I served 8 years enlisted in the Navy. I would say that if he was enlisted at my command we probably would have just given him a warning not to do it again. At the most he would have faced a reduction in rank and perhaps a months pay. However he is an officer. So it looks like the Navy expects more from their officers. I am also thinking that he had some other negative items on his record and probably low job evaluations. No doubt the Navy was just waiting for him to slip up!

On the face of it, he was guilty as charged. But this is not something that should ever have resulted in a formal charge. He should just have been given a bollocking. The damage to his career is probably terminal anyway. Were I his subordinate, he would definitely have lost some respect in my eyes and his lack of self awareness is staggering.

Court Marshall for what? He was listening to music. He didn't say a word.

Flipping the bird, and in general bringing dishonor to the uniform. Conduct unbecoming an officer covers a wide territory. As a retired Naval Officer, we were held to account for things that happen while not in uniform as well as while wearing it. Plus, this looks like he is in his office, which means on duty. Was he using government equipment? Gov't has banned TikTok since the Chi-Coms control it. Lastly, if he didn't see the issue with making such a video, it calls into question his judgment, and loss of confidence is a reason to remove someone from their post. Also, he should be court-martialed for his choice of music!

@@timp21117 You sound like you should apply for a job in Washington DC where they are always Hiring for the positions of Dictators, Socialist, Oppressors, Crimes Against Humanity Coordinator...etc
@timp21117Ай бұрын
@@JohnRodriguez-zn4gf Thank you for the referrals! I would consider those positions, but most of those jobs would be a demotion from my current work. I already work in DC, doing something much more important than being a Dictator, Socialist, Oppressor, or CAH Coordinator. And while those jobs sound fun, they all would go against the oath I took as a Naval Officer (oaths don't expire upon retirement) as well as my personal libertarian leanings. I have no idea where you got the idea that I was an 'oppressor' from my post. I posted my response as an expert on the conduct of military officers. My 23 years of service as a Naval Officer and my thousands of interactions with other officers from Ensigns up to four star admirals and generals should give me some credibility in that area! This Lieutenant Commander is a Grade A moron. He thought it was OK to put on his uniform - with his name visible - record this idiotic video, and put it out where the world and his leadership were surely going to see it... That alone means that he has very questionable judgment and should not be trusted with government personnel, funds, or equipment. PERIOD! Other than wishing people happy birthday, posting work-related items on LinkedIn, or posting pet pics, social media is a minefield best to be avoided if you are a professional. Since you obviously never served, I will give you an example that is well-known in the Navy. A ship captain is asleep in his bunk in the wee hours of the morning and the Officer of the Deck (OOD) on watch on the bridge runs the ship aground. The captain will be relieved for a 'loss of confidence' in his ability to command. You would think the whole, 'asleep at the time' defense would count, but in general it doesn't. The Captain observed his OOD in action while on watch, drilled him on various scenarios, signed off on his Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) designation, and signed a letter stating that the young officer is fully qualified to serve as OOD underway. The loss of confidence comes from the CO signing off on the young OOD's qualifications and entrusting him with the lives and safety of everyone aboard as well as billions of dollars in government ship and weaponry. Obviously, that trust was misplaced...
