Seed is a digital multi-effects pedal with neural modeling at its’ heart. It features Reverb, Delay, and Tremolo to further modify your sound. A five minute reversible looper rounds out this pedalboard-in-a-box for practice, performance, and musical experimentation. Currently in development, with small numbers being built to test or purchase locally.

I always built pedals when I was a kid. Extremely fun and rewarding.

Lucky enough to be able to try this out today. It is amazing. It would be the perfect centerpiece to a smallboard. So versatile and easy to use.

First: awesome job. I built one today and rearranged the models in all_model_data_gru9_4count.h (I like that Bassman!) Second: then I noticed the isItEaster(int m) function in seed.cpp. I don't know the DaisySP library yet, and I admit I am being lazy here after staring at the code for all of 5 minutes ... 😁 so c'mon, Keith! How do we get to the easter egg (which appears to be access to models beyond the first 4)? I can see it has something to do with the Level control and the first 2 switches ... but I gave up after a whole 2 minutes of button mashing and knob turning. (Like I said, I'm lazy.) Truly a great contribution to the the community and I am looking forward to studying it more. Your work is much appreciated!

1. Turn Level control all the way down 2. Flip the left model select switch (Terrarium switch 1) four times from it's current position (up/down/up/down, or down/up/down/up) 3. Do the same thing for the right model select switch (Terrarium switch 2)

What a beautiful pedal with some amazing possibilities. From a bass player, have you had a chance to try it with a bass guitar? Thank you very much for making this, looking forward to seeing where you go next! Cheers

Thank you! I haven’t tried it with bass but I should soon. I do have a few bass amp models so it would be fun to make a bass edition of the pedal.

Any plans to share the source like you have with other models in the past?

No immediate plans to open source this one, gotta keep something for myself ;) I will say that I’m not doing anything new with the way I’m using Ai here, it’s the same as the Neural Seed code with the other effects added.

This is truly amazing work! I'm amazed how far the technology of neural networks came and that it can be used for guitar applications! 1 question tho: How are you recording this? Does this pedal output a complete signal with an Impulse response or could you send the signal out of the pedal, to a power amp and into an actual cab?

The way I recorded this video is this: guitar into pedal into focusrite 2i2 audio interface, into Reaper DAW where I added Pulse IR plugin with Bogren Digital IRs. Normally when I’m using the pedal I plug straight into my Fender Blues Jr at clean settings. So yes, the amp you use will color the tone of the amp models somewhat. I guess if you can go directly from the pedal into the power section of your amp that would give a technically more accurate representation of the model. My mic’d amp recording setup is less than optimal, and very loud, which is why I usually do direct into the audio interface with IRs for these demo videos. Good question!

@@GuitarML Thank you for the reply, it cleared up a lot 😁. Another question if I may ask: I assume you programmed all of this in C++? I don't have any knowledge in C++ (other than some watched tutorials) but I did do some much simpler languages in school. How much of C++ do you actually need to know in order to take on a project like this? Because it's kind of tempting me but I am a complete beginner when it comes to c++ (or pretty much any other language except arduino xD)

Yes, it’s all written in c++ and uses electro smith’s libdaisy framework. My personal opinion with programming is that you shouldn’t let not knowing a particular language dissuade you, if you understand basic programming concepts you can always Google how to do it in a certain language or use the many examples on GitHub as a starting point (or chatGPT write it? Ha). I started using matlab on school, then Python and most recently (past 4 years) c++. There are concepts particular to audio DSP that would be more important than memorizing language syntax, and there’s a lot of free resources available. I used The Audio Programmer channel a lot getting started, and they have a really helpful community that’s happy to answer any questions along the way.
