'Russian conscripts' complain of being 'thrown into the s**t with 1940s rifles that do not work'

Mutinous Russian forces are sabotaging their weapons and refusing to carry out orders amid surging Red Army deaths, a UK spy chief will reveal today.
Vladimir Putin “massively misjudged” how hard conquering Ukraine would be but is bent on his “personal war” - even as his poorly fed and armed soldiers are giving up.
It came as telling footage showed despairing conscripts complaining of being “thrown into the s**t” with 1940s rifles that do not work.
Planes have been downed by friendly fire and Russia’s “command and control is in chaos,” GCHQ boss Sir Jeremy Fleming will say.
Met with fierce resistance, Russian troops have been bogged down and pushed back. The strategically important town of Trostyanets in the north-east has been retaken, the occupying soldiers fleeing, leaving their uniforms behind.
But Putin’s fearful generals are hiding the scale of the battlefield losses from him as what was meant to be a lightning war grinds on.

This is not the cold war. Russians have changed. They are a very intelligent people and too well educated to be used as canon fodder. Putin has taken control of the media the same way the old Soviet Union did but eventually the people will figure out that they've been lied to. Now that Putin has authorized drafting more kids into the military this isn't going to end well for Putin. This is so sad. These fine young soldiers are not dying for Russia, they are dying for Putin's ego.

To me it's incredible that the way Russian army works and operates hasn't changed since 1940's. In Poland we say: "Russia is not a country, it is a state of mind". Edit: Oh wow! Never had so many likes. Thanks! Just to add... That thing about "State of mind.." has also the positive influence on Russian society. It is exactly the thing that allows such large country to stay intact for so long. But still... the negatives outperform positives big time and we can all see that over and over again

This reflects my experience, I lived in Russia until recently. Conscripts to the army are the children of poorer families who can't send their kids to Universities as a way of getting out of conscription. You can even buy your children out of conscription if you have the money. Ordinary Russians don't feel anger or hatred to Ukrainians, the two societies are so intertwined. Demanding kids to become instant soldiers and do something they don't want to do has this effect !!!!! To those that say they can just refuse .... 0:49 *"They illegally took us out of Russian territory..."* - I think what they are referring to is that *Russian law generally prohibits the president from deploying conscripts abroad,* they are supposed to only be used as home guard, but *Russian contract (volunteer) forces weren't sufficient for this large an invasion.* There was video of some early in the conflict who were separated and sent home from Ukraine because they hadn't finished basic training. Russian combat effectiveness is expected to deteriorate over time because: - Departing conscripts (1 year of service) typically help train incoming conscripts, but can't now because they are deployed. - Fewer contract (volunteer) soldiers are available for training. - Conscripts are less likely to go through war games as part of their training. - Contract casualties are being replaced with conscripts. - Contract soldiers are less likely to re-enlist.

People in these comments seem confused. These are Russian speaking Ukrainians from the Donbass region of Ukraine which is occupied by Russia. Russian armed forces are kidnapping them from their homes, giving them old rifles and sending them to the front to fight. Think of it like this. Say Mexico invades the US, and Mexico occupies some largely Spanish speaking towns in Texas and starts kidnapping these regular Texans, putting guns in their hands, driving them to the front lines in Missouri to fight. They don't know what is going on, they have no military training, but the US forces in Missouri don't know that and are just going to assume they are the normal Mexican army. They have no way to save themselves.

@@manmonkee Yes, they are like rural young men who grew up in Russian speaking communities in Eastern Ukraine. They are simple, regular people - grocery store workers, mechanics etc. They are occupied by the regular Russian Army and essentially told if they don't fight they'll be killed. They are given crappy weapons, driven to locations in the West they probably have never even been too. At this point the regular ukrainian Army sees them in Russian gear and assumes they are Russian. They are basically dead either way, killed by Ukrainians who assume they are Russian or killed by their Russian kidnappers if they don't fight Ukrainians. They are cannon fodder for Russians. If they die it is okay to Russia because they are not Russians, nobody in Russia will mourn them.

For example, to trick the Germans into thinking their russian informant had accurate informations Stalin sent 10,000 soldiers into death. Like the Germans knew the attack was coming bc they were told and when the attacked indeed took place, they were like ok we can trust this guy´s information. The Soviets would line up a long convoy of tanks, APCs, thousands of local troops and Cuban pilots then match them south in dusty column towards the border. South African forces would simply cross the border, take position THEN damage them with artillery, flank them with highly mobile tank destroyers and finish retreating troops with cluster bombs...
