Hopefully you never need to splice the winch rope on your 4wd winch while your bogged on a muddy hill. But in case you ever need to, here is how!
One of the biggest advantages of rope instead of winch cable, is that you can actually repair it out on the trail.

From Soft Shackles to winch rope repair !! This rope is amazing !! Ive gotta get some. If you cut it 4 times before it broke....then its worth every penny of its price. I learn a ton of stuff here brother, thank you

Yes it was already cut as you can see at the end of the video 😉🙂. What would you film to make the start of a winch rope repair video interesting? 🤷‍♂️ I could just start it with 'Today I'm going to show you how to'. But that's just not the fun nature of my channel 🙂

Always learning something. I initially thought why not use a steel cable? Then at the end I saw how tough this stuff really is.. and repairable.
@tareskisloki8579
@tareskisloki8579 4 жыл бұрын
Plus steel cable weighs so much more (huge difference when running it up a hill), and you need to wear heavy gloves when handling it to avoid slicing your hand open on any loose strands, the only problem with rope is you have to avoid rubbing it against rocks (but you can buy sliding sheaths that just stay on the rope, roll up on the drum and be be placed where needed).

You do very good videos. Professional, simple but through explanation of 'How to perform, what -to-do' in an unexpected situation. I have found Life usually doesn't give one a classroom/ Lab example, rain, mud, fire, medical emergency, etc., and the best one can hope for is to have some training, back-up options, and maybe some ingenuity & luck. Amazing what a creative human can pull off if you keep your head, and your videos are an excellent training resource. Thank you.

Great video! For me try to buy a reliable brand of recovery gears like Miolle recovery gears for peace of mind. Used there kinetic rope multiple times no signs of damage and worked like a charm. Nice hi-vis color makes it easy to see and, more importantly, stay clear of during the snatch. Seems very well made and robust. I definitely recommend this kinetic rope.

When terminating the rope. I always thought it’s better to pull it all the way through once before burying it inside. This way there is an additional change of direction to prevent the rope from slipping out. Infact I’m pretty sure with ski rope you’re supposed to weave it several times before burying it

No need to stitch it if you weave the tip completely through the rope a couple times before running it through the middle. Also, no need for the damper you're using there, seeing synthetic rope holds very little kinetic energy. Great video, mate!
