Episode 17 Notes: Second Migration to Abyssinia After the Muslims of Abyssinia returned to Makkah. They began seeking new protection since, they had lost it all after they left. The Abyssinian Muslims stayed in Makkah for a short period of almost a month before, deciding to go back to Abyssinia. But, a lot of the Muslims who hadn’t previously immigrated, heard how life was better in Abyssinia. So, this time more than 80 Muslims left for Abyssinia. This was almost 30-50% of all the Muslims at the time. However, not all of the Muslims from the first migration left during the second migration. Some like Uthman ibn Affan RA remained. When such a big amount of people migrated to Abyssinia, the Quraysh sent a delegation to Abyssinia. The delegates visited each of Najashi’s viziers, in order to bribe them to agree with them, over the Muslims, when they meet with the Najashi. The Quraysh met the Najashi and gave him gifts and asked him to return the Muslims to them. Najashi requested the Muslims come and tell their side of the story before, he makes his decision. The Qurashi delegation prostrated before the Najashi out of custom but, the Muslims didn’t and this made the Najashi ask questions about Islam. This led to, Jaffar Ibn Talib RA giving an eloquent speech and reciting the introduction of Surah Maryam which, persuaded the Najashi into siding with the Muslims. Najashi told the Qurayshi delegation to leave. But, the delegation had told the Najashi to ask the Muslims about their position on Jesus. So, Jaffar RA told him the Islamic stance of Jesus AS. Najashi agreed with the Muslims stance on Jesus and then told the Qurayshi delegation to get out. The Muslims stayed in Abyssinia until late the 7th year of the Hijrah. Years later, the Najashi admitted his Islam to the Prophet SAW via a letter and Najashi later died. When he did, Jibreel AS told the Muhammad SAW of Najashi’s passing and the Prophet SAW led the only Janazah in his lifetime, without a body being present. The Prophet SAW only did this because the Najashi was a secret Muslim and no one In Abyssinia would do Janazah for him because they did not know of his Islam. Fun Trivia fact: Najashi is just a title and the real name of the King was Ashama. Fun Trivia fact: Abu Bakr RA due to the terms of the Quraysh, was the first one to build a public masjid in his house. He used to recite Qur’an very melodiously to the extent that the women and children would gather outside his house in amazement. Fun Trivia fact: Muharram is a sacred month to the extent that Aisha RA said the Prophet SAW never fasted so much, in any month that isn’t Ramadan, except Muharram. Muharram was the month when Musa AS was saved from Firaun and it’s the month when Nuh AS landed on Mount Judy. Also, it is the month when the events of Karbala took place. Fun Trivia fact: Fasting on 10th of Muharram forgives the minor sins of the previous year. Fasting on the 9th and 10th of Dhul Hijjah forgives the minor sins of both the previous and upcoming year. ========================================================== Disclaimer for my Notes of Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Series: Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, these are my notes on Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Seerah series. Please note: I HIGHLY recommend that you all watch YQ’s Seerah series, as I DON’T cover every single detail the Sheikh mentions. I made these notes primarily for myself but, decided my fellow brothers and sisters may benefit from them too. I no doubt will have made mistakes in my notes. All the good in these notes is from Allah SWT and all the mistakes are from myself. But, I was very meticulous and tried my best to make sure everything is accurate as the Sheikh mentions it. You also will see I have added “Fun Trivia facts” under each of my notes. These FTFs are information YQ said that was off topic or not necessary to include in my notes for the episode. But, they were still worth mentioning hence the inclusion as FTFs. FTFs aren’t always HAPPY pieces of information. Sometimes they are very sad trivia. I just want to say that FTF is the phrase I used for them all collectively when making the notes. One thing I wanted to do but am too lazy to do is, maybe someone could take the FTFs from under each “Episode” and make an Islamic reminder/information IG/TikTok account and post them daily or something. Could be a great form of Sadaqah Jaariyah. Please keep me in your Duas and ask Allah SWT to forgive all our sins during this blessed month and beyond! Ameen

Amazing series, so beneficial mashaAllah. Please research the number of people in Mecca. No more than a thousand people in Mecca? 2 thousand men joined the Prophet after the Fath before going to Hunain. That's just the battle-ready men, forget women, children, seniors, slaves, etc. What I remember reading in MM Azami hadeeth studies was that Mecca had 60,000 people and only 17 could read/write. SubhanALLAH! Made me laugh Alhamdulillah! 'Once upon a time, believe it or not, Politicians were smart people!' 🤣 Sadakta! You have spoken the truth! Oh Yasir Qadhi!
Here are the key takeaways from the video discussing the early Muslims’ migration to Abyssinia and the story of Najahshe: Main Points: 1. Context of Migration: • The early Muslims faced persecution in Mecca, leading some to migrate to Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia) in search of safety and freedom to practice their religion. 2. The Role of Najahshe: • Najah she, the ruler of Abyssinia, provided protection to the Muslim emigrants, allowing them to worship freely. His just nature is highlighted throughout the narrative. 3. Abu Bakr’s Story: • Abu Bakr initially attempted to migrate but was intercepted and protected by a tribesman. This reveals the complexities of tribal loyalty and protection in Meccan society. 4. Emigration Details: • The first migration involved approximately 17 Muslims, while the second migration saw the number increase to over 80 after hearing about the favorable conditions in Abyssinia. 5. Quraysh’s Efforts to Retrieve Muslims: • The Quraysh sent emissaries to Najah she to persuade him to return the Muslims. They offered bribes and manipulated religious sentiments to sway him. 6. The Muslims’ Response: • Jaffa ibn Abi Talib eloquently defended the Muslims’ beliefs when questioned by Najah she. He showcased their monotheism and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. 7. Najah she’s Decision: • Ultimately, Najah she rejected the Quraysh’s demands, recognizing the sincerity of the Muslims. He declared that he would not hand them over and expressed admiration for their faith. 8. Impact of Najah she’s Support: • The support of Najah she allowed the Muslims to live in peace for years in Abyssinia. His eventual recognition of Islam as a valid faith reflects the early Islamic community’s connections beyond Arabia. 9. Lessons on Justice and Faith: • The story emphasizes the importance of standing firm in one’s beliefs, using the systems available to fight oppression, and the significance of justice in leadership. 10. The Death of Najah she: • After Najah she’s death, the Prophet Muhammad performed a unique funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) for him, highlighting his respect and acknowledgment of Najah she’s contributions to Islam. Conclusion: • The narrative illustrates the trials faced by early Muslims, their resilience in the face of adversity, and the critical support they received from allies like Najah she. It serves as a reminder of the importance of justice, compassion, and the quest for religious freedom.

