@@frustratedempl0yee YES Deep Space Visual Astronomy is possible using a low magnification 30 and 40mm eyepiece. Option No. 2 is a Maksutov Cassegrain Telescope. They are not very good for Deep Space Observation. Option No. 3 is good for both Planatery and Deep Space observation. Deep Space Astrophotography requires a GoTo Mount. GoTo Mounts have continuous precision tracking. Deep Space Photography involves long exposure photographs and a Goto Mount or a precision tracker is a MUST along with a DSLR Camera or a Deep Space Astro Cam.

In the 12" Category, there are only 2 options. 1. GSO 12" Nightwatch or Professional DOB 2. Explore Scientific 12" Truss Tube Dobsonian Telescope. Both are the same in Optical Quality. If Portability is not an issue then GSO would be more economical. If Portability is a problem then Explore Scientific is the best option. It can completely collapse. SCT or refractor with same aperture of 6" or 152MM, which should be best one amongst 2 for visual .

Refractors will have better visual but 1. It's difficult to get an 6 inch refractor, they are rare and very very expensive. Refractors will have chromatic aberration as well. The refractor that size will be extremely heavy and cumbersome. SCT is compact thus becomes grab and go , most 6 inch sct comes on alt az goto mount and are economical if you compare with a 6 inch refractor. If you want bang for the buck go for a 8 inch dob , it's a jack of all trades. It's not heavy and has 76 % more light grabbing capacity than a 6 inch. Portable enough as a grab and go and is very economical. 7

Hi. For Visual Astronomy, a 152mm Refractor will do wonders compared to a 6" SCT. You wont get Chromatic Abberation at low power. For Deep Space Objects, you will only use Low Power Eyepieces. For Planetary you will need high power eyepieces which will create minor chromatic aberration. SCT Telescpes are not at all good for Deep Sky Visual Astronomy due to their excessive long focal length.
