I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

Over this past year of not having 99% of my clothing, I've learned a lot about my personal style, consumption habits, and more. Cleaning out so many of my things and giving them to a new home where they will be far more needed than in mine felt really good. I hope this inspires you to do the same in your life.

It drives me nuts any time people jump all over blind people for using words like see, look, watch etc. like they catch us doing something wrong by saying “I’ll see you later” and feel the need to point it out.

Molly, since you were talking about donating to a women's shelter, I wanted to share with you a personal experience. When my kids and I were living in a DV shelter many years ago, many of the businesses chose which woman and children they would help. The local hospital chose me and my 2 kids. They raised money to buy us gifts and we filled out wish lists. The hospital not only bought everything on my kids and my wish list, but had extra money left over. Therefore, they chose to give me a gift certificate for 125.00 for me to spend on whatever we needed. If any of you really want to bless someone and give them the best Christmas ever, please if you can afford to sponsor a family and possibly give them more than just gifts.

Molly THANK YOU for reminding everyone to donate things you would want to receive!! I am studying to become a social worker. Recently at my internship, someone donated a ton of school supplies for kids on my caseload. I went through at least 4 bags of dry rotted erasers, used pencils from the early 2000s (like covered in pics of Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zach & Cody, Lizzie Maguire, etc.), pens with no ink, and dried up paints. These are not things I would ever give to these kids, and it’s just not a helpful donation.

The way you speak about the homeless is very refreshing. My dad and I were homeless when I was in middle/highschool and so many donations were practically trash (at the Veterans shelter we stayed at for a bit). If it has holes or massive stains, it’s probably not going to go very far and honestly just reinforces the feeling that you yourself arent worth much. You just mentioned you donated to a specifically teen shelter and that really warms my heart. As much as people push that homelessness is a choice, people tend to forget the children in those positions who have 0 responsibility for the position they’re in. I appreciate you and your advocacy of not only the disability community, but other marginalized groups as well

As someone who works at a homeless fellowship and receives donations, I really appreciate your intentionality and generosity. Giving someone clothing items which they actually need or want instead of just giving them whatever is the way giving should be done. I've talked with so many people who are in sad situations and that little bit of dignity in receiving something they asked for means the world. I know the shelters you gave too are going to put those items to good use. Thank you for your heart in giving; it is intentional people like you who make the world a better place. Love you girl! 🤍

I love that Molly included a mention in this video to look at the requested donations lists for wherever you’re hoping to donate your things! As someone who volunteers at an emergency clothing closet, I can say first-hand that it’s a bummer when people donate things that might be beautiful, but not the items the clients actually need (ex: fancy high heels or pencil skirts). Always check what places are in need of, to go the extra mile before you drop off things, and if you aren’t sure, you can usually call ahead to ask about an item. ☺️ Thanks so much Molly for encouraging people to pass along their beloved items in a responsible, sustainable way (not just dumping them at whatever donation center is closest to their house, but actually doing the prep-work to get the items to the right agencies who can use them). 💚

Also a good call that many communities have “closets” for borrowing interview clothes, so some of those fancier items would be wonderfully directed to those sorts of organizations!

This is what I needed to motivate me, TBH. I'm trans and I got top surgery in May, and I have a ton of clothes I used to wear to hide my body that I don't wear and will never wear again. I need to pare things down to things I feel good in, wardrobe staples that actually reflect my style. No one needs this many hoodies.

Your speech about the pain of growth and helping others intentionally, was so wise and inspirational. I think everyone can relate in some way! I also think it's great that you have extra space - this condo is going to be your home for a long time, so you will have plenty of time to fill that space with high quality items you really love, as you mentioned. I really love that you are so thoughtful about your donations. I’ve been on the side of needing to receive donations as a child growing up and also working in a thrift store. There were times I would go through the donations received and it was literal garbage or smelled like cat pee. It was awful as a sorter and it was disheartening as someone that had once relied heavily on donations or thrift stores. Food banks are the same! So many times disappointed because it was Lima beans or canned goods you know weren’t that great. Donate what you would actually want to eat!

There’s a food/essentials donation box at my regular food store, so I frequently buy extra long life food or hygiene products to donate. I usually buy sanitary pads on offer so I can buy more as there is a huge period poverty, and everyone can use a pad, but tampons can be an issue. I can afford to buy £10 of pads so a few women who use food banks or a women’s shelter don’t go without.

