Very interesting. I'd love to see you do this again with a bogged car.

It's worth another experiment. Instead of burying the Max Trax at 90°, try burying them at 45° pointing uphill (away from the vehicle). Once you can drive past the hole, the Max Trax can be dragged out by hooking the straps to the back end. Maybe even add a tree strap to the top handles for easier extraction.

likely already added : best to put the maxtrax against the undisturbed sand as that will be firmer /harder --- an old bushie trick ;) . Great idea to dig in the tow line :)

My old boss and good friend Malcolm Douglas taught the Aussie SAS to bury the spare tyre 4 or 5ft down then running your winch cable off that and burying the lot...tho he was doing advising this in hard red dirt country, not beach sand... but it would probably still work, maybe go a bit deeper for safety. Like the Max Trax idea tho, adaptability using what you have is always key.

To increase mechanical advantage, use a 1 or 2 pulley. Nice in the sand, a little different with mud or snow. Regardless, they do work as ground anchors. I used my track sideway,, less digging, but need MA to increase your capacity. Great video. Hey from Canada.
@lachie23365 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the great idea. It might work even better if you buried them horizontally, as the entire tracks would be pulling against an even amount of sand, instead of wanting to lever themselves out of the hole.

I was JUST wondering if it’s possible to winch yourself out of sand by burying something in the sand. And a few days ago, I was wondering if you REALLY need crawl control or can just do it yourself. And you had a video that covered it. Awesome content! Helps me figure out how I’d like to set up my F-150 for some off road adventures

Probably placing the strap even lower on the MaxTrax would have given you more traction. Anyway, love to see you share your out of the box ideas.

You should have filled in the max tracks in the rear as well it would have stabilized them and probably made it able for you to only winch even further
@markbutland36654 жыл бұрын
From experience with snow anchors when climbing If you dig a groove for the treestrop which then pulls in straight line not over a hump should work better
@kwakka615 жыл бұрын

9 cubicfeet of sand weighs 900 pounds. 3x3x3 which is close to the hole you digged. The tracks were buried vertically. Try burying them horizontzl at the bottom ofthe hole. That way the full weight of the sand will be your resistance.

You need to film it all in action, with the 4by bogged in such a way that the you couldn't use the maxtrax to get out, by using them under the tyres, and the winch is the only option. Plus, make it time critical (ie. Like it's your wedding that you could miss if you don't get out) 🤣

Awesome idea, heaps less work than with a spare tyre. It would be interesting to see what Max Trax have to say about using them like this. They will probably double the price if they get wind of this 🤣🤣🤣.

The hole is smaller to bury Maxtrax, and also they are easier to get too for me. Two good enough reasons for me 🙂. A spare tyre is always an option though 👍

I think you kind of missed the point of the video mate, its a proof of concept video. I know sometimes we have had some really hairy situations on the beach where being able to have an anchor point up on the sand dune would have made it so much easier. In Part 2 I actually show you what I mean about where this would be useful, check it out if you want 👍😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4jGq6dsoZ6UZqs
