Russian soldiers, ‘anti-retreat squads’ and significant losses: how Kadyrov units actually fight

Russian propaganda shapes their image as a formidable force capable of carrying out any task of Putin. But after 26 days of war, this myth is completely debunked.
Kadyrov units are now called ‘TikTok troops’ for their love of staged videos. Because during the war they ‘distinguished themselves’ only by recording videos and committing atrocities against civilian population.
In addition, their main task is to ‘clean up’ and kill Russian soldiers fleeing the battlefield. That is, they perform the function of ‘anti-retreat squads’ and shoot at their own military. Although, they do not see Russians as ‘their own’, they call them ‘lousy’ and are happy to kill them.
The invader also tells his wife that Ukrainians are shelling them from artillery day and night.
What to add here? We have enough shells for every occupier! We will defend our land to Victory!
Glory to Ukraine!

Some things never change. In the Winter war in 1939 where Soviet union invaded Finland, the political comisars and their officers shot their own troops if they withdrew from an attack. So the regular infantry had two choices: attack and get mowned down by the Finns and retreat and get killed by their own.

Yes. And that is why Putin launched his war: his kleptocracy has bled Russia absolutely dry. They had a great opportunity 30 years ago, they had massive natural resources and they appropriated and exported all the profits. More than 30 years ago, when Putin was the sacked ex-mayor of St Petersburg, people in the Baltic countries knew him as (1) a hawk who was considering invading - even though he had no job! (2) an utterly ruthless shit who like to have people assassinated and (3) reputedly the richest man in Russia, because he had appropriated, not just some oil and gas profits, but the entire economic sector for a large region.

The other things I have noticed, is that they do not know understand or care about human rights violations again innocent civilians, but also they care not about their own soldiers that flee when they think they may die. My brother was in the army and it’s a family, a unit that all care for each other, like Brothers, seems the Russians are willing to kill their own, which is despicable. It is no surprise to me that they are losing this war. The evidence presents from intel picked up like this Russian conversation, that they don’t really want to be either in Ukraine fighting or in a war at all. Rossiya not Russia, Ukraine is the real Rusia (one s), Rossiyans not Russians, Rossiya is the actual modern adopted name of the Grand Duchy of Muscovy, not Russia. Rossiya attacked the Rus’ state of Ukraine. It’s a Rosso-Rus’ Ukrainian war, war between the formerly northern Rus’ (Muscovy) self proclaimed as Rossiya and the southern Rus (Kievan Rus), known these days as Ukraine. Rossiya actually stole it’s name, people must know that Ukraine is really Rusia and has always been Rusia until the 18th century, and “Russia” as we know it today, is and always was Muscovy, until they greekefied and stole the name of what is now called Ukraine. So Muscovy (self proclaimed as Rossiya) 🇷🇺 is attacking the real Rusia 🇺🇦 , foremost heir tho the legacy of the Kievan Rus. Name “Russia” (Rossiya) came into use in the 15th century but until the 18th century it was used to refer to what is now Ukraine, by the Byzantines and Helines(Greeks). But then the name was stolen by Muscovy. All in order to be eligible to claim the land of modern day Ukraine. Rus’, Rus’ land, Rusia, all trough out history was a name that referred to what is now Ukraine. If you care for Ukraine, in further comments please make a point to spell “Russia” properly, as Rossiya, or better yet refer to them as Muscovy and just put Rossiya in brackets. And please refer to their people as Muscovites/Rossiyans. Слава Русь-Україні! Glory to Rus’-Ukraine!

Kadyrov units are Chechen paramilitary. The Russians have a very long history of using one ethnicity to control others. The Soviets liked using Tatars as Sergeants for instance. @@fedism A more famous example is probably with Chechnya, as the Chechens were accused of collaborating with the Germans during the Second World War. As a result, a copious amount were deported, with ethnic Russians arriving to occupy the now vacant territory. This caused major issues and ethnic tensions during the 80s and 90s when the Chechens returned and was one of the many escalating factors for the Chechen Wars, the mass exodus of Russians led to a major brain drain in the region. Im not just talking about deportation of ethnic groups, but Stalin's use of divide and conquer methods across the Soviet republics has also impacted modern history

Stalin's entire administrative policy was based of maintaining pressure between nations ans ethnicities inside the ussr. To do that he would draw borders in such way that large ethnic groups would be left in one ssr instead of their own. For example, on the very south of belarus, around the prypiat river the population was mostly ukrainian, they even asked the soviet goverment to redraw the border but stalin refused. Another example is the central asian countries. Just look at their borders and it'll tell you everything

"Make a living?" My older brother shoveled chicken shit , his wife told me. Then they spent three years building their boat, and now swim and dive and work, sometimes generously, giving electric power to people who never had it, in the South Pacific, living a life of beauty. THEY never swallowed beer or absinthe , or shot or raped innocents to "make a living." I learned ballet from bothRussian and Ukrainian - and Romanian, teachers. I made a living, WITHOUT murdering or raping or looting. During early life, I threw bales of hay, planted trees, trimmed trees and bushes so they would not damage house, worked constructing homes, painted them, roofed them, cleaned them, "making a living" without invading or killing. Along with my teachers, I taught things of beauty, making a living. What kind of monsters are these people on their telephones?

