You know, I can finally explain it: What you do best over other KZbinrs is actually show off the games of the era in meaningful way. The correct amount of captured footage, the right amount of silence so we can hear the games.

Loved this supercut. This helps me appreciate the Mega Drive/Genesis' initial market positioning with Sega's arcade ports, along with the thinking behind the Saturn's initial design. Altered Beast and Golden Axe are forever ingrained with my early days with the Genesis. I know I played Revenge of Death Adder in the arcade once or twice, but I didn't realize what an awesome looking game it was. What a unique look the System 32 games had!

Sega should have released all of their system 32 games on the Neo Geo in the mid 90s and had Sammy do the publishing and/or development, a console where sprites were embraced in a rising "polygon or bust" era
@VOAN11 ай бұрын
Sammy was a Pachinko machine company is the reason why. Also I doubt the NeoGeo would be able to run all Sega System 32 games as it hardly was able to handle polygon games. The NeoGeo Hyper 64 maybe but the install base for that was very small. Also a few of the Sega System 32 games which support more than 2 players won't be possible as the NeoGeo couldn't support more than 2-players.
@starstarstar464311 ай бұрын
@@VOAN Sammy published viewpoint on the neo geo in 1992 and sega genesis in 1994, which is why I specifically brought up Sammy (SegaSammy), and yeah it would be graphical scale backs but not many, and still would be worthy ports..and the system 32 didn't have polygon games, just sprite pixel games
@MaxAbramson36 ай бұрын
Most of these System 24 and 32 games would've worked just fine on the Sega CD. It still chaps my hide that SEGA demanded $300 for what they'd been promosing since 1987--the arcade experience at home--but we STILL didn't have it by 1994 even though the hardware was in front of us. That--more than any other single issue--is what killed SEGA for millions of game enthusiasts!

Some good stuff here. On the bright side at least the arcade Shinobi and Alien Syndrome got an emulated home release on the ps3/360 and acquivalent Megadrive/Genesis collections (later ones dropped them) along with a few other arcade ports like Tip Top and Altered Beast! Didnt know about Aurail, looks mint. Maybe if we are lucky an indie dev might attempt a Megadrive port one day!

Most of these early arcade games that has a home version looks and plays more similar to the Arcades on the SMS
@DawezyDRK11 ай бұрын
Gotta say the majority of titles on display here I only ever saw the SMS or Mega Drive versions, since the arcade was so expensive for a lil kid with no money back in the 80s.. and what money I did get I saved, got the carts over time instead. Bit of a mind blown moment here seeing the difference compared to the ports.. EDIT: Sega really had no mercy for the epileptics out there (me included) with all the regular flashes huh, bit of a struggle sometimes to watch.

I did enjoy Sega MVP Baseball, but it's a good example of just how impressive SNK's Neo•Geo games were for their time. Take MVP, from 1989, and compare it to Baseball Stars Professional, on the Neo•Geo, released only a year later. Not only was it leagues ahead of most arcade games of its time, in terms of huge animated players, highly detailed face pics for every player, awesome stereo music, and tons of CD quality digitized speech, but getting games like that for a home system (in 1990) was simply amazing. Though it did take away a little of my hype for the SNES. :) MERRY CHRISTMAS, guys!

'Fantasy Zone II' on the Master System is a Top 3 of all time favorite of mine. It's better than the original in every way IMO. The stages look better. The songs are awesome. The multiple zones in each stage is great. The story is better and ending is bittersweet, there are bills in addition to just coins (which float down like actual paper)... It's just such an awesome sequel.
@TurboXray11 ай бұрын
the first versions of system-16 arcade boards might have had a lot of colors, but you ONLY had 7 colors per tile 8x8. That's pretty low! It might have a lot of palettes, but you're limited to just 7 colors per tile... that's what gives the games a unique look. Sprites had more colors tho (14 colors per hardware sprite). IIRC, I think later model rev B boards boosted this limit to 15 colors per tile (same as the Genesis).
@Adamtendo_player_111 ай бұрын
Sega should have gone the Neo Geo way with the system 16, 18 and 32 with the Mega Drive being the more affordable option.
@TurboXray11 ай бұрын
@@Adamtendo_player_1 It's difficult to know what Sega's expectations where back them. Remember, before the MD took off in North America and Europe, Sega wasn't that successful as Nintendo in the market (at the time of the MD development). It's known what they expected for life expectancy for the system - because that probably would have played more into it's capabilities if they had thought it was going to last longer and go head to head with newer systems. Highsight is always 20/20. They could have made the full 12bit color palette available to the MD (the DACs are there). NEC could have made the full 32k color palette available too (the DACs are also there for it). Lot's of things they could have done.

It's especially strange that Sega didn't boost their Saturn games roster by converting the System 32 titles, given that we now know they were making a loss on every Saturn console, so needed a lot more software sales to break even. Goldenaxe is the really obvious omission, but I think a lot of the others would have worked, perhaps as 'Sega Sports' compilation titles.
