What exactly was the memory controller bug? I can't find anything about it. But Viurtua does "sort of" work with the Genesis 3, all that happened was that Virtua Racing was the only game in the entire library that used four extra pins on the cartridge slot and Majesco decided to save the fraction of a penny on each unit, by not soldering them. So it will work if you solder them yourself.
@Alanzice11 жыл бұрын
I found this: "One of the 68000's instructions (68000 is the Genesis processor), TAS, is intended for semaphore communication in multiprocessor machines and locks the 68000 bus during memory access. The Sega hardware did not support this unusual bus cycle and ignored the write-back phase. Two games, Gargoyles from Buena Vista Interactive, and Ex-Mutants from Sega make use of the TAS instructions and expect it not to write to memory. As a result, these games work on original Sega machines but not the Majesco Genesis 3, which has correct support for TAS." And this: "There was also a bug fix with the memory controller, this bug was exploited for certain effects on games such as Disney’s Gargoyles and as such these games are also unplayable on a Genesis 3."
@SinisterSally11 жыл бұрын
The lack solder is also the reason why game genie won't work (and a wire on some model 3s). If you do the fix you can use your game genie to negate the exploit in Gargoyles so it will run on a Genesis 3. The code is: HEKT-AYX6 HELT-AYX0 HH2A-AYYC HHZT-CYTL

Nicksolo85 The Genesis (and Master Systems) being made in Brazil doesn't use the original hardware, has no cartdrige slot (only a sd card), and it's emulation based, as far as I know (as you can load roms through a sd card). Calling those things " Genesis" is kind of a stretch.

There is another way to identify Majesco re-release games. The Majesco re-release games front labels did not have gloss on their front labels (they look cheap and almost pirate-like, but are not blurry or anything), and on SNES games the precautions on the back are molded directly into the plastic and are not a printed label. The plastic on the SNES carts also is lighter and feels cheaper than the standard issue carts. At least all of the SNES and Genesis games I have from them have been like this.

The original MegaDrive/Genesis had stereo sound.
@paspax8 жыл бұрын
+Valet2 A quote from the video.. "In 1993 SEGA released the Genesis model 2. It was lighter, had stereo sound & is the most common version of the system." This statement seems, IMHO, to imply that the model one version did not have stereo sound. It's misleading & should have included more information about the changes to the model 2. For example .. ...", it had stereo sound incorporated into a the AV out socket... etc". Indeed many people thought the model one didn't have stereo as the DIN/AV out socket had mono only regardless of whether it was set up using the RF or AV cables. The AV cable for the model one system had two RCA connectors. Yellow for composite video & white for mono sound. There was stereo from the headphone jack. We who are in the know understand this. My comment does not in any way imply, suggest or state that the model 2 Genesis/Mega Drive did not have stereo sound. It was a correction of the misleading content contained in the video.

The headphone jack didn't count, as it couldn't be loud or anything. And to get true stereo you could run to a home entertainment system, you needed a Sega CD. Saying the model 1 had stereo sound is misleading.

IF you're a die hard fan and or collector yes this is a must have just for the fact it adds to the collection. The sum of the games it plays is small but some are cool and you know looks like a neat little system. I never used it as a kid I was into the oG SEGA Genesis but didn't with the followup systems until DreamCast. LOVE that system...

You are better off skipping the genesis 3 due to game compatibility. It seems like a clone console before they became popular.

I have a Model 3 that I picked up several years back for about $30. I find it to be convenient to hook up when compared with my Model 1, to which I have a Sega CD and 32X attached. Back in 2012, I played through Phantasy Star IV on my Model 3 in a spatially challenged apartment and that experience alone justified the price of the purchase for the console.

I got one after struggling to play games on the Genesis emulators like the AtGames and even the Hyperkin ones. They run so slowly for some reason on those emulators. Also, some games simply won't even work on them. I looked into getting an original Genesis and was turned off by the high price and huge size of it. So, I got a Gen 3. I'm fine with it not working with the add-on hardware as I wasn't all that impressed by those things and their games even back in the day when I was playing games on my roommate's Gen 1 in college. All I want to play on it are the classic games like the Sonic games, Golden Axe games, Columns, Gauntlet 4 etc. Gauntlet 4 was the one that was really a 'system seller' for me as it played at a slow crawl on the emulators and finally convinced me that I needed an original console. I really like the Gen 3 so far. I've not run into problems with games being incompatible with it, but that's partly because the clerks at my local game store where I got the Gen 3 know that I have one and would tell me if I was considering a game that wouldn't work on it. It's a great store.

I have a genesis 3, i bought it around 2013, it was being sold in a mall, it was with other game things like ps2 controllers. The box was really different to the one in the video, it was blue and had a weird sonic instead of the 3d blast sonic and the console doesn't say "Genesis 3" on the top. it came with two six button controllers and a pirate 4 in 1 cartdrige wich had the Moonwalker game in it and me at the time being a HARDCORE Michael Jackson fan, i bought the system. Also something that is pretty cool is that it has a NTSC and PAL switch under the console. It still works... I mean is just a few years old.

I had the Mark I. I ran it through my 4 channel surround sound system. The only way I could do it was with a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter in the headphone jack. But, it worked perfectly. So the Mark I _did_ have stereo sound, but you had to tap into the headphone jack to use it.

Would've been cool if they had put the 32X (like they had thought of doing a couple years earlier with the Neptune) into it so those games could be played thru this. Would've made it so much more tidy as far as not having so many cords to monkey with

At least it isn't made by AtGames, and thus (presumably) doesn't have the characteristic AtGames "drunk music/generally dodgy sound", so there's that.

The department store I used to work at (up to 2005) got a bunch of these Genny 3s in for Christmas 1999 and sold them for 19.99 USD (and a number of the games for 12.99 USD). They sold like hotcakes, and we'd get them in at least a couple more times over the course of a few months. The last time I remember was around Black Friday 2000, where they were a doorbuster for 14.99 USD and the games 9.99 USD. I still have a 6-in-1 game collection in the box that Majesco sold for it.

I remember using the headphone jack a lot on the model 1. It helped me not get caught for not sleeping for school. My mom never knew why I was always tired. I also used it when I was at my grandparents house because the ''RING'' sound got on their nerves. This was very handy and gave me the best experience in my childhood. :')

My dad is an avid yard seller, and back in the 2000s he come home and said "Son tell me what kind of Nintendo this is" I said "It's definitely not a Nintendo, it's Sega and I never seen this kind" so we looked it up. I liked the model 3 for it's space saving, travel size etc.

The fact that this thing can play USA games as well as region free Japanese games is a huge win in my book. I almost regret buying a Japanese Mega Drive when I could have just gotten this. 😂

Once simply modified, this will output stereo sound and work with the game genie, virtual racing game, gargoyles, and the power base converter, and even the 32X . Only true thing it wont work with is the Sega CD and honestly who really cared much about that or the 32X anyways! The Genesis itself was the best Sega made so was the Game Gear.
