80s' nightcore
@PaveMentman6 жыл бұрын
"Nightcore" is quite fitting term, since that's what this "Genesis"-version in comparison to original arcade and PC-engine-soundtracks. For a comparison, I (finally) made a PAL-edit of this soundtrack: www.mediafire.com/file/4iid5br1tg5ag2w/SEGA+Mega+Drive+Music+Truxton+-+Full+Original+Soundtrack+OST+PAL.mp3 Here is to hope someone eventually uploads a real-recording of this soundtrack on a real (PAL-) Mega Drive (even if I am able to make a almost 1-to-1-edits from NTSC-recordings without too much of hassle).
@Oysterblade844 жыл бұрын
@@PaveMentman And that person someday is going to have to be me as I am pratically the only uploader on the entire internet that uploads from original hardware in PAL 50Hz and the best hope you can ever wish for. But how the hell am I supposed to record the music when this game doesn't have a sound test? That's what makes it extremely difficult, I don't personally have the resources available to me to extract and dissect the music from the ROM as DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL has. I would love to do this ost for my small fanbase in 50Hz but I don't have the resources or the knowledge to do it as Dustin has. Dustin is the best as far as quantity is concerned and until I figure out a way to get the music from the game Dustin is going to remain our lord and saviour of Mega Drive/Genesis osts.
@PaveMentman4 жыл бұрын
--- @@Oysterblade84 Ah, so this (original Japanese Mega Drive-)port was so hasty / "last minute"-developed that there wasn't even any sort of "debug"-mode included (or at least one with a sound-test-section)? Which is kind unfortunate since this is Toaplan we're talking of; and as far as I can remember, they usually did include the "whole package" with their games (not to mention that for example "Zero Wing" was occasionally considered to be superior to / "updated" Arcade-version, at least soundtrack-wise). ---
@Oysterblade844 жыл бұрын
@@PaveMentman The best I can hope to achieve is by recording the ost as I play through the game, I have a GG invincibility cheat where I can breeze through the game not taking any damage but i'd still have to manuever out of the way of all the enemies to avoid sound effects (that's what is extremely hard) you have enemies coming at you from all angles and even the bottom of the screen. I'm going to look around and see if I can find some alternative solutions because as you said, this ost is amazing! Yeah it's quite strange that this early Toaplan shooter didn't get a sound test considering all the others did but i'm not so sure this port for the Mega Drive was developed by Toaplan themselves, the title screen says ''Toaplan 1988'' and ''SEGA 1989'' which means maybe it was a reprogrammed port done by Sega themselves which would stand to reason as most early titles were made by Sega only as third party support didn't really come into the console's lifespan until early 1991.

How does the megaamp mod sound compared to the model 1? :) Is it really as good?
@madjoker989 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Mattes Hmmm... First I've heard of this mod. I'm of the opinion that, yes, it does take away a lot of the distortion and warmth. That's a bad thing in my book. I have a model 1 Genesis and a great pair of headphones... Between the music from this and FireShark it puts me into a state of bliss like nothing else, and I own hundreds of games across multiple consoles. Love the sound of Genesis the most! Interestingly enough I rarely played it as a kid as I never owned one until my late 20s. So, at least I know my love isn't built on nostalgia alone. Nice Post!
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL9 жыл бұрын
+Craft XIII I was thinking about changing the mod up with a more period-correct op-amp (an LM358) that would get back some of that "good" distortion. An LM358 equivalent is what a Model 1 uses for the rear output. The first time I built the mod, I did it with that because it was what I had on hand. I've found that the difference between the 3438 and the 2612 isn't as great as one would think, unless you're comparing ladder distortion--which is much more subtle than the distortion generated by the amplification. The op-amp is really the heart of the sound, and the Model 1 headphone amp is different still. The only reason I don't do this is I feel a lot my viewers might not like the downgrade, and I don't have the internet bandwidth or time to upload two different versions of a soundtrack :) I will agree that you don't want it TOO perfect. I really don't like the sound of an unfiltered CCAM for instance. That feels almost like a downgrade to a Genesis to me and a really messy circuit besides.
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL9 жыл бұрын
***** If you're satisfied with it, don't worry about it. "Better" is subjective, some people prefer that CCAM sound, I just find it a little flat is all. It's not objectively worse or anything. The CCAM on the model 2 is still way, way better than the original circuitry so my criticisms are really just nitpicking. I'm a picky person if I'm doing something myself--I spent hours messing around just trying to find the cleanest +5V I could find on the Genesis board to power the Mega Amp. I just like the Mega Amp on a technical level because it's actually a simpler circuit than what is designed into the Model 2 and still sounds much better. As far as s-video my Model 2's got the MB3514 encoder so the s-video mod on it was absolutely trivial. The results are so good I wish I had some more of them, I'd be modding them and selling them off! I would say it's pretty close to RGB (not quite, there is still a tiny, tiny color fringe on certain hues) but it still looks just about flawless on my 32 inch CRT.
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL9 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand. I had a friend with a big rear-projection and even though you can't quite get it as sharp, the size kind of makes up for that. Of course, if you want a big CRT these days it usually only costs the price of being willing to haul it off (that's how I got mine).
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL9 жыл бұрын
Nice. I had the option of picking up a 1080i CRT but it was 16:9 and I planned to use a CRT for retrogaming, so 4:3 made more sense. It was the first time I had ever seen one, and the last time I have seen a tube HDTV since. I ended up getting a Wega FD Trinitron instead. It is not the best CRT I have ever seen but it has near perfect convergence and great linearity for a tube so big.

In case you (all) are interested in, here is a PAL-edit of this same soundtrack ("emulated" via this "video"): www.mediafire.com/file/4iid5br1tg5ag2w/SEGA+Mega+Drive+Music+Truxton+-+Full+Original+Soundtrack+OST+PAL.mp3 (( I only noticed this convo-chain after i had already replied to that another post, so hence the "double-post". )) ((( Also, I cannot 100% confirm my PAL-edit reflects the PAL-Mega-Drive-version of "Truxton" identically since 1. I personally have never gotten past take-off-stage 1 / "Far Away" whenever I was able to play the game the few times during early 1990 (really rare game here in Finland in comparison to many other tittles) 2. There is pretty much zero PAL-footage of this game online. ))) ---
