I don't know if it's very common, people tells me it's just because it's your memory, but there's many smells that will gives me flashbacks to something very special, for example a very specific of glue brand will remind me of my kindegarten because we used these a lot and it's very closely tied to it, I also have a good sense of smell.

The second test I was thinking of a painting as the music was playing (didn't paint along with you guys) using the same colors. there’s a difference between actually having synesthesia and *trying* to assign something to a word. my friend can smell words and sees colors for words. i ask her what color my name is and she says a muted sky blue. she sees this color when she thinks of my name. i, however, have to THINK and TRY to assign a color to my name. most people in these comments are just experiencing the placebo effect and are thinking hard to try and apply themselves into what real synesthetic people experience.

I've had chromesthesia ever since I was born, and I just want to clear up the fact that not many chromesthetes (I think that's the word) associate the same colors with the same sounds. In test number two they kinda messed that up a bit. For example, I hear One Dance by Drake (just using a popular song as an example so everyone can understand)in light pink, but another person might hear it in dark blue. But also someone might happen to hear it in the same color as me.

I i guess i do have Mirror-touch synesthesia...when i saw the person in the right hit himself for the first time...i felt it...but when he did that again i didnt....similarly when the person in the left hit himself for the first time i had a feel...but when he did that again i alerted myselves i guess...From this i got to know that when i see things right away ....i get the feel and ....when its done again...i get alerted...

I can taste words with certain foods and certain words have a smell. And one food lets me taste certain numbers too. Although, something weird I can do, is that I can actually switch between which number or word I wanna taste and I have a special order for them. It's been a thing my whole life and recently I discovered I'm not the only one.

Synesthesia can’t be diagnosed, because it’s not a disorder or disease. It can be tested though, and I agree, I think everyone has a form of it and it can be practiced/enhanced. Some people are just more genetically predisposed to it than others. Like a lot of things, it’s a spectrum and everyone experiences it differently.

I've had this since I was little and never understood what it was until I learned about it in my college psychology class. Every word reminds me of an action...Like the word Colorado for example, reminds me of a persons fingers twirling. Really weird but I always thought this was a normal thing that everyone had!

I believe tests for synesthesia would rarely ever work because people associate objects and concepts all the time without realizing, over the course of their lives. Testing for synesthesia might get people confused… between conditioned associations and actual neurological experiencing.
