Hi! A bit late, but as a fellow musician who DOES happen to have synesthesia, 10/10 wouldn't recommend. At least for me, I find in often confusing and frustrating, as many of the "visuals" of certain songs don't like up with my train of thought, this and, of course, many aspects of songwriting. It feels more like a lukewarm soda than anything else- sometimes too vague, sometimes overwhelming (2 AM writing sessions say hello).

I have synesthesia. I "see" colors when I eat food or listen to music and even when i feel emotion. however unlike the video, I don't see the colors in my vision. I more get the essence of the color. Like fresh foods are a nice green and savory foods are more of a purpley red. I've always seen these colors but never knew how to put a word for it. I would ask for a food that's green and no one would understand. I see these colors the same when i listen to music. It's a swirling image of color, like abstract art. The colors are typically following a dancers feet as they move so does the color. It's a beautiful expepiernce. The colors are hard to pinpoint becuase I don't see them in my vision as she does. I more just know that a color is there. being color blind really doesn't help with my cause becuase it's hard for me to say what color is there when I don't see the color the way everyone else does.

i asked because those people that can do amazing calculations with synesthesia, they see the numbers has objects, and can calculate because placing those objects close to each other, they get the product and weird things like that.. i was just wondering if there is an 'hidden' reality we dont know of, like each number is actually some type of figure or sensation that people with synesthesia get to experience, or is just a more usefull way of interpret information. seeing it as objects, feelings and colours instead of the typical numbers we get by writing them on paper. its probably easier to remember a piece of music if you are watching the colours and feeling them, then just hearing i guess. im just really amazed how that shit works

I have the opposite! My vision creates sound. When I see movement, I hear wave like, "whooshing" sounds. Flashing, or blinking lights are usually "pops" and "sizzles" (like crosswalk signs). Bright colours,(especially on simple shapes), create high pitched "static" sounds. At night, if an ambulance passes by, the flashing lights create "booming echos". Sometimes, it's distracting. I'm also a musician!

Thank you sooo much for this. My daughter is young and ambidextrous. And I recently looked up what potentially could be associated with ambidexterity. And synethesia was something I learned she could potentially have. And I asked her a few questions like if she could taste sounds etc. And her answers were "no." But when it came to asking her if she sees colors when she hears music or sounds, she said, "yes." She tried her best to explain it to me but I still couldn't understand exactly. But this here really helped me understand. Of course, not everyone with synethesia see exactly the same thing but it really helped me understand what she meant when she says she sees colors and shapes that flow and fade away. I'm so grateful for this. ❤❤❤

It's so cool how many different forms of synesthesia there are. Like for me numbers and equations have a place associated with them and when I calculate something I don't use numbers but instead the dots, lines or planes shift in corresponding directions. I'm not sure whether it's just because of this but on an IQ test (a real one) I scored just above average on most things but on mathematical, logical or spatial tests I almost always scored as high as it gets.
@DrachenGothik666
@DrachenGothik666 4 жыл бұрын
She's not kidding when she says there are so many forms of synesthesia. When I see things like flashing signs, in absence of any loud noise, I "hear" a sound in my head for whichever colour is flashing. For example, neon red is a kind of low, grinding buzz, and depending on the shade of red it is, that buzz will change tone slightly. For the violinist, her tones are pure. For me, the sounds aren't often clean, they're more often distorted, fuzzy, or just strange. Moreover, I "hear" sound in motion, and something repetitive will form simple rhythms. It gets more fun when there are multiple rhythms in the silent motions I'm watching, and my mind translates it into layered "sounds", that can form a fun sort of drum-track. Here's an ever weirder one: I have tinnitus--I have constant hissing in my ears, which can be annoying, some days. I also have an air purifier running in my living-room and bedroom all the time. Machines, because of the way they're built, have rhythm-cycles to them, and when it's quiet in the house, I hear my head hissing and the air-purifier going, and between all that, I start to "hear" *music*. Actual music. It's ranged from black metal, folk, 70's style rock, Goth/Industrial, to a mish-mash symphonic orchestral thing and it's a lot of fun to listen to. If I could read or write musical notation, I'd write the stuff down and see what I could do with it, just for the fun of it...

