Crafting a video into perfection is rewarding, but not having to do take after take after take must be... blissful. As for the Genesis Mini - That scaling you showed is... wince-worthy at times. IMHO, the top advantages of mini consoles are: 1. Great for affordably playing retro games for a system one may no longer own. Super stoked for the TurboGrafx Mini. I never owned one, and it is a treasure trove of lesser known platformers, shooters, and RPGs. 2. Mini consoles are excellent for gaming while traveling. 3. They are fantastic for playing games which originally had a battery back-up in the cartridge - being that most of those internal batteries have long since died. Sooo great to play retro RPGs such as Link to the Past, Final Fantasy III (aka VI), and Phantasy Star IV with the ability to save at any moment to system memory. BUT, mini consoles NEED to evolve and include features such as a functional cartridge slot (would be a phenomenal capability for those of us with big game collections) and/or the ability to officially download MORE games from an online eshop, Virtual Console-style.

I like this format for more "small fry" releases, such as this. You guys research and testing is a VERY appreciated tool for me as a retro game collector, please keep up the great content!

[Try4ce] Glad to hear it, that's exactly what we'd like to accomplish with this format - cover topics that we are interested in, but can't justify spending the time on a scripted video for. Definitely a missed opportunity. What they need to do is re-release the Genesis/Mega Drive, CD, 32X combo in a new compact form factor, and release it with a collection CD. Then, establish a manufacturing and distribution system for developers, and new game development systems, especially for the CD 32X combo, we never got to see what that combo really had to offer. I think this would be a huge success because of a new licensing opportunity for Sega, and because of the revitalization of and demonstrated interest in retro gaming.

INPUT LAG feeling on "Mega Man: The Wily Wars" is actually NOT real Hardware input lag. That lag/delay/short pause is how it's programmed/designed in the game when you begin to move forward or back or change direction. I know this because I have tried it on original Mega Drive with real cartridge on CRT still has same issue. You can google about it if you don't believe me. Jumping and shooting is totally fine and overall it doesn't really effect the game play.

Anyone else extremely disappointed with the selection of games here? When I think "Mega Drive", I don't think Tetris and Virtua Fighter 2. I think the original Streets of Rage, Ecco 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Aladdin, Pitfall, Rocket Knight Adventures, Vectorman... At least everything present on the Mega Drive Classics collection on Steam should be included here, SEGA really has no excuse to not included those, since they own them. If they added everything that is on steam and other other iconic games like the ones I mentioned, I would have payed double the price to get my hands on that! As it is right now, I doubt I'll ever pick it up (maybe if I ever see it heavily discounted somewhere). It just feels too incomplete! When they announced the Illusion games, it gave me a bit of hope that the Mega Drive was going to be the first mini console done right but now I feel that hope was misplaced.

[Try4ce] I think the lineup is one of the strongest aspects of it, actually. Contra Hard Corps, Castlevania Bloodlines, and Alisia Dragoon are among my favorite games on the system, but ones that are not often republished. [Try4ce] Well, even though we usually read scripts, they are still our own scripts. I think there's a misconception some people have that reading a script means you didn't write it. It simply means that we are just more comfortable with scripts, plus it lets us be sure we get across all the information that we want to without wasting time thinking. As for the console, even though I still have my original Genesis now hooked up to a HD TV via the Framemeister, I’m still getting the Genesis Mini because it offers two brand new games as well as two new games to America of the Genesis. I want to support Sega and M2’s excellent work and let the companies know I like this kind of product. I’ll probably stick with my original Genesis more often than not, but see myself giving this Mini plenty of play time!

The "casual/conversational" style is ok, but falls a bit flat since you guys aren't in the same room talking to each other, or even really handling the system at the same time. Right now it's got like, the words of a conversation, but the video (both the talking heads and the shots of the system and games) doesn't match up to that style.

[Try4ce] It's definitely an experiment, a first attempt at something like this. I do get what you mean that it doesn't totally feel like a natural conversation because it's edited quite a lot, obviously. Of course we can't be in the same room most of the time for logistical reasons, but being separate also made it easier to edit! Anyway, this is just the first crack at a video like this, so feedback is appreciated! :)

Looking at your previous videos. You guys may have over-hyped M2. Thanks to this video, I'm going to cancel my Genesis Mini and wait for a price drop.

