I just received a delivery order through Amazon from whole foods and the only reason I was able to afford it was bc they offered $20 off plus free delivery. Anyone who has Amazon prime, definitely keep an eye out for those offers. Even instacart offers coupons periodically.

I've really been using what I already have to flesh out my weekly meal plans. I've had minimal purchases over several weeks in December saving- no lie- over $400. I've decided to buy things in bulk at my local discount store and, when I find my pantry stuffed, we'll have a "use what ya got" week which might produce weird meals, but oh well! It's time to save some dinero! 😁

Hi Mindy, I boil the chicken carcass and used the stock for a third meal, like stew or soup. Usually my second meal is tortillas or pasta. I have been able to buy large bags of dried beans and cook in my instant pot. Also I buy basmati rice in the international aisle, like the beans I find it cheaper then the rice and beans in the generic aisle. Love your videos.

Love your videos. Such good tips. And you always have su h tasty and inventive recipes. You mentioned needing a game plan with what you purchase so it doesn't spoil. May I add a suggestion, learn how to preserve. Growing up on the farm where we raised, grew, and harvested 90% of our food, I spent a lot of my late summer early fall learning how to can, dehydrate, smoke, and properly freeze everything. And it came in handy when I could barely make rent month to month. I would buy many fruits and veggies when they were at give away prices and put them in the freezer. Like when 10lb bags of potatoes where .99 a bag before thanks giving. I would buy 2 or 3 and then freeze or dehydrate them. Buy up all the veggies on the verge of going bad and freeze or dehydrate them. You just need to know the proper technique. Dehydrator, vacuum sealer, and canning supplies where some of my most useful gifts from family.

Treats are so important. I go for flavor bombs--the fancy 95 percent cocoa lindt bars. I can't eat more than half a square at a time, but I don't want to, either. I get my chocolate fix and can go eat real food. Normally store brands are fine, but at least if they aren't you haven't lost much. Still baffled that my nearest 'fancy' grocery store screwed up frozen blueberries (sour, unripe) and red beans and rice mix (salt). Great Value is a better risk, barring certain outliers (frozen pizza unless they've added some sort of flavor to it).

By looking to clearance sections first, and purchasing reduced meats anyone can save alot of money. 1 large Potato in a pinch could be divided among 3 or 4 people . When served with a protein, a slice of bread or a roll, and 2 inexpensive veggies it will make a filling meal. Divide a large Potato in half, top it with a 1/4 cup mixture of black beans, tomatos or salsa, add slices of pepper, a little can corn, season top with cheese and you have a hearty and inexpensive meal. Also, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli and Lettuces give a good # of servings for their price. Hi Mindy! I had a video idea for you. The concept of budget cooking can include not only the cost of the ingredients but also the cost of preparing it. For example, with energy costs rising and having to spend more money heating our homes in the winter, we could try to save money using our crock pots, instant pots, single electric burner, or even microwave instead of the oven/stove. A comparison of the energy cost for a week’s worth of meals using the different energy sources might be interesting.

I agree on the frozen veggies. I find myself adding those and chopped spinach, sweet potato, cauliflower and mixed mushrooms to all kinds of things. I have an issue with the way foods list protein, like soy milk. It's not a complete protein. And it makes it very confusing. Did you know adding flax seed to your oatmeal makes it a complete protein? Otherwise it's not complete. I was dx'd with a protein deficiency and now I don't count incomplete proteins. That gave me a different picture than what I thought I was getting.
