Incredible mythology and one of the oldest, most interesting and curious
@The_Goof_4205 ай бұрын
Really I thought Egyptian mythology was the oldest in the world
@egyptomaniac64534 ай бұрын
@@The_Goof_420 weeeelll, there's a few Sumerian hyms and depictions that are at least contemporary, if not slightly older. And of course, there's a lot of far older religions and mythology, we just don't know about them because there are no written sources and you can only infer a limited amount of info from artifacts and buildings.
@SuperSabarinath25 күн бұрын
Sanatan Dharma is the oldest religion, not Egyptian mythology
@JumpingTomato20 күн бұрын
It's clear that in ancient Egypt, religion was not just something you could enjoy on Sunday. It was an integral part of their everyday life. It seems thar more than for example the Greek gods, the Egyptian gods needed to be pleased all the time to make sure all went well in the kingdom. So these cults were important and the fast amount of temples in Egypt also shows they took it seriously. Great video this, I learned something!

6:42 sooo, cats were mummified... Remember how you said in 6:10 that harming a cat could be severely punished? I am sorry to burst you bubble, but that is not quite the case. Those mummified cats from the big cat cemeteries were not beloved pets. They were offerings. Those mummies contain mostly juvenile cats with broken necks 😢 Currently, scientists assume that in the Late Period these cats were bred for the purpose of killing them and making them into votive offerings. (That being said, there are also depictions and burials of cats that were clearly pets and part of the family. The sarcophagus of a price's cat from the 18th dynasty is a striking example)
@WildMen44444 ай бұрын
There was a difference in the mind of the Egyptians between harming a cat just to harm them and sacrificing the cat to mummify them as an offering. The latter was seen as more respectable (especially since the cat is then dedicated to Bast).

13:41 Seshat is the daughter of Ma'at and Thoth? Thoth is a son of Hathor? Where did you find that information?? I really believe that parent and spouse relationships were not a consistent feature of Egyptian deities. Only some have it as part of their identity. Like, Seth very consistently gets the title "Son of Nut" and "Horus-son-of-Isis" is named like this to differentiate him from other forms of Horus. Ma'at is often called daughter of Ra. But I have never even once seen her addressed as wife of Thoth. And some deities don't seem to have parents or children at all. Like, I wouldn't know any family for Min or Hapi or Pakhet. Many gods also get family relations ascribed in some situations, but it's really not important to their overall character and mythology (for example, Anubis being the illegitimate child of Nephtys and Osiris is a pretty late story, I think.) Even the local triads with a male, female and child deity honoured in a certain city are not very consistent. In Thebes, Amun can be paired up with Mut or with Amaunet. And he floats between being Amun, Amun-Re and Amun- Min anyways. But I digress. Sorry. A source for Seshat being the daughter of Thoth and Ma'at would be much appreciated.

8:48 The epic battle between Horus and Seth? Come on guys - check the sources! At least read the Contendings! It wasn't a battle... it was a court case. The story is veritatable soap opera with plenty of side characters and weird plot twists. The hippos! The sulking Sun God! The crafty Isis making Seth argue against his own cause! The Salad Sauce!! So much wasted opportunity here.

It would be nice if you could show accurate portrayals of the ancient egyptian people. Even the eurocentrics say they were very dark skinned people. I get that your insecurities may not allow you to display them as their true African selves, but their skin was very dark. So in the interest of accuracy please do better.

@@WildMen4444 What else would posses a person to depict people much differently from what they looked like? It’s either an intent to spread disinformation to viewers, or some sort of insecurity. If I am wrong please correct me.
@SeeUinHistory5 ай бұрын
Well, since we do comics, accuracy isn't really the goal. Resemblance at best. And if you look over all the channel, you will see the artist have a style of art/coloring that is the same over different mythologies - egyptian, hindi, greek, japanese, etc.
@damedash32265 ай бұрын
@@SeeUinHistory I get that, but when you depicted Hermes along side Anubis, there isn’t any ambiguity about Hermes’ ethnic background (white european. Even though we don’t have any images of him, whereas we have plenty of ancient Egyptian images). All I’m suggesting is that your team of artists at least try to make the people of ancient Egypt “resemble” the way they portrayed themselves.
@WildMen44445 ай бұрын
@@damedash3226 We actually have several images of Hermes. Like a ton. Statues (both for temples and household shrines), vase paintings, frescoes, mosaics, etc. A ton of things. There was literally a statue of Hermes on every street corner in Ancient Greece. In fact, He appears so often in both visual and narrative mediums that it's been theorized that He's the most popular God in the whole religion