[Try4ce] M2 historically has done incredible work, mostly because of their special touches in adding new features. This doesn't really seem to have the signature M2 flair, which may or may not be their fault. It's still a decent device, but I wouldn't have realized it was M2 if we hadn't been told it was.

Now that it's out, a couple comments. The CRT filter may or may not work for you depending on your display. On mine it gives you that uneven effect when the scale factor's not even that Try talked about in some other videos. -- I tried it out on a 1080p Acer computer monitor and the scanlines worked a lot better. With the filter off, no (or very few) shimmering pixels. A couple adjustments to the TV and good to go. The audio in the emulator seems to have the "high pass filter" effect on it, and it sounds close to the original revision of the original hardware. As for the game selection, I've been collecting Genesis stuff for the whole 30 years it's been out, and honestly I've never played half the games on this and don't have them in my collection. I might track down real copies of one or two later... but that would cost me more than the Mini did. So, pretty good for the price. It's like you paid $50 for the hardware and then 50 cents a game. It can't hurt to get one, you'll probably enjoy it.

Sounds more like almost all the youtuber that got the Sega Genesis Mini try to sell and promote it, on this one i listen on the Game Sack, he sounds most honest. for me its not worth $79

Sad to see m2 screw up the scaling again. The Castlevania collection has the same problems, esp with bloodlines on the PC version of the collection. The audio emulation sounded fine to me. Sounds more like they emulated it without the downsides of how the signal is routed on the original hardware pcbs and without having to go through a dac. (And there are even hardware mods for the MD to bypass the poor quality of the original circuits) I don't think you could ever get MD audio correct because the output varies so much by revision and how you get it out.

[Try4ce] For the most part, that's the idea, I think! We have gone back and forth on whether the Genesis Mini will need a full episode. People might prefer us to spend that time on a new subject instead.

@SonicNights Basically ice cap was based off an unreleased song that wasn't released until 2010-2011 or so. Because of this, they can't rerelease the game anymore, but any ports that already exist are obviously fair game. So steam is likely the only place you will be able to buy sonic 3 for the rest of time.

Yeah that's the only reason I want one. Got a SNES classic for that reason and that was so easy to do. Tried a raspberry pi with retro pi and it's just got way too many issues for me to bother using it anymore.

If you want a system to run most emulators, just get a Rasberry Pi.
@duffman185 жыл бұрын
@@dred05m61 I've got one. There's tons of issues with it. It's just not good enough. I think I'd rather get a chrome book or something than use that any more. I got a Vita after I got the pi and that's significantly better. Though still, nothing yet has come close to android emulators. They've got the perfect level of quality of life features and accuracy, and ease of use with things like linking Bluetooth gamepads. And there's an android emulator for literally every console, and even every computer, with Dos box for android, amiga, zx spectrum, etc Maybe every so often I'll go back and update it to a new version of retro pie to see if they've fixed the problems but for now it's just a pain in the ass

duffman18 Android is running on ARM hardware, which is great for low power. Don‘t know what the CPU is for the Sega Megadrive, but if it has the CPU like the SNES-mini: ARM Cortex-A7 emulation should run smooth.

@@dred05m61 you're missing the point. I can play all these on an emulator now on my PC and numerous other devices. It's the appeal of having these classic systems on display with replica controllers. I saw the Japanese reveal show of the final 12 games. For Darius, they pretty much straight up did a new port and it was 32 megabits, which if you talk in terms of the 90s talk, was HUGE. Even Tetris, which was a re-development, being a modest puzzle game clocked in at 4 megabits, which is twice as big as the biggest puzzle games back then.

The 3 button is more appropriate? Sorry dude that makes ZERO sense. Even if ONLY ONE GAME needed a 6 button... then the 6 button is the most appropriate because YOU COULD THEN PLAY ALL THE GAMES....

I really enjoy on how you guys dig into the nerdy retro stuff. But this new format is like watching a watered down PG rated sequel of your favorite 80's R rated action flick. For some reason "Conan the destroyer" comes to mind. Anyway, this little emulation box sounds like it's decent enough, I can get past the audio lag but damn, why ship 6 button games like SFII and Eternal Champions? Even casual players are going to be bummed when they realize they have to press start to switch moves in SFII. I'm happy to see a better plug in play for the Genesis, it just seems like somebody wants to sell two more controllers. Your videos are top notch as always, thanks
