I take it that the Minnesota Midget melons did well. A couple watermelons that you may want to try are Jonosik. It is a yellow variety that produced fruit up to 12.5 pounds. It averaged four watermelons per plant. Blacktail Mountain also did well. It is a red variety that produced fruit up to 14 pounds and averaged 2 watermelons per plant.

I just found your channel and I would love to see more videos. I'm in Cheyenne Wyoming, our climates are likely pretty similar except for the lack of humidity here. I'm going to try your method with the melons. How was your success on those melons you trellised? I've not been successful with melons so far in Wyoming, the growing season is just too short and it takes the ground a long time to warm up in the Spring.
@klausy10007 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty impressed that you can grow melons in zone three, I gave up on them years ago in zone 6B. I have a new grow light stand coming in the mail, I really wanted to switch to T5 bulbs. I can't wait to start sowing seeds. I might have a go at producing micro greens once I'm done with tomatoes 🍅, that way my new light stand will only take about 500 years to pay for itself😀. Take care Klaus

REQUEST: another request is also to do with potatoes. Some people say that you should cut the potatoes so that it has one eye per seed planted while others say that you should plant the entire potato seed without cutting it into pieces. Can you also do a comparison and see which one yields better results please. Thanks again!
@08dario087 жыл бұрын
Can you make a video of Seed blocking vs seed trays? Also can you also test certain seedling soil mixes? Leaf mould, vermicastings, biochar vs more unsustainable peat, vermiculite & green sand. Great videos! i hope you return!
@reembarakzai9907 жыл бұрын
REQUEST: some people say that as you grow potatoes you are suppose to dig the potatoes deep then keep adding soil as it grows. The theory is that it will grow more potatoes this way but another well respected gardener said that this technique is a myth. Can you do a comparison between growing a potato by putting the seed potato deep and leaving it versus putting the seed potato deep then continue to add soil as it grows. See if there is any difference in the yields. Thanks!! great video

I noticed you ordered some seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Do you know about Fedco Seeds in Maine? They specialize in cultivars - especially heirlooms - that do well in northern climates. I like them because they publish the seed sources, because they have a great variety of seeds, and because their seeds have a reputation for high germination rates. I am not affiliated with them, I just like them.

Two questions: 1) Does anyone know what "Zone 3" refers to? It's obviously a geographical measuring of regions, but what is it based on? 2) That look like a lot of peppers to be growing and I have seen on other such youtube videos a same abundance of pepper (but not bell pepper) plants. Do people actually use all of those peppers to make spicy foods all of the time, or is there some other reason for growing so many (non bell-pepper) peppers?
@AlbertaUrbanGarden7 жыл бұрын
Zone 3 refers to an old metric comparing average annual temperature, frost dates and a few other things. It's a useful reference point but not the only thing to rely on. I do use a fair bit of peppers with my BBQ and my son eats the fresh ones like apples. I dehydrate the rest and use them in soups and on my eggs.
