I saw those tongs in a catalogue recently. Since I have the material, I plan to make tongs for each size of seed starting tray I have.

I enjoy watching your channel. Love this series. Thanks for walking us those all these processes. I have learned so much from your channel. First year in many, many years of growing veggies. Been at least 20 years since I’ve done gardening. Past 2 years I have been putting my hands back into flowers and this year I’m moving on to veggies. I forgot how rewarding growing can make your soul feel. Thanks again for all your hard work and sharing all your knowledge. I appreciate you!

I wish I would have grown a couple of the perennials inside as the seed was so small and I don’t see them yet in winter sow. I’m so distraught just thinking if the winter sow will make it as we had 90*F all last week and Sunday it rained and dove to low 30s in about 24 hours. I had most things uncovered because they were cooking and yesterday I was scrambling in the very cold rain to cover everything up. I knew rain was coming and wanted the onions and winter sow to get rain as we were high winds and high fire-so dry and now as of Sunday to Monday we have 6” of snow and still flurries. I’m concerned about buds freezing as we just broke dormancy a couple days ago. They say maybe another blast of snow this weekend. I’m wore out and we’ve only just begun spring. It’s the strangest weather swing I’ve ever experienced as a native in WI. This is the first year I’ve ever had aphids inside. I found a couple of lady bugs and they did a great job, but they got moved out to greenhouse this past week and the peppers inside are covered in aphids. Neem oil doesn’t do much. I will try to spray them off, but it’s not easy to do with seedlings. Any ideas are appreciated!😊 Hope this weather improves and calms down as I don’t know how much the plants and myself can take. I mean 90s to inches of heavy snow is not easy to work with. I tried to lightly cover up garlic and hooped onions. I think I killed some varieties of garlic because all I had last year was marsh hay for some areas and I think it smothered the garlic as I don’t see them.😕. Others look great, but those didn’t have hay. 😅I’m looking at your six celery and I’m still wondering why I ended up with 2 flats and they are 8” high. Have no idea what I was thinking, but I almost planted them last week except it was too dry, hot and windy and we had high fire where many acres burned to all this snow today. I’ve run out of room in the GH and just started a week ago on tomatoes and peppers. Still have to get brassicas going. I’m glad I held the reins on planting potatoes because they would have been up and froze. I’m waiting til either Earth Day or Arbor Day. They say maybe snow this weekend yet. We’ve always had swings in spring, but this swing is extreme. I seen a 2015 video of your garden with Joe. Nice job! I also spotted artichokes and because of you I still have them started in GH and can’t wait to plant out. Thanks for all you do!

Hi! I'm local to you and I enjoy yiur videos so much! I stopped growing cosmos because there was so much green for so few flowers. I had no idea they need to be pinched back! I had never even heard it was supposed to be done. I will be trying again with cosmos now! Thank you for sharing!

You are now one of my FAVORITE gardening KZbinrs! Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information! I have a question: I put some pea seeds in moist paper towels to germinate while on a trip. They sprouted very quickly and, since I'm not home yet, I wonder what to do with them. I can plant them in Solo cups, but I don't know how deep to plant them. Some of them have roots, a few have started to grow tiny leaves. Do I put the root going downward and place the "seed" about half an inch down? What if they have started growing leaves? Thank you so much, in case you get the time to answer this!
@SusansInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi, Julie. Thanks so much for your very kind comments! Re: the pea seeds, I always hate to waste anything so I would go ahead and plant them outdoors with the root going downward and the seed about 1" deep.

Years ago, I worked in a greenhouse where repotting was done. When it came to removing the plants from the cells, as you have there, we just squeezed each cell and the soil came right out along with the plant. I still do it this way. If the the plants are small, of course better care needs to be taken. I hope this helps.

Yes, I completely agree. I just wanted to cover different options since the seedlings don't always cooperate!

Does your husband pinch back his peppers?? They seem really short, yet sturdy.
@SusansInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
He doesn't pinch them back at all. He doesn't feel we have a long enough growing season to do a lot of pinching back and waiting for them to grow more. I agree that the pepper plants look great!
@dustyflats3832 Жыл бұрын
@@SusansInTheGarden I tried it last year on a couple I think one was jalapeños and they did produce more. I believe it worked well because those peppers are small and grow faster. I don’t think we would benefit on larger peppers. I’m Z5a WI.

Wonderful! I assume you're planting them out in the garden? Most root crops don't like to be transplanted, so I thought I should mention that.

Thank you for all the information Susan , I was wondering when we bring the plants back as we harden them off do we put them back under the grow lights ?😊
@SusansInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's the best way to do it. Or next to a window that let's in bright light, if the plants are getting too large.

I am getting ready to plant my Walla Walla sweets. I have the same set up regarding drip irrigation as you do, but wonder about frequency?
@SusansInTheGarden9 ай бұрын
Hi, Trudy. I would love to be able to give you a set amount of time and frequency but it all depends on your soil and drip irrigation setup. The goal is to have lightly moist soil, so you'll want to experiment a little a see how long and how frequent your watering system needs to run in order to achieve that. Early in the season, our system runs every morning for about 10 minutes. Then, as the season progresses, Bill adds a bit more time to our sprinkler timer. And when it's really hot and dry, he adds in an afternoon cycle. I hope this helps!

Susan, I am growing coleus from seed for the first time, too. Are you planting them outdoors or indoors? If outdoors, where do you recommend planting them? Thanks for all you do!
@SusansInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
I'm going to grow them outdoors, once the danger of frost has passed. I might grow some of them in a container on my (north-facing) front porch because they do really well there. However, as their name implies, they will grow in full sun as well so I'll try them in a sunny location, too!

Would you transplant sunflower seedlings deep (puting the long, leggy stem in the ground) when moving from seed pot to bigger containers?
@SusansInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
I wasn't sure so did some quick research and it sounds like you can, mainly to help it hold onto the soil better during windstorms.