“Growth is so hard!” Yes yes yes!! Since double brain injuries Feb 2020 - I too have been mired in chaos, fiasco after fiasco on top of coming to terms with being disabled in my mid 40s. And somehow this year has just been worse on so many levels. It has been “comforting” for lack of a better word, to be on the journey with you. Seeing you be so vulnerable and authentic in the face of multiple challenges has given me strength. This video in particular resonates. I have SO many clothes and other things that are connected to the “before” version of me that I am struggling to sort through. I have piles and piles and piles and I’ve been trying to process for months! You gave voice to exactly what I’ve been feeling and experiencing and I am so grateful. I feel validated, inspired and empowered. Love you Molly. I feel like you’ve become one of my best friends (I am sure you hear that often!) Thank you 🙏

Molly - thank you so much for sharing this and shedding light onto donating to local shelters. It’s never occurred to me to seek out these types of organizations and look at what they actually need. I feel like I’ve had a very self-centered view of donating things in the past just thinking about what do I not want and what is easiest for me, but you’ve really inspired me to think outside of myself and be more intentional with this process. I love your videos so much, I always learn something new.

That was seriously trippy! Molly said "Thanks for yawning" literally as I was finishing yawning! The only time I did too. it was like she saw me through the screen but then she can't really see at all now can she... She absolutely did not hear my yawn because mine are almost silent but it really stunned me and I was taken aback when Niamh started giggling too... like she was giggling at me... then I came back to reality as I realized Niamh had also yawned while filming and somehow coincidentally I synced up with her!

I live in South Africa. It's a very different thing. I have a charity I donate to often. The amazing man who runs it says to send everything as the people in the location will take everything as they wear something with a hole at home but the new stuff which is also donated they wear to town. So here we do donate it all and they are beyond grateful for it.

I love they way you donate. I'm the same way and it is because I have been on the other end of giving I never received much but what I did was great. Food was a huge need when I was a kid as well as clothes and my mom never had many clothes or good clothes and to see her thriving with good clothes now makes me so happy to see her happy and we'll put together. She's also plus size which made it even harder to find good quality clothes especially when we were less fortunate financially.

The timing on this is very relatable for me! I have had a ton of clothing in storage from when I was a variety of different sizes. Some of my clothes had those memories of what it felt like to be me right before the pandemic, when I was having a really great time with my job and my personal life. At the same time, my storage space and even part of my dresser was dedicated to these pieces which made no sense to keep. Some of them have been in storage since 2019! Last week, I let them go. :) Is my hope that the clothes that brought me joy when I was smaller bring joy to the people who need them now. It is my hope that someone finds all the positive queer and disability clothing that I've given away, and feels represented by it. It's my hope that this clothing keeps someone else warm now, instead of keeping space for a version of me that doesn't exist anymore.

Thank you for this message. As someone who has been homeless, it's really disheartening when all you have to choose from is old, outdated, very worn and often dirty clothing. Same goes for food. People might say, if you're hungry you should take anything. But I used to get so much (old) canned food that I couldn't even eat because I didn't have a can opener or a way to heat it up. I practically lived on granola bars that tasted like cardboard and crackers for awhile. People donate the most obscure, gross stuff to food banks.

I find it so interesting how hoarding is only really used when talking about poor people, or when the items hoarded have smaller conventional dollar value. Like someone who is hoarding empty glass bottles, or old cds is a hoarder, but someone who hoards expensive cars or art or designer clothes isn't a hoarder, and their hoarding is not hoarding it is collecting. Like someone who can only afford a small apartment that is full of things, hoarder, but someone who can afford a massive mansion can have rooms and rooms of their hoarded items and because they can afford more space it is more acceptable. It's almost like "hoarding" is just another way to demonise those with less privilege, either because of financial privilege or mental health privilege. All this to say I know the feeling of cleaning out your collection and I hope you feel refreshed and ready to enjoy the evolution of the new Molly look and wardrobe.

Great video. As a disabled woman I loved the video. Yes I think the people in shelters deserve new stuff because they deserve their dignity and they deserve respect. Yes I think the disabled is not a dirty word.
