Sedona, AZ seems to be the destination we try new things. This was the first time we took the new rig ("Grand Ginger" - our Grand Design 312BHTS Travel Trailer) onto the dirt roads to dry camped on BLM land. The first mistake we made was taking a fire road off of a fire road. We’ll leave those roads for the truck campers and class B’s and stick to the main fire road next time! The next mistake we made was not arriving with plenty of water and turns out our 2 6v batteries were not suitable for the amount of power we needed during this trip.
Maybe you’ve had a similar trip where things don’t seem to come together. In this video, we offer some tips and ideas to help your trip back on track.

Our first ever camper trip was with brand a small pop up. 2nd night and one of the lift cables snapped in the middle of the night. Thank god for the safety bars or we would have been crushed! That could have been the beginning and the end of our RV adventures but we pushed on and now several years later we're on our 3rd camper and have more scheduled camping trips than ever!! So glad we didn't give up after that horrible and scary first experience.

Funny, my immediate thought as well....TOO GROSS! Watching a guy doing pushups inside the camp restroom, but the restroom is just an open hole in the ground where much more often than not someone pees/poops but misses the hole... by a LOT... drip, drip, splat! Now in true military form I see that his lips did 'touch' the black water 'spillway' just ever so slightly... yuck!

We've done the Alaska trip...twice now! The first was up to, and along the Dempster highway up to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, then over to Alaska and the many locations there...of which you never seem to have enough time for. A vehicle ferry ride, from Whittier to Valdez, where we saw chunks coming off the glaciers splashing into the ocean that where the size of houses! Alaska has so much to see, it would be difficult to see it all in one trip! Denali has always been a hit for many, but our second trip (2 years ago) was a bit of a delusion in comparison to our trip over 25 years ago, where back then you could drive the Denali park road in....where you now all have to pack in on old school buses. We saw herds of Caribou, Grizzly bears chasing/playing on a hillside not far from our vehicle, moose and deer crossing in front of us, as well as other critters. The scenery is breathtaking, the fishing is superb in the oceanside locations while on a tour, whale watching if your interested....and in Seward, while parked with our rig right on the oceanside...we experienced our very first earthquake! Only lasted 10-15 seconds, but had us wondering 'who' was shaking our rig like that for sure! :) As I say, we've been twice, and I again...look forward to our next trip where as it's even better than you hear from others, when going via RV, as Alaska cruises may be nice, but you truly don't get the 'Alaska experience' unless you are hitting the many small towns/locations, hearing the history and meeting the people!

I agree My wife and I were tent camping 20+ yrs ago. Beautiful site right on river tent and canopy all setup. Then the deluge began...we ended up sleeping with 3 full size dogs in our pickup with cap. The tent and canopy all washed downstream. We look back and laugh...learned not to sleep so close to river.

We're renovating our '89 Holiday Rambler for our family of 5, with four kids under 5 😁, for full timing. From what I've seen is prepping, planning, and having a backup is a must. Maybe, you guys should invest in a small generator for those times the batteries run low.

Wow! What an adventure. Yes traveling in an RV with kids is not easy. Lots of things to prepare before leaving to a BLM land. I guess water is important and when to fill up the tank. I’ll remember that when we decide to go boon-docking. We live and learn from experience. You handle all the ups and downs really well I am sure, even though u don’t show when you are wanting to strangle each other. One thing I learned from the military was: Things don’t always go according to plan so just roll with it and adjust accordingly. Thanks for all the great tips and the cooking advice was great. Looking forward to the new go pro video footage angles too. Enjoyed the video!! Happy and Safe Travels😃!!

I absolutely love your videos! We are newbies and this weekend was our first time in the rv. Set up took a long time. We found out one of the propane hoses was cracked, so we had no gas to cook and we couldn't use the heat. We were cold and kinda hungry all night. To top it off we woke up to rain! We still were able to have a good time and we meet a great couple who helped us figure out how to use our rv. We are looking forward to more adventures! Happy rving!

Hi guys we were just up at Pine Flat campground last week in our 30ft travel trailer (we're full timers also). Pine Flat is just about 5 miles north of slide rock. Anyway, at the north end of the camp ground on the west side of the road 89A is a spring water facet with running water 24/7 (really fresh water). The faucet doesn't have a way to connect a hose, but we use the 6 gallon water jugs from Walmart. They work great for carrying extra water.

