The Vanquish looks just as stunning but in a GT Form, in Astons GT form. Especially at the back, the new design style they've got doesn't work on the DB11 but they've nailed it on the Vanquish. And yeah, that V12 Vantage is that perfect aggression in an Aston. If you ever get the chance to go to 6 hours of Silverstone WEC or to wheever the nearest WEC is for you then listen to the V8 Vantage's there, they repeatedly pound your senses...It's violent

@jake40307 жыл бұрын
I really hope so, I drive a V8 Vantage and although the gearbox is a pain in the ass to deal with at low speeds, the power delivery of the NA V8 makes up for it. Hoping the turbos don't completely soil it.
@denisspratt9267 жыл бұрын
Jake. I am a bit worried about the same thing. But the AMG engine they are gonna use is pretty good in the Mercs i`ve tried with it. And it´s also one of the few turbo engines that sounds good. But we´ll see when it comes.
@jake40307 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the current engine that's used across all new AMG's, as have I. I'm running a GLE63S alongside the Vantage, but I would be very surprised if that's what substituted the current engine, the power band seems far too short. I pull through first gear way too quickly I find the current AMG engine, where as in the Aston it let me revs all the way up to about 7.5-8K RPM, I have much more room to play around with in the Aston. It would be a shame if thats what replaced it IMO.

What a beautiful trio and what a tragic missed opportunity to do an intelligent comparison. No over excited teenager who would never be a buyer of any of these cars should have been used to comment. Think how more informative and interesting to watch would this have been if a middle aged potential buyer would have driven all three and compared styling, interiors, street driving experience, aggressive twisties driving, etc. We would have all have been much better informed and satisfied.

The DB11 is my all time favorite car. I feel like the Vantage look (though absolutely beautiful) got a bit exhausted after the DB9, the Vantage, The DBS, and the Rapide. I think Aston did a great job with the exterior design of the Vanquish and the DB11. They still retain the Aston look, but are refreshingly more modern in design. One thing about the Vantage I like is the manual transmission. It's hard to find cars like that anymore.

@flyingphoenix1137 жыл бұрын
Seeing the other two for comparison really highlights how underwhelming the DB11 is IMHO. I wish they'd found a way to keep it naturally aspirated. And, if not, I wish they'd gone with a turbo straight 6 and harkened back to the old Aston's, since the TT V12 engine is insanely heavy. Back when it came out, the DB9 was constantly being criticized for being "overweight" at 3900 pounds. The DB11 is hardly a step in the right direction at 4100 lbs. This is a step in the wrong direction. Sorry to see Aston being so poorly led.
@samdeval7 жыл бұрын
flyingphoenix113 DB11 curb weight is 3900 pounds. NA V12 is just not practical these days if you want to achieve 600PS+ with modern emissions regulations.
@flyingphoenix1137 жыл бұрын
*Curb weight* maybe. But, as Motortrend recently tested, the AUW (without driver) of the DB11 is actually 4194 lbs. That is unacceptable for a "svelte sport GT." For reference, the curb weight of the DB9 is actually closer to 3700 lbs., it's just that curb weights are misleading and irrelevant in most modern contexts which is why I referenced the AUW. So, there's effectively 180 lbs. (or more) of intercoolers, turbochargers, fluids, and piping that has now been added. And, power increase or not, the car is worse than its contemporaries. Just compare it to the ancient Aston V12 Vantage S, which has less horsepower, *significantly* less torque, and a chassis from 2005. It has a higher top speed (205 vs. 200), a faster 0-60 (3.7 vs. 3.9) and a lap time around Big Willow that is almost 6 *SECONDS FASTER.* With a better chassis, better aero, better electronics, better spring and damper ratings, and better brakes, this is utterly unacceptable, and why most DB9 owners I have talked to consider the DB11 a step backwards. Aston should have made investments in fuel-saving tech like GM did rather than going for the easy route of downsizing and turbocharging. Instead, the DB11 gets mediocre fuel economy, whilst the 6.2 litre V8 in the C7 Corvette can achieve over 30 MPG highway in the US. I realise they have a limited budget, but cheapening on the drivetrain was the wrong move.
@samdeval7 жыл бұрын
What do you think curb weight is? It's interesting that you only consider top trumps numbers when evaluating a car. Not to mention, you are comparing an aggressively positioned 2 seater sports car against a luxury 4 seater GT car. Let's think about it, what contemporaries does DB11 have that are lighter? FF - Heavier, Panamera - Heavier, anything Bentley or Rolls are what, 2.5 tonnes+? These investments in fuel-saving tech that Aston Martin didn't bother with, I suppose here you are ignoring the new tech that turns off one bank of cylinders when you aren't using them. DB11 is easily capable of 30MPG plus, as you can see in the Supercars of London video that is mentioned in this very video, so I have no idea where you are getting this information.
@flyingphoenix1137 жыл бұрын
I know what the definition of curb weight is. But, having worked recently as an automotive consultant, I can tell you that they don't check to see if the cars have full fluids. Either that, or Aston Martin outright lied about the weight of their vehicle (which, wouldn't surprise me significantly). I know the cars have different functions. I made the point to highlight how important power to weight ratio is. Porsche managed to keep their car light because they made it a priority starting with the 997. If Aston switched to a 4.0 litre straight 6 like the Astons of old and kept the weight below 3500 lbs. (which is relatively easy, given that the F12 managed to keep its weight below 3600 lbs. despite having an even larger V12 than the V12 Vanquish), they would have a car which is objectively better in all measurements except for outright speed as well as a car which is dynamically superior than the new DB11. Also, you are quoting UK mpg, hence why I specified *US* Mpg in my previous post. The EPA cycle says that, *UNDER THE BEST POSSIBLE CONDITIONS,* the DB11 can achieve 21 MPG on the highway. If we switch to imperial fuel economy numbers, the 6.2 litre LT1 V8 looks even better. It's not just cylinder deactivation, it's electric water pumps, reducing internal engine friction (which is what Porsche focused on), and various other important engineering measurements.
@samdeval7 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can take the stated curb weight of one company and just trust it, and then compare it positively to another because you don't trust it. Anyway. I'm not going to argue that the LT1 is a truly fantastic engine, but consider the investment that GM (or VAG) can put into development compared to a small independent like Aston Martin. Not to mention, the V12TT is actually an awesome engine, super torquey, sounds fantastic - perhaps not quite as great as the NA but it never could be. That EPA figure is demonstrably wrong as well in the real world, Porsche have had similar problems in that regard. I do like the idea of the straight 6 turbo though, aren't Jag doing one? I think there is still a huge issue over the 'Top Trumps' culture - I've heard V12 Vantage owners lording it over V8 owners because of their extra cylinders. I don't think anyone that's driven DB11 that I've spoken to considers it a step backwards. Having that Lotus bloke onboard helped, and dynamically DB9 just doesn't even compare. I would add that critics would seem to almost unanimously back me up on that.
