Nice job great work not sure why the usb c is for only charging? would be nice to run a soft mod or side load some roms or games without the carts.

Thanks! :D That would be nice lol think the way to get something close to that idea to embed a flash cart with firmware that lets you access it via USB C and have it handle PD as well. At least we can get cleaner, more reliable power from USB C rather than the OEM and third party bricks.

Is it necessary to change capacitors on brand new console?

Good question! Brand new - naw; you're good to go. If it's a used console and it's less than 20 yrs old, then it's still good unless there are problems. I'd be surprised if fresh caps from the factory on a new console would be bad. Aluminum smd and radial liquid electrolytic caps do, and will, dry out over their lifetime so it's good maintenance to do for the older stuff.

good question. I did this as part of the refurb process following up it's cleaning and testing in prior vids. liquid caps dry out and will require replacing in their lifetime. ones on the genesis are about 30yrs old so while some may test okay, it's better to replace them to extend the service life of the console at least another 20 yrs - much much longer if ya use class 1 solid caps. Doing the USB-C mod makes it so ya don't need another useless brick in the house and have a more reliable means to power the unit.
