There are dozens of dice tower projects on the internet.
What sets mine apart is the see through front panel. I decided that I wanted to be able to WATCH the dice tumble down inside, so I used a piece of thin plexiglass for the front.
As well I designed the tower to nest inside of the tray into which the dice tumble, so that the project can be neatly stored away when not in use.
The project is made out of contrasting Black Cherry and Hard Maple hardwood. I love the colour combination in these woods.
Thanks for watching!

I showed this video to my friend and his son who are avid D&D gamers and they really liked your design. They liked how it can be closed into a compact size for traveling and seeing the dice travel down. Looks like we have a weekend project lined up!

Thanks for posting this video. I am very curious about the sled (insert?) that you have on your planer. Did you add this to reduce snipe? I noticed it is not very long, I normally see sleds that span 4-6 feet for this planer. How has your experience been so far?
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 5 жыл бұрын
The sled does help a bit to reduce snipe. I don't have a huge issue with snipe. I got the idea from Jay Bates (Jay's Custom Creations) youtube channel

Is that Wandel's screw-advance jig? I've been trying to figure out which design I want to go with, Wandel's or Heisz's. Do you find it overly complex and big for most projects? Or was it worth it?
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 7 жыл бұрын
I think it works great. John Heisz' jig was not around when I made this one so I did not have to make that decision.
@cameronl62
@cameronl62 7 жыл бұрын
Wordsnwood (Art Mulder) I like John's version but it requires very precise kerf width of 1/8 of an inch. it looks like yours can take into account different krferf widths by adjusting how far you turn the gear. that seems like it would be more convenient rather than hunting for the just the right saw blade.
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 7 жыл бұрын
Did Matthias pay you to leave that comment? ;-)
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 7 жыл бұрын
Just seems that there's a lot to know when it comes to which gear to use, how many turns, etc. I see Mathias sticking tape to mark certain spots and I just know that I'd screw it up. I'm sure once I learn it that it'd be fine. John's appealed to be mainly because of the size and ease of use. My current jig only allows for 1/8th kerf fingers and that's been ok for the while but I'm toying with the idea of making one of the bigger ones. Thanks, Art!

Amazing project! I did mine based on your idea of the curved cut in the lower box, but I didn't have a plexi glass so I did a regular dice tower. It was my first woodworking project and I'm pretty proud of it! May I ask why you used the blue tape on the miter saw hole?
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 7 жыл бұрын
Guz Forster to make it more of a zero-clearance situation, which gives a cleaner cut. I don't have the best blade there, so it would have worked better on my Table saw i think.

the ramps need to be a little more grippy. they're not really grabbing the dice and making them tumble around like they should. a couple blasts of plastidip spray, or even some of that thing, neoprene craft foam would certainly do the trick.

It's just plane paper printed from a laser printer. John Heisz has an article that explains it in detail: www.ibuildit.ca/Workshop%20Projects/Shop%20Tricks/tricks-13.html

You should do a test: take one die and drop it through 60 times. If you get 10 instances of each side, it's random.
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 7 жыл бұрын
Feel free to do that. I think I will trust that this is at least as random as rolling them out of your hands. After all, your method only tests one die. What if that die is wrong? Better repeat with many die. And what about testing multiple people? And left hand vs right hand? Yeah, sorry, I don't have the funding or time for a true double blind peer reviewed scientific study... :-)
