Nicky Case’s presentations are as ingenious, compelling, and graphically rich as the visualizing tools and games Nicky creates for understanding complex dynamic systems.
Case writes: “We need to see the non-linear feedback loops between culture, economics, and technology. Not only that, but we need to see how collective behavior emerges from individual minds and motives. We need new tools, theories, and visualizations to help people talk across disciplines.”
Nicky Case is the creator of "Parable of the Polygons": ncase.me/polygons/ (02014), "Coming Out Simulator": ncase.me/cos/ (02014), "We Become What We Behold": ncase.itch.io/wbwwb (02016), "To Build A Better Ballot": ncase.me/ballot/ (02016), and "LOOPY": ncase.me/loopy/ (02017).
"Seeing Whole Systems" was given on August 07, 02017 as part of Long Now's Seminar series. Love the animation; what happens when systems are run by goal driven managers and not performance driven engineers.

It all goes into the crapper, because A) manager's managers are bad at setting the right goals for what they want B) If you use a number as a measure for something, that number instantly becomes useless C) managers will find ways to cheat the system, causing nasty outcomes due to perverted incentives. But sometimes, with the right people, the right goals, the right motivations, things work. See SpaceX. They created everything from nothing. That was no accident.

That opening video was a metaphor for what we have become, but how to redo it all the right way? We'd have to make up our own new vocabulary free of hidden meaning. I think it will get harder and harder to right the wrongs the longer we wait. We will need true originality. Could that be some of the reason why we are being bombarded with information in our current model of society?

That’s his(?) her(?) opinion. If someone is so confused on such a basic level, I strongly hesitate to attach credence to any words they may speak.

nicky has consistently demonstrated competence and domain knowledge of these subjects through a vast profile of high quality work. to disregard the valuable lessons they've learned based on something completely unrelated seems pretty unwise. but you do you.

it does line up that someone too unintelligent to understand minor gender complexity would also be too unintelligent to adopt knowledge for its inherent merits rather than some weird prejudice based trust..

Luck, evolution, chance, variations and personal vanity... Keep thinking mechanically and you'll get mechanically worn out results. This guys are so full of themselves and don't understand how true nature & the mind works... What a waste of my time.

I gave it a try despite usual bias because of title then so old wise white guy but then saw this... still the monopoly mechanism is very true giving away money is not a solution but granting every family piece of land without ability to rob children of it seems about right excluding cities, unnatural demonic zones are not for natural human beings 😂

How does true nature & the mind work then? Waste of a comment not to elaborate