Thank you for playing that music. Its one of my favourite musical compositions, it has some very intense emotional triggers lodged within it, and to hear a new interpretation is usually a devastating experience for me. I am not sure why I haven't just stopped listening to the pieces that get their claws into me, but I'm helpless to do so. Strangely listening to you play it this morning was quite the opposite, I feel restored, almost as though something within me has been satisfied, or replenished. And lately things have seemed awfully empty. Again, thank you, it's very possible that your music has just changed my life, or more correctly, made it worth living again.

I have synesthesia, not the same type though, for me, I see letters and numbers in colors, they also have their own gender and personality and age. I can also feel the personality of music notes. I don't have the same type of synesthesia in the video but usually we don't actually see the colors as if we're seeing them through the eyes, we mostly just picture them in our mind as if they were there. For example, when seeing 2, it is blue for me, but when looking at it on the paper I know that in real life it's black ink. Your mental image kind of overlays with what you see. In any case, I love having this... Let's call it gift. It helps a lot in remembering things and feeling things differently. It's kind of a superpower :D

When I tap into the endorphens in my brain, I percieve them as having an array of colors with each color representing a specific purpose for each endorphen. For example a rich blue color means that endorphen is seratonin. A vivid golden cream color means melatonin. A white endorphen can stop any pain in the human body, except for a toothache. A combination of rich orange, pale aqua and light olive green works to calm exposed nerves in an open wound (such as an ulceration caused by veinous reflux disease.) I have used these endorphens and many more to help a variety of ailments within my body. I can't help but wonder whether I could teach other people to release the endorphens in their own brains, in order to help with their particular aches, pains and ailments in general. I would love to try it and see what is possible.

Man, synesthetes just have a headstart on life. I can't imgaine how useful this is for memorisation.

very interesting to hear and see your perception, though i think you could have done a whole lot more with this, even just doing some chords and location, change/movement but it's cool to see a 360 now and then, even if the 4K looks like 240p

Now i fell sad because i cant have this blessed talent. I am here, seeing this, and i fell that being a normal person is nothing special.

Interesting. My ‘G’s’ are ‘Green’ too! I don’t see lights, but I have consistent color associations with then 12-tet. They shift in different tuning systems.👍🏾

I'm partially colorblind. And this video really helps in describing what it's like. All you "normal people"... You're soundblind! Can you describe what it's like?

Does it ever get obstructive? For example if you are watching a movie / video, do these glowing dots manifest in your vision, blocking what you want to be seeing? Does the sound have to be a particular type of sound to trigger it? For example, can you "see" footstep noises?

Had my first non-drug induced instance of synesthesia just the other day. Setting in my vehicle with my arm on the window sill eyes closed dozing as it started to sprinkle lightly, very small drops, on my arm, I could see each drop as they hit my arm in my visual field as a tiny light spots. Such a shame I reflexively opened my eyes and it was gone. It was a rather marvelous sensation.

& here I thought I was crazy.... Growing up I used to play around with sound equipment a lot, higher frequencies that would give feedback modulating off the shiny walls & furniture always felt funny inside & when I experienced Pink noise I had a flat tart like taste. White Noise just irritates me but after a while you tune it out. Early teens I've resorted to just telling people I can hear the frequencies, without even knowing that these things exist & can be explained. What else might I be experiencing totally different...

I would love to have your condition. I also love music trance, and classical as well as symphonic heavy metal. I would gladly center my life around this. I wish you the best:)

AMAZINGGGGGGGG. Somehow, that reminds me of an anime scene where someone would play music and different colors would appear. For me it was just some kind of aesthetic before. Now, i'm thinking, maybe the one who edited the video has synesthesia.
