I love how lived-in that area is. Not the sterile aesthetic of Seoul. Not as pretty as some other paths, but this is real life. Thank you for taking us along. And yes, the weight of the reality of North Korea.

It's a really interesting place eh @Mudskipper9876! And thanks so much! You're so right about how beautiful the countryside areas in Korea can be. They all have this personality to them where nothing is made perfectly, and a lot of the older people living there still follow the old traditions, including sometimes burning coal to produce heat.

Appreciate you risking your life on South Korea's colorful roads to bring us these videos! My local town in Ansan is doing construction on all the bike-exclusive paths, and it's driving me mad that they picked spring/summer to close the paths for construction instead of winter, where nobody was using them. Looks like I'll have to load my bike onto a train and venture to another town for my cycling fix.
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Haha thanks a lot @marcellostraps! Ah that's really frustrating that they waited to do construction until now. Hope you can get out to another area to get some cycling in, as the weather is amazing right now!

Great video. I will check this path out this summer. I rode my motorcycle up along the North/South border in 1999. It really gives you a chill down your spine. Kind of sad too. (Oh, I get yelled by cranky old guys all the time ...).

Thanks a lot @aletheia3! Definitely check the path out. It's interesting and the condition of it is really nice. Motorcycle ride along the DMZ would be very interesting and you must have felt a lot from all of the history it has. Haha hard not to get in the way of the old guys too eh! 🤣

Next time you cycle this path, you might want to make a little detour to a fascinating place: it's an old textile factory converted into a bar. The place in question is called 조양방직 and is located at 12 Hyangnamu-gil 5beon-gil, Ganghwa-eup, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon If I'm not mistaken, you would temporarily leave Course 1 on the DMZ Bike Path around 1/3 of its length, cross the bridge to the West and ride around 5km towards Ganghwa-eup. If you are into industrial heritage, and want to make nice photos with tons of old requisites, you won't regret it!

Oh wow thank you so much for this info @eiseli99! I checked out the photos on Naver and it looks really cool! My wife and I will be heading back to 강화도 in the future, so we will definitely check it out! Much appreciated!

Thanks a lot Mike! The trekking path is really great too! Can't wait to try it as well. Also it looks like it's only about 1.5 hours by bus to get to the start from Seoul, so it'd make for a good day trip to go there and back if you head out early without having to spend the night.

All the best with your English studies and have a great day!

Inspiring to say the least + great to see you're tenacity in finishing what you had started. You both have opened my eyes to bikepacking in S.Korea in the near future. Thank you & please be well
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much @daniels.2720! South Korea is relatively unknown to the bikepacking world, but it's incredibly underrated just because of its infrastructure and safety. You can grab a bus or taxi from every single spot in the country basically, so you are never completely stranded. Definitely give it a thought!

Welcome to my corner of Korea! Been a resident on Ganghwa-do for seven years, west coast, on the side of Guksusan overlooking the sea and Seongmo-do. A subscriber of your channel since your first handful of video's, after watching you both adventure all over the place, seems surreal to have you up in our neighborhood! The "road block" aka Civilian Control Line, is closed seemingly randomly, depending on relations/tensions with our neighbors to the north. It is seldom announced and unfortunately, you won't know until you go. Wishing you both to have a wonderful summer, all the best!

Thanks so much @edwardperry4419! Ganghwa-do is beautiful! Also thanks so much for this information! I was curious because I saw some blog posts recently about the 평화전망대, but I was confused when it was blocked. Will have to go back there someday for sure! Hope you have a wonderful summer as well, and take care!

great video as always! I want to thank you for your earlier subway hints as well, i didnt realise you needed to reserve a spot on the AREX line as I thought it would have followed the same rules as other subway lines for bikes, so im glad you mentioned it!
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much @BasicStealthcamping! Yeah they implemented that rule a year ago I think, and there is never any employees checking for the reservation, so I don't know if they even care about it haha. Probably still a good idea to reserve though!

I also did that part of DMZ trail and the stretch between Ara are and the official begining of the trail is quite dangerous. You are very polite though, I'd get so mad if someone honks like that. It's already scary enough for cyclist to go on the road to on top of that being honked for no reason. Anyway great video, looking forward to your next DMZ adventures!
@MrChaotio

You can also do a Ganghwa-do loop by bike btw, it's quite fun and almost fully bike lane
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot @MrChaotio! Haha it's definitely scary to be honked at randomly while cycling. Also would love to check out the Ganghwa-do loop! They closed the road while I was there (they do it randomly apparently), but next time hopefully it's open up!

Maybe that truck driver just wanted to complement you on your bike set up. lol I have read and seen videos that the wildlife in the DMZ is thriving (especially for birds) due to no human activity within it. Perhaps one day SK and NK will make peace and unite so you can make cycling videos up North. That would be nice.
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Ahaha I hope you're right that he was just stoked on my bike @blackbelt2000! But you are right that wildlife is thriving in the DMZ. Even if they open the borders someday, I hope that they don't develop the DMZ just to keep the habitat intact. They could even make a trekking trail going through it or something (although I think there are a lot of landmines which would make this very difficult to do).

Great video, as always! Would you recommend skipping or avoiding the first 20km to the start of the cycle path? The roads looked pretty busy and unpleasant to cycle on, even ignoring the weirdo who stopped his truck.
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot @Max-vk2vf! Yeah avoiding that section would definitely be recommended, but it's not easy to do between Cheongna Intl. Station and the start of Course 1. You could try going through Geomdan (검단) like this instead: naver.me/GieZoKyD I've never tried it though.

Great vid but missing the details you usually give on the Korea bike paths - length, how much away from roads etc - this one is lesser known and lots of Qs about it.. is that road block permanent?
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 8 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot @dunkinkorea! I'm riding it for my first time as well, so I don't have all of the information myself just yet (there is barely any info online). I'll try and summarize more info as I get to the end of the path! Also the road block was temporary (no info when it'll open up), as I've seen blog posts from Korean tourists that went to the observatory recently.

Great video man! I have a question that maybe you could help with. I'm landing in Seoul with my family of four and we will have our bikes with us, do you know of a place that will store bike bags without breaking the bank? Will be taking the whole month to ride down to Busan and if it's easy to get to will see Jeju. Thank bud and safe riding!

Thanks so much @patrickedmonstone4712! I answered this question to the best of my ability in this video here (timestamped) kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4fUm2ZmqaqVq68 so hope it helps a bit and safe riding!

@spectator3272 we got so lucky and didn't get a single flat tire while completing every bike path in Korea until this one so got pretty cocky haha. Definitely agree with you there that you gotta be prepared at all times for it! Stay safe!

I use the DJI Action 4 for my action camera, and a Sony ZV-1 to capture detail shots or zoom in. I use the DJI Mic to capture my audio too, as it does a better job than the microphone on the camera.
