"proceeds to show the old and insecure windows XP" Proceeds to comment on a six year old video about their use of technology that was still being supported and patched (i.e. not insecure like you say) at the time.

For the servers, not the PCs for monitoring, etc
@jonny67025 жыл бұрын
Those PCs for monitoring also probably do not have an outside connection to the world, or otherwise extremely strict network rules only allowing specific addresses to communicate. Don’t you think google is a step ahead of you on OS security?

For others wondering, it's at 3:04. They probably use Windows XP for testing their equipment, which means it is offline.

It neat they have 100's of millions of dollars in physical security, but every Intel CPU they have, has the Intel Management Engine which is a way of accessing every computer under the OS level.
@AndrewLuhring9 жыл бұрын
All this video did was describe how difficult it would be to gain access to the servers without detection... but not all people who want to gain access to a thing care about not being detected. What do they do when an unauthorized person gains physical access to the servers? There's no way there is not a plan for that.

+Genesis Calamiong Depends on if that data was local or not. Chances are if it wasn't then they would still have some metadata hanging around just incase you may need to recover. It may depend on the data category as well. Something to do with business may stick around. Personal stuff that isn't of much use like a photo or so may be completely scrapped.

what good is the protection if you just sell the info anyway?
@raptus911510 жыл бұрын
The info is sold only with a Users Permission, doing so without permission would violate a users legal rights as well as breaking numerous Google policies, if permission is given to the sale of information, it is always done securely to trusted companies. If they just "sell the info" those who seek to do wrong with that data would get their hands on it, putting that user at risk.

It would also cost a lot of money to upgrade all of their software for updating and I’m sure it did when they eventually would’ve switched to a more modern version of Windows