Even in the Soviet Red Army during World War II, the use of NKVD blocking troops to execute retreating soldiers was not a common occurrence and is not portrayed accurately in media. Frequently, they simply sent the soldiers back in the direction of the front, send them to penal battalions, or execute the unit’s officers and replace them with more willing commanders. If this is true, this may represent a greater amount of brutality that Russian soldiers and conscripts face compared to the Red Army (which is hard to imagine). It’s also another pretty apparent reason why Russian soldiers are in better hands with the Ukrainians rather than at the hands of their own commanders.
@MelbaOzzie
@MelbaOzzie 2 жыл бұрын
Not true. Stalin issued two orders: one that explicitly stated that soldiers that hesitated in battle, or were captured by the Germans, were to be shot on the spot. The second order stated that the families of those soldiers who were captured were also to be shot, or sent to the Gulag. These two orders explain why the Russians suffered so many dead; more of them were shot by their own people than by Germans.
@MelbaOzzie

@Alan LewisFYI: "Infantry Provisions of the Red Army; 1941" Says: "...capture is treason to the homeland" Stalin's "Order No.270, August 16, 1941": declares that any soldier who is captured or surrenders is "a traitor to homeland and is to be given the highest penalty: shooting." "Article 58-1V of the Soviet Criminal Code" specifies that the family of any soldier who is captured, surrenders or deserts suffers collective guilt and is to be "deprived of all means of existence". NKVD "Order No. 246": specifies that anyone suspected of disloyalty is to be shot on sight.

not really in the way it was portrayed in the movie, to gun down a routing battalion you'd need an even stronger detachment at their back, that's not something the Soviets could afford to do even in their wildest dreams, there were however something like military police that would arrest deserters and send them to penal battalions, the troops that routed were accessed and then depending on whether they were a risk of routing again were sent to do labor, if they were deemed willing and capable they were sent right back to the thickest battles.. the no retreat policy applied primarily to higher ranks, commanders, lieutenants who gave the order to retreat when it enabled the enemy to carry out a breakthrough and encircle the troops on the flanks. ! battle group routing usually meant 1 or two more who kept fighting got wiped out because of it. Also in this case, i don't particularly believe there's such blocking detachments like depicted in "enemy at the gates" either.... it would just lead to surrender rather than retreat and regroup.

Oh, the Soviets _certainly_ had blocking detachments in World War Two!! They were employed to ensure that the Soviet troops wouldn't flee the front lines, after Stalin issues his infamous Order 227 -- the _"not one step back'_ order. I find it really hard to believe that the Russians are doing it _now,_ though! I can see making an argument for the blocking detachments, when your country is in an existential battle for survival, like the Soviets were in WW2. I _cannot,_ however, imagine employing them when _you_ are the invaders who have invaded another country! I mean, now _that's_ pretty disgusting!

Can a Putin Bot explain something for me because I really want to know. Last time I checked, Russian had invaded Chechnya a couple of times and killed thousands and thousands of people. Chechen terrorists took over a Russian theatre leaving many dead (mostly due to the Russian ham fisted rescue efforts). Chechen terrorists also took over the Beslan school leading to many more deaths. I remember a video making the rounds on gore sites years ago of a Chechen militiaman sawing off the head of a young Russian conscript with a Finka. So this leads me to believe that Chechens really hate Russians. Now why are Chechens fighting for Putin like loyal dogs? It makes no sense.

I watched a film the other day called Born to Die in the Ukrainian War. I am a 58-year-old American. I am a machinist about a trade I was a marine for a while but I have never been to war or never been in a battle. I saw some pictures in that video that really shocked me. It has since been taken off of KZbin but I don't think it should be. I think that all human beings need to watch it and gain an idea of what war is really like before they listen to these TV personalities and say that children need to go off to War. The one picture from that video that I think I will never forget as long as I live was of a Russian soldier sitting on a box and he had been very Gravely injured. His entire face, the front of his skull not including his brain case had been blown off. There was nothing below his forehead except a giant red hole going down into his neck. He was quite obviously alive after this happened because he sat down on this box and died in a sitting position. He had no eyes to see no tongue or mouth or jaw even to scream with. I can't get over thinking about the horror of that. Is it a luxury to ask to live in peace? Yes I guess I am a coddled American but I've worked very hard my whole life. I think anyone willing to work for it deserves peace a warm place to sleep and food to eat and some kind of security in their mind. God please bless everyone fighting and help them to know God's peace and to realize it among men and Nations.

Why is one man's voice being distorted? It sounds like it's being distorted to maintain his privacy. Why would anyone want to maintain this man's privacy?

Good question. Maybe they'd don't want to dissuade Russians from calling home and airing their dirty laundry.

I think the recoding may have been slowed down to allow the translation to be done more easily, and they didn't bother to speed it up again. It is odd though. As a peice of propaganda, it is saying all the right things from Ukraine's perspective.

This war reminds me of Vietnam , that was a stupid one too , we lost 60,000 troops for nothing , 200,000 wounded , 2,000 MIA's still , China and Russia kept sending ammo and missile systems there and even sent their troops and they beat us
