Realise that the religion is complete now with all the evidences and truths evident. During the time of rasul pbuh, how do we know we would have believed in someone who claimed to be a prophet, before the victory was achieved, when virtually your whole community was rejecting him, and before the Quran was complete? Even in madinah, the Ansar were not like us. They knew they were sacrificing the risk of extermination by adopting the prophet pbuh. We don't know if we would have had such courage. Today we live in a world where we don't feel threatened at all in our land. But if we ever did, we would surely flee.

Episode 87 - 93 Notes: Part 3 - The Death of Abdullah Ibn Salul A month after the return from Tabuk, Abdullah Ibn Salul fell sick and the Muslims realised that he was going to die. Abdullah Ibn Salul had fought Islam secretly many times at Uhud, Khandaq, Masjid Al Dirar and was even the one behind the Slander of Aisha RA. Umar RA requested to execute him many times but the Prophet SAW would not allow it. On his death bed, Abdullah requested the Prophet SAW visit him. The Prophet SAW visited him and after this Abdullah died. The Prophet SAW used his own shirt as a burial covering for the Munafiq and even lead Abdullah’s Janazah. The Prophet SAW then helped bury Abdullah and even went into his grave. Shortly after this, Allah SWT revealed Ayah 84, which forbade any Muslim from ever praying for the Munafiqs or to even stand near their graves. - The Arrival at Medina and Events after Tabuk After 60 days the Prophet SAW approached Medina and this is when the children of Medina ran to Thaniyatul Wada and sang the poem of Tala Al Badru Alayna. The Prophet SAW then prayed 2 Rakaats in his masjid as was his custom. - The Incident of Ka’b Ibn Malik RA Ka’b Ibn Malik RA had converted to Islam before the Hijrah and he was one of the elite of the Ansar, due to him taking part in the Pledge of Aqabah. Ka’b RA had also participated in every battle apart from Badr and Tabuk. When the Prophet SAW had announced the Expedition to Tabuk. Ka’b RA did not want to go because the Expedition occurred close to the harvest season and also when it is very hot. Despite this, Ka’b RA initially intended to go. But as the time for the Expedition came close, Ka’b RA did nothing at all to prepare for it. When the Prophet SAW and the army left, Ka’b RA went out to Medina and realised that, it was empty except for the weak and the Munafiqun. When the Prophet SAW got to Tabuk he realised that, Ka’b RA had not come along. When the Prophet SAW returned to Medina, Ka’b RA informed him that he had no excuse for not coming along. The Prophet SAW confirmed that Ka’b RA had told him the truth and warned him that, his affair is now up to Allah SWT. Shortly after this Allah SWT ordered that, Ka’b RA be socially boycotted meaning that no one is to speak to him. This at first did not affect Ka’b RA but eventually the lack of human contact began affecting him. During this punishment a messenger from the Ghassanid king visited Ka’b RA with a letter. The letter was an attempt by the Ghassanid king, to ask Ka’b RA to betray the Prophet SAW. Ka’b RA burnt the letter immediately and did not accept this offer. This punishment went on for 50 days until a messenger from the Prophet SAW came, informing him that he must send his wife back to her parents. This meant he would be separated from his spouse too but, they were still married. Ka’b RA obliged and 10 days later it was announced that, Allah SWT had revealed Ayah 118 of Surah At Tawbah which forgave Ka’b RA. Ka’b RA was very happy when this happened and he went to the Masjid to celebrate this with the Prophet SAW and the Sahabah RA. Ka’b RA upon meeting the Prophet SAW promised he would never lie again as part of his repentance. Ka’b RA honoured this promise and went blind towards the end of his life. He died during the reign of Muawiyah RA. - Why Surah At Tawbah has no Bismillah There are two views on why this is the case: 1. Uthman RA stated that the Sahabah RA, did not know if Surah Anfal and Surah At Tawbah were one surah or two. One of the reasons for this is because both Surah’s speak about warfare. This is why there was no Bismillah put between them. Due to this some early Islamic scholars believed that the Qur’an had 113 Surah’s since they counted Surah Anfal and Surah At Tawbah to be one Surah. However, this view is no longer held by anyone. 2. Ali RA was asked by his son why there is no Bismillah and he stated this is because the Surah starts with Allah SWT cutting ties with the polytheists. Thus it would not be befitting to put in the Bismillah. This second view is unanimously accepted amongst the Muslims. Fun Trivia fact: Surah Tawbah is the only Surah in the Qur’an, where Allah SWT is commanding Jihad in a very blunt and strict manner. Fun Trivia fact: Another name for the Battle of Tabuk is Jaish Al Usrah, which means the army of difficulty. The name is a reference to the struggle the Muslims went through to get to Tabuk. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW prophesised that, Tabuk would go from being a barren dessert, to a lush green land in the future. This came true and Tabuk is now one of the biggest cities in Northern Arabia. Fun Trivia fact: This battle also saw the Prophet SAW travel the longest he ever had whilst leading an army. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW stated that “Whatever Uthman RA does after this will not harm him”. This was because Uthman RA financed the most for the Battle of Tabuk. Fun Trivia fact: It was prior to the Battle of Tabuk that, Umar RA gave up trying to compete with Abu Bakr RA. This was because of how amazed he was by Abu Bakr’s RA Tawakul. Fun Trivia fact: The Battle of Tabuk was the only battle that was made Fardh upon all the Muslim men. Fun Trivia fact: Abu Haythama RA was the Sahabi who procrastinated in going on the Expedition of Tabuk. After the Prophet SAW departed with the army, he felt guilty and then by himself went from Medina to Tabuk, in order to join the expedition. The Prophet SAW was happy to see him. You also will see I have added “Fun Trivia facts” under each of my notes. These FTFs are information YQ said that was off topic or not necessary to include in my notes for the episode.
