I have been a part of such a trip. Maybe some suggestions, mostly for the fast driving sections. 1. Have a lead car, which is always doing the exact speed limit (or a bit faster if the driver is confident enough), cars behind will brake to a stop, wait 30s and then try to catch up. Lead car can be one car or rotate every 1h etc. 2. Have a person who is always a map reader/spotter on the trip. The spotter is on the passenger seat of the lead car and will alert about the cars coming, police, pot holes, debris, animals etc over the radio. 3. Take a radio/walkie talkie with an external on antenna which can be mounted on the car using magnets or something along those lines. Then the range will be up to 5km.

@@thepurplesband I don’t know Sam, nor was I on the tour but the first clip shows one car, so not sure what you infer by the ‘everyone’ comment ? And then secondly, isn’t the overtake complete before the sign and also before the solid white line on the road ?

Sam, I really loved this video. Being a Portuguese car enthusiast, I’ve driven many of the roads featured in the video. I love the roads in the interior of Alentejo and the Serra da Estrela nature park. I do not own a super car, but I can tell you those roads are just as exciting (and maybe more demanding) in my Diesel Volvo XC90. Keep up the great content!

Shouldn't that be the logic of convoy driving: -It's better that the lead goes too fast than too slow -People follow according to their comfort levels, those who want to go slow stay at the back of the convoy -The lead slows down every once in a while. This is logical because slowing down for a short while or taking a short pause isn't painfully uncomfortable to those wanting to drive spiritedly like following behind a Mr. Driving Miss Daisy all day would be. You want the lead to drive a bit too fast rather than too slow. -Everyone should know the route before setting off. In modern days this should be incredibly easy with all the possible mapping app features for that, or with the "share my location"-feature. At minimum just plot the course on the nav and send a screenshot to everyone. That's how we convoy'd with a Carrera GT.

I’ve done many road trip with friends with numbers but my very first was with 17 other Cars of the same make in perfect weather up the whole west coast of Scotland. At one point you didn’t see another Car out with the group for a hour as we left early. This was before the NC500 was a thing. Everything just worked and the scenery was breathtaking, people outside the group enjoyed seeing the cars all line up at places. Always think I was spoiled because everyone was just great, great company and good food and best of all just a complete laugh start to finish over hundreds of miles. We all found our grove, some liked to push on more and others like myself to take it a bit more easy but the reality was you only arrived minutes behind the first car so it was all good. I’d pull in and say something was amazing be it a view or place and some would say “ where was that” because they were so focused on the Car in front that is all they seen on sections 😂 Sorry Scotlands to beautiful to let it pass you by. The trouble is you’ll be chasing that first experience now and probably only come close. But that looked a great experience everyone enjoyed and will remember. Nothing like sitting round a table at night talking over the drive of the day.

Great to see such group at Serra da Estrela. You came across me, if I'm not mistaken, 19th of April Morning, 9am 'ish. Between "Manteigas" and "Valhelhas" (Bottom'ish of the Mountain). That day I was like, "wow, 3 porsches and an Aston here?? Hauling a##!!" (Not sure I saw the "Jag" though) .. Usually those roads are way more frequented by Motorbikes, great roads to drive in with aswell. Fell free to come again.

Great start! Definitely better to lead too fast than too slow. As long as everyone has access to the same route, splitting into spirited vs chill groups is the way to go. Nothing worse than being stuck behind the slows for long periods when you want to send it.

I would suggest getting in touch with GT Tourz. They organise European trips including hotel stays etc. It's not just the routes but the logistics of managing groups on the roads. Worth a chat for hints and tips of how they organise things.

Did you all find your front plates on the eurotunnel on the way home “stuck in rear Venturi”? On a serious note, Sam and Tony, the trip sounded epic when I heard about it on the podcast. Then I heard how it went on the podcast afterwards, I was like “that sounded sick, I want to go on the next one”. Well, having seen this, I take that back, if I could drive I’d already be planning the wheels so I can book the second yo7 pull the trigger. You really filmed this beautifully. I think it is definitely the people who make a trip like this. I did two uni ski trips that highlight it beautifully, first just like this, the second, well I wish I hadn’t bothered! But I get the sense you guys ar3 radiators rather than drains, and you’ll attract fellow radiators on the tours!

7:00 Ye food and coffees are cheap, that's due to cheap labour mostly. It's not like everything is perfect, a brand new BMW M2 will set you around 105.000€, where minimum wage is at about 820€. Used 987 Cayman S? around 45.000€ A used E92 M3 molested? About 45.000€ Not everything is perfect, the good weather and great food as it's price, especially if you are a car guy in Portugal, it's painful.

Just a question but is it normal for someone in your country to expect to drive a new car that costs 9x their net annual salary (used your figures of net €12k per year)? If I earned that amount per month I’d look to cut my cloth accordingly and get something like a decent MX5 for less than €10k (it’s not a flash car to impress the neighbours like a new M2 but one of the best drivers cars of all time). Amazes me that people think they are compelled to live a lifestyle way beyond their means. To my mind being a car guy doesn’t depend on you driving an expensive car, just being someone that enjoys the pleasure of driving.
@Chico.00
@Chico.00 7 ай бұрын
@@sultanoftippoo3857 Well, I just wanted to illustrate the cost of new cars. That plays a huge role on the used car market... I drive a car that is 1/4 of my gross wage, but it's a expensive shitbox. A nice MX-5 won't only set you 10.000€... You can get a imported one from germany with lot's of rust and makeup selling for 10k, but the experience will be awful. Rust, maintenance to do, lack of AC and Hard top, just makes the usability less and less. A good NB (1.8 NBFL) is about 16.000€ with AC, a ND is about 23.000€ for the a decent used ND1 1.5...
