Just ran across this in a piano arrangement, never heard it, but as a thankful Methodist I am glad to encounter this one! Thank you, Charles Wesley and the fine musicians who made this recording!

this hymn was written on Tyneside, very much a mining community. As Charles looked up the Tyne valley at evening tide, he looked upon the fires that burned among the mining communities and his prayer for these mining people he was soon to preach the gospel to, would catch the flame of God's grace and salvation, which many did of course. Most villages in the area began to worship the Lord and sing his praise. May the word swiftly run again and be mighty to prevail in these hideously sinful days.

The truth needs a hearing again if we are to realize the manifest blessing of God upon our witness. It may not be palatable for this wicked and perverse generation, but we will be the loser if you continue to marginalize it.

As an English Methodist I was appalled at the rushed singing. Please sing with reverence. ARFON (major) is a WELSH tune . Not to be rushed.
