It's great!!! I can't believe how fast I got it. Just one week! Yeps: 1. It included the 18-in-1 cart, which is always a good time. Though that's a Japanese cart, not fitting into my real Genesis...but who needs to use that when I've got the Retroad HD Genesis, eh?! 2. The wireless controllers are cheap and light of course, we know that, but they work flawlessly! Once I got a screwdriver and got the back off, two AAAs later and it's a great experience. The D-pad feels even better on these than on a real Genesis controller; it rolls more smoothly. The P2 controller is fine too; me and my friend David can race along those Sonic 2 VS tracks once more :) 3. Even though the edge connectors grip hard, and you have to insert AND remove a game carefully, I adjusted to doing it so there's no problem. I can confidently insert and remove any game without fear. It might as well not even be an existing issue. 4. The sound is pretty good. The PSG channel plays a bit louder than it should, but not alarmingly, and my TV's equalizer easily fixed the "flat" sound of the audio. Nopes: 5. The headphone jack outputs modest volume at best for external speakers; for headphones it's loud enough, but only just, at top volume. When I used a 3.5mm to RCA audio port for the TV to see if it would slightly enhance the sound, I had to turn my TV up to max volume and could barely hear anything still. This was with the headphone jack volume slider at the top too. 6. The HDMI, while certainly better than composite, is only somewhat better for my TV. It might just be the TV itself, but the quality isn't as crystal clear as I'd hoped. It doesn't help that, while on HDMI, my TV can't go to 4:3 mode. But now I'm using the composite ports on my EDTV, and it's even better there (like with the audio as well) and the video is impressive considering composite cables. 7. The RCA jacks are pulled into the unit, not sticking out; this is an advantage for storage sometimes, but it prevents me from using most composite cables. Only the kinds that have those little "fins" sticking out very far can be used. Good thing a nice long set of these was included. Bonus: I didn't know there were over 40 built-in games on this darn thing!!! I don't even need my Sonic Classics cart to play Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with David XD

I really just don't understand why these reproduction and clone console makers always get the sound wrong for the Sega Genesis. Like, what is so wrong with the audio chips now compared to what Sega used in the 90s for this machine? All this leads me to believe is that complacency is almost breeding a *regression* in audio quality, Rather than advancing it.

I would say no way in hell with the poor sound quality, and I also hate when people do stuff like that killing good original hardware, I would rather just see someone do a Stereo composite mod to an original Genesis/Mega Drive then what you suggested. If you want HDMI with proper sound then just emulate on a Homebrewed Wii with a $5 Wii to HDMI adapter, as there is little lag, and it looks good on a good quality HDTV with low input lag in 480p mode like some older 1080p Samsung displays can do even without gamemode.

@RetroSho7 жыл бұрын
I have this set up in my home. Unfortunately, not everyone has the means of being able to shell out 300~400$ for the XRGB-mini, which is why these clone makers continue to have a foothold in the retro market with their sub-par products.
@guspaz7 жыл бұрын
The OSSC will do a better job for around $150 less than the Framemeister, but it's still a lot more money than a casual user is going to spend, and the Genesis is somewhat notorious for jailbars, meaning even more money (or time/effort) is required to get clean video out of it.
@CommodoreFan647 жыл бұрын
Or if you are purist like myself you keep a good quality 4:3 CRT next to your HDTV for your retro consoles, and avoid all the up scaling issues, and cost. I personally have a 27in Panasonic CRT from the early 00's(salvaged from my parents who bought it in late 02)that has component inputs, a curved screen, stereo outputs(have hooked into my 5.1 surround sound setup), and very low response times, and I also use a component switch box with it with zero issues that I found for $3 brand new in the box at a local GoodWill. So for me much better then spending $300 - $400 on an upscaling box that might not fix all the issues of running a retro on a newer HDTV setup. Edit: and like +Sho said not everyone has the cash to spend on these expensive upscalers(myself personally), or for some people the technical know how to make them work proper even if they do have the cash, or they just don't want to go threw with all the hassle of upscaling, etc.. so sadly these cheaply made clones keep getting pumped out because of these reasons.
@guspaz7 жыл бұрын
Why not both? All my retro consoles go into a gscartsw-lite, which has two outputs, one going to a Sony PVM CRT, the other going to an OSSC that is connected to my home theatre.
@atomicskull64057 жыл бұрын
What would be cool is if someone made a mod board that connects to the raw pixel output pins on the Genesis VDP and outputs that over HDMI. You would need to snoop the VDPs internal color RAM though. The pixel buss was intended for external color RAM to expand the VDPs color pallets but Sega ended up leaving them unconnected to anything on the board for whatever reason. The System C2 arcade board which used the Genesis VDP did use an external color RAM and had something like eight 16 color pallets and 32000 available colors and as well it also used a second 64K bank of VRAM (which the VDP also supports but like with the pixel buss the pins were left unconnected to anything on the Genesis motherboard)

Does it work with Sega CD, 32X and Power Base Converter
@CommodoreFan647 жыл бұрын
he said no in the video because it lacks the expansion port for the SEGA CD, and the 32X needs a special passthrew cable to get a complete video signal too, and from the Genesis which handles some of the 2D back grounds in some games like Virtua Fighter 32X and this can be seen if you use a 32X with out all the cable properly plugged in on a model 1 or model 2 Genesis/Mega drive when you start a round it will only render the floor, and background to your display. and far as a power base converter it might work, but it looks like it could block some of the ports on the back of this clone, but the power base mini might work much better if the clone even has the hardware on the SOC to support master system games to start with. Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps.

Frankly I think it's pointless, especially if they bring it out in Europe. I recently bought a mega drive for £15 in the UK (model 1), and you can buy a SCART plug supported by all TVs for a few quid. It is a very good quality output and because of the low resolution of the megadrive's games anyway, HDMI is IMO pointless.

Reviewing the website as a whole would be difficult because AliExpress doesn't actually manufacture the things they sell. The site is basically an Amazon/eBay clone that's hosted in China and takes full advantage of the country's disregard for international patent and copyright laws. Since basically any bootlegger can sell things on there, it's pretty much a gamble in terms of product quality any time you buy. I've only ordered a few things from there, and luckily they've all worked as described, but I've heard some stories from people who weren't so lucky. So basically your milage may vary
