I believe that their pricing on their highest tier stuff is spot on not to say your friend in woodworking is wrong but gabon ebony (which I believe is their most expensive) is upwards of 100$ per board foot as it is an endangered wood and their are hefty prices to import. If they make their cuts right every time each piece (tower tray and vault) will probably use 1 bf for each item. Im estimating as I dont have exact dimensions on each piece. That's a solid 300 and maybe some more if they screw up. I looked up rare earth magnets and it seems they go 5 bucks a pop dont know how many are used. Then labor for each piece. The workers there probably have more experience than me but I made one out of oak and it took me like three days working 3-4 hrs after work each day they probably aren't getting minimum wage and they also put part of your payment toward a fund for endangered species. Then leave some room for profit.

You may absolutely be right on that. It's a little jaw dropping for me, and I imagine their profit margin must be pretty good on the higher tier woods, but that's totally their prerogative. At the lower prices, I actually think their prices are quite reasonable. For a 75 dollar oak dice tower, given the labor involved, it seems like a good deal. Anyway, you make a good argument for the higher tier woods being priced fairly. I honestly don't know.

I also wanted to throw in that some woods are much more difficult to work with than others. It could be easier to screw up with more exotic woods, etc.

great review, appreciate the honesty. I work in wood (as a hobbiest) and can confirm, some woods are EXTREMELY expensive. I make custom knives, and the scales (handles) alone can be well over 100$. you're talking 2 pieces that measure 1/2" by 1.5" x 5". and as a hand crafter, I agree with you, you don't find craftsman all to often, and people tend to forget the quality and care that goes into making something, one piece at a time. great video, (new sub)

@Nipha Ahtlantashah I'm a hobby grade woodworker as well and I agree with you on several points. The wood used can be crazy expensive and a hand crafted "one off" is going to be a lot more expensive than building a dozen of them (same concept as a cutting board). I'm sure you had the same reaction to the fit and finish issues I did. Using exotic wood at that price it should be rock solid craftmanship. The magnet thing bothers me a bit too even though it was cool. You could achieve the same results with traditional woodworking joints and slots and at that price point I would expect some Paul Sellers quality joints.

This product is outside my price range for something that is simply nice to have. If I won the lottery and had money to burn or invest in things that I want to support, I would definitely purchase something like this dice tower. It looks very cool and well made. Thank you for the video! I would never even seen it without your video.

A woodworker here (but not to that level): I think if you put a small piece of brown felt (they sell them to stick to the bottom of things to keep from scratching tables) it will even out that tilt you were taking about. It shouldn't impact the visual or dice rolling if you put them under where the ramps go. Thank you for the video, very informative and comprehensive. I clicked on it because I'm interested in building one myself.

Well, I realised that the uneveness issue happened to mine too, so I e-mailed them. I paid (and well) for the Dice Tower and received a new one complete set some hours ago, after I sent the "faulty" one. Same problem. Vault's height is bigger than the tower's pieces altogether. I got refund for my shipping. No complaints. But, as I'm from Spain I had to pay for taxes and they are quite high (not the tax itself, but the "procedures" at border post). I'm smashed. I have the tower, it has it's "uneveness issue", I paid quite a bit (Padauk it's not a cheap wood, precisely), but if I go ahead returning again, I'll be dealing with taxes once more, so the cost increases. Increases A LOT. Wyrmwood has been EXCELSIOR during all the process, but I'm afraid I cannot take more risks. It becomes more expensive than it is, and I think it IS expensive. Deserved? Yes, but expensive taking in count I'm overseas. It's sad that the Craftsman promise makes not the full way to this side of the world :(

I received a tower system last week and mine was misaligned when disassembled for storage as well. I emailed their customer service and got a prompt reply asking me to return the system and providing a shipping label. Fingers crossed they're able to provide one that sits flush / flat when stored.

Good point: the dice tray walls make it annoyingly hard to actually see the dice. I feel like that would bug me so much that I would stop using it. Would be cool to hear how much you've ended up using this in the past few years.

Yes, some woods can be MUCH more expensive for any number of reasons, mainly rarity and accessibility. Not that many people can appreciate the differences and even fewer are gamers. I doubt they sell very many of the high end sets. Good honest review tho, I was one who instantly laughed at the price but then I looked at my craft table and said, "I can make one of those" 😆.

I just purchased my first wyrmwood dice tray and yes it's expensive. but when you first start of drawing Maps what did you charge was it what you charge today or was it much cheaper because you're were not an expert back then.

You're not paying for raw materials, you're paying for the intellectual property of the product's development, and you are also paying for the skills of the craftsmen. As an added bonus, you are getting an iron clad warranty on a product. As a craftsman, I hear often, "That's expensive, I could make that for $x.xx " My response is usually, "Perhaps. Why don't you then?"
@alabaster79584 жыл бұрын
Jarl Seamus the cherry tower is $95 and the macassar ebony is $415 so depending on the model the majority of the price tag is paying for raw materials

Great design. But. Over priced to the point of pretentious. Ill stick to the ones I've made over the years reverse engineering the design. Too many small fuck ups to be 'Fine Craftsmanship'. And at that price tag. Nah man, this is the same as buying a bathrug out of a Gumps Catalog."Isn't Gumps Bankrupt now?" Yes.
