I've been using cat-litter to fill stands and blu-tac to seat speakers since the 1980s

Hello John Holmes. Thanks for your feedback. Cat litter works great as well, and depending on what stands are being used, it may even be a much better choice than sand.

For only 5 bucks the best thing you can do to secure your Hi-Fi. Grandson coming soon. Will do the same with other technical things which are expensive. Thanks a lot for your hint.

Thanks for watching. Yeah, I still believe it is the best solution for speakers that do not provide any option to be bolted down to their stands.

Thinking about speakerstands and -placement, I find there's this paradox: on the one hand people worry about dampening the speaker's vibrations and look for 'soft', spungy, absorbing materials. On the other hand there's this idea that to enable the bass/woofer to accellerate well (to produce a tighter, accurate bass), they look for a secure fixation of the speaker onto the floor (hence the spikes) or wall. Somehow the solutions for these two ideas seem contradictory. Any thoughts on this? TIA

I love blu-tack. Also I did away with children and house keeping 😀 But I do have some questions, suggestions. Is measuring the floor really needed when you level the stand with spikes? If your floor is not level you are going to use spikes anyways. And I would use the spirit level on the top plate as that is where the loudspeaker will go. You used it on the bottom plate but which may not be level with the top plate. And you could (should?) repeat this with the spirit level on top of the loudspeaker after applying the blu-tack. I know this is for the real audiophile nerd, but when you do it, you do it all the way 😀 Anyways, loved the video as always.
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it. I agree that you should level the top plate and tbe speakers, but this was the only way that I could get a close up shot of both the level and the spikes at the same time :) What I meant with the floor is, that since my floor doesn't seem to be level all throughout the room I always put the stands where want them first and than do tbe leveling. Thanks again, really enjoy your videos a lot as well.

velcro (the tape in the front of your boardshorts) would probably work well too. But, I do agree with another comment on here that the 4 tabs under the speakers are for screws to hold the speaker in place

do you think blu-tack is stronger then Command Large Picture Hanging Strips?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 2 жыл бұрын
Probably not. But, it is less likely to leave traces or damage the speaker's finish when you remove it. Besides that, it helps with isolating the speaker from possible resonances.
@mortimersnerd1348
@mortimersnerd1348 Ай бұрын
For small speakers the blu-tack work well enough, however I've recently obtained a pair of Arendal Monitor S speakers which are 40lbs each, making them on the stand top heavy. If either of them were to be bumped, blu-tack won't be strong enough to hold them on the stand. I bought the 3M Command Large Picture Hanging Strips and they work.

It's 2022 and most stands don't have features to solidly secure very pricey speakers to the stand. Good riddance. I've looked and looked and it just doesn't seem to be a priority.
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero Жыл бұрын
@@iRonlMoNKleY I think the official stands for high-end products do have a way to secure those specific speakers on it. But yeah, if you don't like it... chances are you'll have to make do with one that doesn't allow for mounting. Still, with a little bit of creativity you can come up with a decent way to mount. Blu Tack does work, but you might want something a little bit more secure depending on the situation.

@@YuriBrus I just used this technique on Norstone Stylum 2 with KEF LS50. Very happy. Do you think by adding sand into stands better sound can be achieved?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, just make sure that the sand can not leak out. Norstone stand do not seal off completely at the bottom. Alternatively, you could try to order atabites from Atacama, or something similar.

Notice the four holes on top of the stand? Yep that is for truly securing you speakers to the stands with scews
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, thanks for pointing that out, I should have mentioned that as well. It is definitely the most secure solution. Some speakers even have threaded inserts underneath. I wouldn't recommend drilling holes, tbough. Unless you're certain that you won't be reselling them in the near future.
@davideamaral

Droidz Hunterrz: do you know that there are speakers that don't have holes to screw into the stands? Therefore, I use Uhu Patafix that is a similar and secure material .
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero Жыл бұрын
Problem is that speakers have different sizes and different places to mount them to the stand. Different stands have them in different places as well. A stand that makes a perfect mount for your speaker may not fit in your interior, in which case you'll need a different stand that may not have an option to mount your speaker to it. And to secure your speaker to it you'll have to get a little bit creative and use something like this or even better, if you're a bit handy with crafting you can create your own mounting solution for it.

@YuriBrus

Hi, did you get the original or a generic blu-tack? Maybe it's due to the piano finish, wouldn't recommend trying anything stronger than Blu-tack though, seen double sided tape damaging the veneer.

I use it. You really need to stretch and pull it, wad it up and stretch it again. Keep doing this until it’s warm, soft and tacky. THEN use it like in the video. It holds much better this way.

Hi there, thanks for your comment. Yeah, Velcro will hold the speakers in place as well. The reason why I prefer Blu-Tack is that, due to it's consistency, it could aid a bit in sound isolation plus it never leaves any marks on the speaker's finish, after removal. Have a great weekend, Yuri
