I'm gay and my mom and I used to argue alot and I acted out, she eventually sent me away at 15 and I definitely flourished....and Angela is so right, once he has to get out there and do for his self he will definitely realize the sacrifices you have made to raise him...Today at 33 my mom and I have a Great relationship and I cry sometimes thinking about how much she did for my sister and I...just recently I told her she is a great mom and I wouldn't except another mother besides. I told her if god allowed me to do this life over but had a choice of a mother, I would still choose her...she's my ride or die...and she DID kick me out. But she never left my side.

It’s deeper than that. It seems that the mother literally despises her child because she’s transgender, and will do anything to gaslight how she feels even when not related to the situation. It’s like her own child’s existence bothers her because of their lifestyle. That is the problem.

Thank you. Tons of use in the Blk Community were raised on survival, trauma, and oppressiveness delivery and thought it was love if maintenance like food and shelter being provided. Scripture says “Honor thy parents” and we hear that all the time but it also says “parents to not provoke kids to anger.” “Your child” is still a human and you don’t own them to the point you can talk to them anyway at anytime then back with “well you can leave”...because of the responsibilities you have as a parent based off your decision to have a child. That’s tyranny.

This attitude of 'I'm the parent so you have no right to express an opinion, defend your feelings, exert any kind of agency or I'm calling it disrespect' - it's toxic. If your solution is for your kid to get their own house, you can bet you're not going to be seeing them once they do. It's completely ego-driven. And it amazes me that full grown, ostensibly intelligent adults see their child act out or even speak with frustration in their voice and they don't think to look at themselves and wonder if they might have something to do with it.

Furthermore, whether Angela is "unteachable" or not, the issue is about HER SON who fails to do what he's told and abide by rules IN HER HOUSE. He do need to respect his mother but respect doesn’t mean your right and yes he is 19 which means he’s legal and he’s a young adult now still a baby but a young adult....Respect goes both ways💯I’m a teacher a child has to respect their parent and so does a parent need to respect their child as well💯There’s different levels of respect parent to child child to parent but none the less it goes both ways.....As a mom IMO there is nothing nurturing about her where is the nurturing side to start from ground level and work through the hostility....Me and my mom went through a lot but we always know how to have a conversation come back and say where we BOTH were wrong or what we didn’t like.....The problem with Angela that I have is she thinks she’s above the conversation her and her son need to have.....2 words for Angela Humble Yourself💯As we can see on Jason Lee show she’s Deff out of line💯

Here afterthe dr phil episode. This comment section is so annoying. Yall talk like your own child that you selfishly brought into this world is your slave/property. ‘You cant have opinions if you still live under my roof’ ‘... then move out’ ‘who pays the bills’ I also hate my mom when she orders me to clean my room disrespectfully. Act like i owe her my life for living under her roof. sometimes children don't do things right because they have problems of their own. They are children y’all.. they dont know what’s going on. If you know your child well you can definitely tell the difference between a child being disrespectful to you or if they are not feeling well. For example, every time I delay locking the fence of my house, my parents scold me loudly. But when they are the one who delay to locking the fence, I have no right to reprimand them. why? Why do parents act like they are the authoritarian rulers of their child’s life? Family is a place where you can be your raw self. a place where you grow and learn to be a better human being. not a place where whoever pays the bills is the authorized one. where is unconditional love? every child is different, and every parent must know and understand their child so that a good relationship can be established. cookie cutter approach to children is useless. Maybe angela kind of parenting style works for you, but not for others. Also, parents and children can deal with each other equally. I am a strong believer that children are a reflection of their parents. Children do not belong to their parents. Of course, children should respect and love their parents who raise and nurture them. Of course we understand how parents have sacrificed so much for their children's well being. Of course there are boundaries that must exist between parents and children. but that doesn't mean you are the boss of your kids. if your parents shutting down your spirit, making you feel miserable, then you have the right to stand up for yourself. This is my pov as a child who also grew up with parents similar to angela and you have the right to feel the opposite way. But before you judge how someone behave, all you have to do is to respect other’s opinion and don't try to teach others/tell others what to do without knowing their circumstances.

First of all, the mother has narcissistic tendencies. Secondly, any "seasoned" therapist would tell a parent NOT to compare their children as it disrupts the family system and creates detrimental roles (i.e. scapegoat, golden child, etc). The mother has issues with her son's sexuality and this is evident out of the gate.

All she said was he was different. I don’t think any parentwith multiple children would denounce each child’s individuality. It’s not to say you love one more than the other. It just means you love each one enough to know they have different personalities and you have to raise them accordingly.
