I just watch the previous video when you planted these! Thank you for including this follow up in the thread. Very helpful as I was curious how the water only media worked out. Thank you in general for having the past carnivorous plants how to, how not to, and all of the above!! You really rock! About a year ago purchased my first Venus fly trap from Walmart. They are intriguing plants. Now I have nine Venus's-flytraps ❤️ because of you they have all survived!! I ran across a small sundew, impulsively purchased it and prayed you had a video on them 🫣🥴! Luckily, you do! My one sundew, with one extra rider, has multiplied into a total of 9! Thanks to you! Also four of my Venus's-flytraps are currently trying to flower!! I remember you saying why you do not let yours flower! I live in Missouri, my soil mix is Long Fiber spagnum moss and perlite. I use the same for my sundews. My mix is soaking and I’m about to clip the flower stems off 😎! Thank you again I love love your videos!! Please do not stop posting them!!

Thanks! This video is very helpful, I just tried this with my first vft, I did it only with one leaf and rn it's on the stage where most of the leaf is black but the stem is bright red so that gives me hope it's working, your tips will surely help.

thanks for the update! Inspiring for sure. Any issues with mold/fungus? If so, how did you control for that?

How long did it take for them to take root and make seedlings? Do you put them in full sun or under artificial light? What type of mix is that? Can I just use a sphagnum mix?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Hi! They took 2 to 2.5 months to root. I placed them un LED 6500K lights. And used a mixture of peat moss and perlite.
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
The proportion of peat and perlite is not critical. Sphagnum moss is suitable too.

How did you water them? Did you just mist them. ?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
I watered them from the top at first. Once they were out of the bags, I used the tray method. I also misted them often.

Do you need to give the pullings lighting?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Yes, just like a plant. I grow them in the same setup
@Jesus-eg3yb3 жыл бұрын
What time in the year did you do leaf pulling?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Late winter/early spring, when it is time to repot. Or, when I buy them and they are already bare root.

So basically, you should treat the propagated leaves like you were trying to grow them if they were seedlings?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
You got it. That's a good way to explain it!

Great video. When the shoots appear, because the traps are so small, do you recommend feeding ants or something or do you not need to feed them until they are adult size? Do they get nutrients from the soil before they are adults?
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Good question! You can feed them, but there is no critical need. All vfts get their nutrients through photosynthesis. The bugs are just an extra boost.

I have bought 2 vft seedlings ... They are not growing so well.. Will they survive during dormancy .. What should I do to keep them alive during dormancy
@thesecretofhappinesswithmo26283 жыл бұрын
Plz answer me
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
First, make sure you got your a solid setup, check watering, lighting, soil, etc. You could skip dormancy if you need more time to research, but you must make sure your plants go dormant next winter.

Not related to the video but my Venus flytrap ( couple of weeks old ) never shuts fully when eating,does it take a while to digest?am I feeding it wrong ( I put the mealworm in and when it shuts I rub it lightly to simulate struggle ) please tell me what I’m doing wrong.
@venusflytrapworld3 жыл бұрын
Mealworms are suitable food and the further stimulation is good. But, yes, Venus flytraps must fully close when eating and they take 1-3 weeks. I made a video if you want to double check your process kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3y9gGd7oZt3qcU
