@@CelebratingAppalachia Ever wondered why you see corn in your poop after eating anything with corn in it? Here you go: *Foods such as corn often remain partially undigested. Corn has an outer shell made of an indigestible material called cellulose. The body digests the material inside of the corn and expels the hard outer casing in the stool.* Love your videos! Keep up the great work!

Completely forgot about crowder peas. We had them back in the 40s, 50s or early 60s seasoned and cooked with smoked ham. Always serve them with biscuits, crackers, and/or freshly baked bread. Mother made Navy bean soup, black eye peas, crowder peas, potato soup, chicken soup, tomato soup, etc. every Saturday with fresh baked bread. With 11 kids and Dad, She made a lot. Always Outstanding and Good.

I'm so glad that you get to put your garden out! I know you've been dreaming about it for months and I'm happy for you to get such joy from it. I hear people say, "I wish we could go back to the simpler times". I always think, " Just come to Appalachia, we're pretty good at simple. We value faith and family. We talk and walk and do life just a little slower, but it's such a good life!" God has blessed us richly and I am so thankful! Continued prayers for Miss Cindy and your entire family.

They are so pretty and I bet you all will have many yummy meals with them. I love butter beans. They were my Mom's favorite. And black-eyed peas. I have and idea to share that might help. One night sit down and take the marker signs that you were given and go ahead and label them and wrap them with the vegetable packets. That way that part is done and you won't forget what you planted. Wish we were physically able to plant a garden. Too many health issues but thankful God is seeing us through. Praying for your family. Enjoy your videos. God Bless.

From what I heard Debbie at Brysons say some of those seeds came from the Cherokee Indians. They could been handed down from their ancestors who grew them before the white men showed up here. The Cherokees grow the three sisters -- corn, beans and pumpkins. The beans climbed the corn and being a legume put nitrogen into the soli, the pumpkins shaded out the weeds so the corn could get all the nutrients in the soil. How is the lambs quarter doing?
@CelebratingAppalachia
@CelebratingAppalachia Жыл бұрын
I thought about that to Papaw 😀 Such history!! The lambs quarters are up about an inch. I hope they spread all over the place so I can have them from now on. I aim to help them spread a little when they get bigger 😀

Your excitement about planting is palpable! I can’t wait to see what you find to be a “keeper” for future planting. Fresh peas and butter beans are consumed daily with rice here in the low country. I was raised on dried pinto beans and fresh green beans. I do love all the varieties of peas, but my go to is still pinto. I am growing Kentucky wonder, rattlesnake and Whitey Swanger greasy beans. I also planted baby bubba okra and homemade pickles cucumbers. I can vouch for the cucumbers-delicious, but the okra hasn’t produced yet. Happy gardening!

Couldn't you plant should of the peanut beans in one of your new planters? That should make them taller and easier to pick. I know how Matt feels. My Mama talked me into going with her to a U pick farm to pick sweet green peas one time. Those people had not stalked those things at all. They were vines growing across the ground. We literally had to crawl on the ground to pick them. And she had have a five gallon bucket. Bless her. She loved her some fresh vegetables. I promise you I never complained about picking butter beans again. They were way easier then those sweet peas. Lol Bless you Tipper for sharing your knowledge of gardening and canning with us. It brings back so many precious memories of helping my Mama in her garden and kitchen. She loved to provide that wonderful bounty for her family just like you.

A couple years ago, I planted some "sugar beet" seeds that were at least 42+ years old. They had been stored in a jar at a local museum since 1978. Before 1978, they had been part of a display the Grange organization had at the fair each year, so they could have been much older. They grew well. I was very surprised.

Tipper, I grew up in Florida. We had big gardens when I was young. I always remember my Granny coming out to our house and bringing her seeds for us to plant. Golly how I wish I had some of those seeds, although we can’t have a garden where we live. Just not enough sun, so I keep the local farm stands in business getting my produce to put up/can from them. Not quite like picking it yourself but always appreciate the canned goods later on. Take care. Prayers for Miss Cindy. Hope ya get all your seeds planted this week. 😊❤😊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Loved hearing all the seeds you want to plant. I was the same way when I had my big garden area. We moved 4 years ago and no garden space here. So I am growing a few things in containers.good gardening to you and Matt this season. Prayers continue for my Cindy.

This is gonna be so exciting to see y’all plant all those beans, peas, and other things. So much to can and freeze for the winter. Looking forward to it. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida 😎🦩🌞🦩😎

I am trying my hand at growing the Long Island Cheese pumpkin too! Last fall the family went up to the pumpkin patch in No. GA & my DIL got one and made pumpkin pie with it. She saved seeds and grew some in starters & gave me one to try. Like you said, it's all about family traditions, memories & sharing the love of gardening! I wish you a bountiful harvest!!!

I'm actually growing the cushaw this year because you make it sound so good. Also, honeynut, crookneck, butterdish, dark star, pattypan. It's gonna be a squash heavy year if I'm lucky.

I’m anxious to see how y’all get along with your big day of planting. Hope you have good weather. We’ve been getting rain showers often which is terrific on our new sod in the backyard.

I see a Mrs. Amerson's winter squash at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. Looks really good and doesn't seem to be spaghetti type.

Tipper you amaze me with your energy. I don’t know how you have time to cook, clean, run errands, take care of others, and full time garden and canning plus KZbin and respectfully replying to all your comments?? Where do you find the time? I’m so glad I came to your channel. I don’t get to garden but I’m sure enjoying you and Matt and the girls both gardening and cooking and all the other things you post. I am praying for Miss Cindy and for your garden to grow bountiful and for you to get some good down time with your family. God bless!
