have them securely mounted to the top plate of a properly dampened speaker stands. Their true colors will not be revealed otherwise. The excess energy produced by the speaker that is responsible for smearing the sound is caused by this energy not being dissipated into the floor or dead foot. The floor construction must be addressed if you want to hear all your speakers are capable of delivering. Some aren’t getting all of what they can deliver. The basics must be addressed first. Inquire if interested.

velcro (the tape in the front of your boardshorts) would probably work well too. But, I do agree with another comment on here that the 4 tabs under the speakers are for screws to hold the speaker in place

I love blu-tack. Also I did away with children and house keeping 😀 But I do have some questions, suggestions. Is measuring the floor really needed when you level the stand with spikes? If your floor is not level you are going to use spikes anyways. And I would use the spirit level on the top plate as that is where the loudspeaker will go. You used it on the bottom plate but which may not be level with the top plate. And you could (should?) repeat this with the spirit level on top of the loudspeaker after applying the blu-tack. I know this is for the real audiophile nerd, but when you do it, you do it all the way 😀 Anyways, loved the video as always.
@YuriBrus

Hi, thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it. I agree that you should level the top plate and tbe speakers, but this was the only way that I could get a close up shot of both the level and the spikes at the same time :) What I meant with the floor is, that since my floor doesn't seem to be level all throughout the room I always put the stands where want them first and than do tbe leveling. Thanks again, really enjoy your videos a lot as well.

It's 2022 and most stands don't have features to solidly secure very pricey speakers to the stand. Good riddance. I've looked and looked and it just doesn't seem to be a priority.
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero 2 жыл бұрын
@@iRonlMoNKleY I think the official stands for high-end products do have a way to secure those specific speakers on it. But yeah, if you don't like it... chances are you'll have to make do with one that doesn't allow for mounting. Still, with a little bit of creativity you can come up with a decent way to mount. Blu Tack does work, but you might want something a little bit more secure depending on the situation.

I'm just on the market for a pair of stands for my UniFi 2.0 UB52. My first bookshelf speakers ever. Are you actually serious that neither stands nor speakers come with any kind of bracing?? People usually just leave their speakers sitting on top of the plate??? This seems wild to me. I know that a lot of brands have matching stands that can be bought for a specific model, and that those usually do have screws, etc.
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus Ай бұрын
@ln3346 Congratulations! Those are excellent speakers you’ve got there. You're right, it is unfortunately common that most bookshelf speakers don't come with factory-installed mounting options. While there are some exceptions, like the KEF LS50, it’s typically up to the consumer to figure out a solution. Personally, I’d advise against drilling holes yourself, as it could negatively affect the resale value. Double-sided tape might leave unsightly marks or even damage the finish. For the least intrusive and easiest option, Blu-tac or similar sticky products are the way to go. They won't damage your speakers and are simple to use.
@ln3346
@ln3346 Ай бұрын
@@YuriBrus that's also a breakthrough info for me, as I didn't know first thing about speaker stands - more specifically how do speakers mount. I was afraid the top plate wouldn't "fit" my speakers, but now it seems like I can simply rest my bookshelves on most stands (even the brand ones).
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus Ай бұрын
@ln3346 Yes, just make sure that the surface of the stands is not larger than the speakers. It looks funny if the top plate of the stands sticks out left and right.

do you think blu-tack is stronger then Command Large Picture Hanging Strips?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 3 жыл бұрын
Probably not. But, it is less likely to leave traces or damage the speaker's finish when you remove it. Besides that, it helps with isolating the speaker from possible resonances.

For small speakers the blu-tack work well enough, however I've recently obtained a pair of Arendal Monitor S speakers which are 40lbs each, making them on the stand top heavy. If either of them were to be bumped, blu-tack won't be strong enough to hold them on the stand. I bought the 3M Command Large Picture Hanging Strips and they work.

@thenonexistinghero 2 жыл бұрын
Problem is that speakers have different sizes and different places to mount them to the stand. Different stands have them in different places as well. A stand that makes a perfect mount for your speaker may not fit in your interior, in which case you'll need a different stand that may not have an option to mount your speaker to it. And to secure your speaker to it you'll have to get a little bit creative and use something like this or even better, if you're a bit handy with crafting you can create your own mounting solution for it.