We know what you mean when things don’t go as planned. First trip to Santa Cruz Redwood RV resort with our Imagine trailer and we get rear ended just 50 miles from home, just outside of Barstow, CA.., by a kid who fell asleep on the wheel. Hits us going 79 miles an hour while we were going 55. Totally ruined our trip. But after disabling our trailer and making us think it wasn’t meant to be for us to take this trip, the next day we just booked a cabin and drove up to Felton to hang out with friends at the rv resort we were suppose to stay in. Add insult to injury? Well, there was our exact trailer model 2800BH Imagine a couple sites over from our friends’ spot and all we thought was....”Of course!”

I see siblings who are each other's friend, and I see a husband & wife who respect and love each other's company! The way you 2 look at each other with love is very sweet, and how you all look at the bright side in situations that would sometimes make people scream out in a fit of rage is extremely humbling! People are often put in to our lives for many different reasons, and I am so happy that you were put in our "KZbin lives" because you and your family are an absolute joy to watch! Ive watched all of your videos, and they have been a big motivation to purchase our first Travel Trailer and get out, even as just weekend warriors. This weekend was our first trip, and it rained most of saturday and then snowed sunday morning, keeping us inside a lot, but took advantage of the dry saturday morning to climb Buttermilk Falls in the Finger Lakes in New York, and had a blast. Thank you guys so much.

I LOVE the hat! It looks like one of those Outback Australian hats. So cool. What can I say - a less than perfect time with your camper on BLM land beats ANY day for a lot of us stuck in the city, lol. You do make it all look good ;-)) The boys are hilarious.

That's when the $60 are well spent!! Don't you guys worry about leaving the trailer alone for that many hours, while you explore the city's attractions? Planning for my Europe trip, I've seen a few videos where people just go boondocking and leave their RVs in remote or rest areas for the whole day, without any security... I wouldn't be comfortable doing that from the morning up to the night. Most RV parks in Europe are cheap, around or less than 20 Euros. Found some for 8 and 10 Euros in Romania and Bulgaria. But the actual places where I'll stay will be decided when I get there. It won't be easy to find RV parks in Europe that accept a 39' Class A.

So I gotta tell ya.... My husband and I are/were? tent campers. A few years ago, we got the "last site available" and it turned out to be our favorite site at our favorite State Park. Well, it's right next to the "dump station". As tent campers, we never "dumped" and we camp through Monday :) So..... We watched the "mass exodus" from the park and all these campers would dump. Some didn't know what they were doing, some were the "Pros" but we never saw anybody doing push ups. LOL!! We have a small camper now. We will be the folks with the question mark above our heads. NOT! We are watching you!! Loving the videos.

I really wanted to purchase a shirt but I can’t since it is a dark color. I have a medical condition in which I get sick if I get overly hot. Since we camp in the summer, that color will not work. ☹️

Pushups at the dump station.????. No , no, no.... you have come so far. You now have the 50 gallon water bladder on your gear list. So I’m guessing you don’t buy water 2 gallons at a time, much, anymore!!!!

Keep the hat...looks good. You can't go by what kids say..they think everything parents/adults do is weird!!!! Hat looks good!!! Nomatic fanatic (Eric) has cams on his rig & some crazy guy goes flying by a line of people (Eric included) driving at an outrageously high speed, in a very dangerous manner putting everyone at risk & l might add driving a class A rig. Everyone stopped to recover from the incident & called the police. Eric had views of the whole incident on film. The police were in awe & grateful! l don't remember the details, but his video sure does! GOTCHA (HIM)!!!! You all are lookin good!!! LOL Judie

My cousin bought my mom and me $25 anniversary tickets on Southwest, to come see her in Phoenix, and we flew out there in October 1996. We didn't get to go to the Grand Canyon because of her daughter's heath, but one Saturday, she did drive us up to Sedona for the day, and we did go to Tlaquepaque before we drove Oak Creek Canyon, almost to Flagstaff and back. All of which is to say, her husband said the meaning of the name was: "if you're going there, don't forget tlaqueyourpoquets!"

Trish- we are weekend campers (family of 4). My husband and 2 boys ages 9 & 10 and such picky eaters. Mostly meat and potatoes type. I’m done with hamburgers and hotdogs! Do you have a suggestion for a good meal plan? From one mom to another...help!!!

No trips go as we imagine, the reason to go travel. (Not a boring activity). One (of the several), camp spot stays, was next to the ocean during the cold weather days. Was a new RV, had not tested the built-in propane heater properly / completely, the cheapest wall thermostat was way out of adjustment with the high low settings, (temp. swing setting). At two AM; was not the time to work on that trouble, but that night temp. setting was either 50 or 80 degrees… The worst temp. regulation I ever experienced. Issue was completely unexpected or thought about to check in advance… (Another new RV check-off list entry). The quick turn on and feel some heat test, was not sufficient to reveal this trouble in advance of the trip. Missed that test. 🙃
