[Time To Buy?] Aston Martin V12 Vantage S

I head to Aston Martin Bristol to test drive a V12 Vantage S.
Every month, I get questions from you guys about whether it's a good time to buy certain cars. So I have decided to launch a new series called, 'Time To Buy?'. I will be getting behind the wheel of cars that have theoretically suffered their biggest hit in depreciation and could now represent a good ownership proposition.
The Aston Martin V12 Vantage S was made from 2013 to 2018. The car produces 565 bhp (421 kW; 573 PS) at 6750 rpm and 620 N⋅m (457 lb⋅ft) at 5750 rpm of torque from a revised 5,935 cc (5.9 L; 362.2 cu in) V12 engine called the AM28, which would be used as a base for future engines. The power is transferred to the rear wheels using a new 7-speed Sportshift III automated sequential transmission, which weighs 25 kg (55 lb) less than the Sportshift II. A manual transmission was offered for late production cars but very few were actually made and delivered in the UK.
The exhaust on the V12 Vantage S was developed from the company's own One-77.
The V12 Vantage S is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h), making it the fastest production Aston Martin in history alongside the One-77.

I think the Vantage is a wonderful car, and already somewhat forgotten. There is something this generation car has that the new one doesn't too me. This styling is better, the interior far more cohesive and special. New one is nice, but i cant stop thinking about this gen, especially a later year. In the USA we had a trim called the GT, which started at $99,999. It was essentially $30,000 cheaper than a regular car, and the only real difference is you were limited in specs. some beautiful manual versions of this car can be found for about $75,000 at the moment, and I do not see them coming down on price much. Buy IT!! You’ll only regret it if you don’t. After many years of lusting for one my nephew bought one. It was the smartest decision he made. Doesn’t regret it and actually comments that it’s been one of the easiest cars he’s owned as far as maintenance and problem areas. He also states that there is quite a number of companies that are very helpful with information, service and parts. Buy IT!

I tested a V12S Sportshift a while ago, and utterly hated it, almost put me off Aston's infact! Ended up with a 6spd V12 Manual instead more recently and no looking back, just love that V12, and feel totally justified in making the right choice for me. It is worth noting that the dogleg 7spd manual offered in the V12S is the same actual gearbox as the sportshift (which is an automated manual) but without the robotisation, I have heard some people say the 6spd manual (as a dedicated manual box) is the better gearbox than the 7spd manual, but I've not driven both manuals and can't compare.

Talking about maintenance costs if you’re talking about ownership is critical. It can be ‘cheap’ to buy but massively expensive to own. You can buy a Bentley Continental for £30k but servicing isn’t astronomical.

great video. I bought a V12 Vantage S 2 years ago, love it everyday. I originally wanted the manual but after driving the SS3, more than adequate. Actually really fun to drive. V12 is a dying breed. Truly a car w/ a soul & passion

Here we are a couple of months out and all we’ve done is continue to kick the can down the road. The bottom of the car market is still 2-3 years out. People think the crash happened but it didn’t. Prices are more inflated now than ever before and that trend will continue until the end of 2020. The first few months of ‘21 will be relatively stable and then we will see this market begin to rollover just in time for the northern hemisphere driving season. For now, move to cash, save your money (in bitcoin), and wait. Make a spreadsheet and track values for yourself. When the opportunity presents itself, you’ll know.

So is Aston Martin the Brits version of a more refined Corvette ? Decent service costs....Very good sound and speeds. Of course I would be referring to the Base Corvette 2015 + as anything is would spank an Aston. Of course nothing is as reliable as the LS engines, but still is it just me or is the comparison there?

Sam, I too love the 'old' Vantage. NO NO NO... do not buy the sports shift. I had one for 4 weeks. Horrific. It actually wrecked the gearbox itself.. Total failure. Got rid. Bought a DB9. Proper auto box. Traded that for a 458 spider... Heaven. . There you have it... Keep the vids coming.

I’ve had three AM dealers with used ones on the lots tell me the reliability is not good, especially for the clutch in the auto-box. They are now about $80-$100k USD here in states. Dealers all tell me DB11 is a better and more reliable car. Thoughts?

You forget that there is the normal v12 Vantage, it came with a totally normal manual 6 Speed and seems to be the sweet spot of v12 drivers cars.

Great timing for this video but maybe not for buying🤔. I bought mine 3 weeks ago at the start of the virus outbreak in the uk! Had I known that things were going to get as bad as it has, I would have delayed the purchase. Do I regret buying it? Absolutely not. I may have saved a few grand but who cares, I have a V12 Vantage S!! Unfortunately, it’ll be a while before I will be enjoying it but I live on the NC500 route so once the restrictions are lifted, I’ll be out with a massive grin on my face!! 😬

The real questions is this: 2017 7MT Vantage S in the US is now $140K. 2015 6MT Vantage is $90K. That’s a huge difference. 2009 DBS 6MT is $125. So, which one do you buy? PS. Nobody is buying a single clutch one of these. Come on now...

Absolutely not definatly do not buy a new car anytime soon! Maybe the only cars that are safe are the really rare classics! There is a massive car market correction coming! Two main parts people needing to offload non essential assets to get cash. There by flooding the market with supercars, sports cars, 100k Audi's, BMW's, watches like Rolex's, APs, patex, Richard mille etc!. You then have the problem of car manufacturers like McLaren, Ferrari etc flooding the market with endless iteration of the same car and constant new models! It's just a mix thats disasterous! I got a lot of hate for saying it back in early February! But it's true! The high end car and watch market was due trouble without this pandemic fallout!

British car? The major shareholders are of Canadian, German and Kuwait origin, not British. The engine and major components are supplied by AMG, a subsidiary of Daimler Benz. Yes it may be assembled in the UK and possibly designed in the UK, but this is not a 100% British car.

Why buy a car today that will be worth half what it is in six months or a year. The current economy globally will see similar shifts in car pricing like we saw in 2008-2012. The impact of this pandemic will be even more severe so car prices could tank for years. Sell now if you can and sit on cash. I did this in 2008 and bought a half dozen cars after the market tanked. There is no way car prices remain steady with the advent of the C8 and the Roni. I sold 3 cars in January and February and another that is almost sold but the buyer got the virus......

I don't think you'll get a sportshift 3 for 80k. You might get a 2013 with the earlier sportshift for that.

Sorry but there's no point in buying it if it's not manual. Carrera GT also has a cumbersome clutch and it's still one of the best cars ever (just try to imagine Carrera GT with a Tiptronic S...) The argument that there were less made because less people wanted to buy it and therefore it doesn't matter is like saying that the 360 F1 is better than the manual 360 because more people bought that shitbox of a transmission

I think a good time to buy any classic car will be in about 12 months when the world economy is toast - then you'll probably be able to pick up something nice in exchange for an unused 6 pack of toilet paper or a few boxes of Paracetamol