Assalaamu alaikum brother Yasir, Jazak Allah ta'ala khair for this very informative and well presented seerah of our beloved Prophet (saws). Just one thing slightly confusing and this is not to put you on the spot, it is just have more understanding. You say at 30 mins through the lecture that the population of Makkah would have at very most would have been 1,000. What I find confusing is that how id the Makkans muster a 1,000 strong army for Badr? Surely the population should have been say 3 to 4,000? May Allah ta'ala bless you and your family and all of us with good in this world and the hereafter - ameen. May Allah ta'ala give you a long, healthy good life so that we can benefit from the knowledge you are parting with - ameen. Wasalaam

Small correction, Uthman did not participate in Badr since his wife was ill and she was the daughter of Rasullalah and Rasullalah told him to look after her. The Quraysh fielded 1000 soldiers at short notice at badr and 3000 at Uhud. After Fatih Makkah approx 2000 soldiers joined the army of the prophet. A fighting force is about 20% of the total population, so an estimation of he population of makkah would be 10-15,000.

- Abu Bakr started for Abyssinia but returned with protection of his business friend Ibn Daggina on Condition he can't pray public. But Abu Bakr tricks by extending his house and oraying there, so Mushriks find it problematic and complain so Ibn Daggina forbids Abu Bakr and Abu Bakr in response withdraws his protection and become without protection. -Uthman ibn Ma'zoon, after returning from first migration to Abyssina, took protection of Walid ibn Mugira, later felt discomfort that he's muslim brothers are oppressed and he is safe, so he withdrew protection, on his way back announcing his withdrawal he goes to gathering of poet Labid and gets punched. -Abu Salama after returning from first migration to Abyssina, took protection of Abu Taleb, his uncle from mother's side, as he knows his uncle Abu Jahal won't give protection.But, Abu Jahal gets offended at this and argues with Abu Taleb, but Abu Lahab tells him to leave the matter feeling compassion for his brother Abu Taleb. - Delegates from Makkah come to and tells king Najjashi to hand over those who migrated the second time to Abyssina.So Najashi calls Jafar ibn Abu Taleb.

I'm quite ignorant so forgive me for my lack of understanding ... I'm slightly confused, so the Abyssinian ruler is secretly a muslim? But are you allowed to lie about your faith eg pretend to be a christian? As he was to his people? Can someone perhaps expand on this for me pls. Jzk.
@Qx14077 жыл бұрын
Adil Rashid he wasn't pretending to be Christian . As the sheikh explained he believed in a version of Christianity where Jesus is not divine which is close to Islam .. He had faith in Islam and as such he wrote on. A paper his beliefs and pointed to this when questioned by his ministers or opposers .. Same as Amar ibn yasir and Somiya he was tortured and finally said he believes in the pagan idols to escape torture .. He went to the prophet and told him what he said .. The prophet said so long as your iman is secure say as u want in that situation to escape torture ie during necessity to save your life .. So the najashi did not lie and pretend to be Christian .. Listen to the lecture agakn carefully from 50 m until end

Adil Rashid Asalaam Wa Alaikum, your question is great. Actually the Sheik has another video in this series( about dawah and being A Muslim in Secret vs. Private) but there are certain circumstances where you're allowed to be Muslim in private to protect you while you practice, but the king never pretended to be Christian( in the since of believing in the trinity) he was a Christian who was considered a believer because he believed Jesus the way Muslims do.

Rafic Dalati Wa alikum assalam. Prophet PBUH did not migrate to Abyssinia at all. only time he migrated was to Madinah when Allah SWT gave him permission. Like Abu Bakr, we should all be willing to both open part of our homes as a pray center of the area and enhance that area. It is good that you have shown how the lobbying and bribery common in so-called sacred and secular societies is not acceptable in Islam. The Abyssinian Negusa is an example for us all in suspending judgement till both sides speak and to be on the side of the innocents despite worldly gains. Ja`far was an example to follow in that we should use tact in communication and be willing to openly respectfully disagree. The Bible itself never has Jesus claim to be divine and teaches he renounced all current and former worshipers. We should remind Christians that every Muslim considers Jesus to literally be a messiah and Emanuel (both are types of prophet). It does make sense to only do funerals in absence for those who had no fitting funeral due to persecution or concealment.

@@yaqzy_sk what are u talking about? Supposedly he was 10 at Bi'tha and hijra to habasha came five yrs later so 15 yrs old. I know alot of people dont like Ali and try to make him look insignificant and take away stuff he was blessed with. For instant its known that prophet accapted Ali islam, so who are we to say that likely he has not reached puberty and therefore he is not the first muslim. Or indirectly saying he was just a 5 yrs old kid in these few important years leading to habasha
